@bilbaobizkaia All Things Must Pass is better than any Queen album, Imagine is better than any Queen album except Queen II, Plastic Ono band is as well but apparently "better" means "more advanced and complex" whereas Plastic Ono Band is raw, stripped and emotional rather than bombastic and camp. Sheer style is great (Queen II is one of my favourite albums), but it isn't everything.

Relatively speaking (in the scope of music or even rock), they were very similar bands. Fact is, the Beatles outsold Queen and are more critically acclaimed. Rare to see May or Mercury above Lennon or McCartney in "best songwriter" lists.

When you’re five or six years old, ‘Yellow Submarine’, ‘When I’m Sixty Four’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’ and the like are fantastic songs. In pretty much the same way as ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’ is fantastic poetry.
The fact is, though, that The Beatles novelty songs are, frankly, embarrassing. They’re generally awful music hall pastiche with – in far too many cases – the tone deaf Ringo singing.

@bilbaobizkaia All Things Must Pass is better than any Queen album, Imagine is better than any Queen album except Queen II, Plastic Ono band is as well but apparently "better" means "more advanced and complex" whereas Plastic Ono Band is raw, stripped and emotional rather than bombastic and camp. Sheer style is great (Queen II is one of my favourite albums), but it isn't everything.

@bilbaobizkaia WMGGW is very complex, so many instruments layered over each other. Tomorrow Never Knows has loads of tape loops and backwards sections. Another "complex" song is Happiness Is A Warm Gun which inspired Bohemian Rhapsody.
Relatively speaking (in the scope of music or even rock), they were very similar bands. Fact is, the Beatles outsold Queen and are more critically acclaimed. Rare to see May or Mercury above Lennon or McCartney in "best songwriter" lists.

Bohemian Rhapsody was largely Freddie's composition when he was nearly asleep but the repeated changes came from Happiness Is A Warm Gun, I think there's a video of Freddie or Brian saying so.

Queen wrote songs like I'm In Love With My Car, Let Me Entertain You, Don't Try Suicide... the Beatles had special songs like Across The Universe, Strawverry Fields, Blackbird, Queen had special songs like The Prophet's Song, both had great albums (the Beatles moreso).

A large percentage of the arrangements and innovative instrumentation was down to their producer, George Martin.
Strip away a lot of that stuff and many of the songs don’t stand up anywhere near as well as the best of Queen.

@LeonEyedass no they didn't, the Beatles only last a decate, two years later Queen was born, Freddie died in 1991 and they still play, not as the y used to play, but they are. Perhaps that's reason John Lennon or the Beatles never cover Queen. I like both of them, more Queen, but the song is awesome, and speaking for myself I like more this version. Not trollin,I'm just saying :)

‘The White Album’, for example, is four good songs plus an hour of tiresome half-written rubbish, like ‘Why Don’t We Do It In The Road’.
Is this really the work of the best band in the world ever? Nope…it’s just rubbish from a bunch of self-indulgent millionaires.

When you’re five or six years old, ‘Yellow Submarine’, ‘When I’m Sixty Four’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’ and the like are fantastic songs. In pretty much the same way as ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’ is fantastic poetry.
The fact is, though, that The Beatles novelty songs are, frankly, embarrassing. They’re generally awful music hall pastiche with – in far too many cases – the tone deaf Ringo singing.
QUEEN avoided this trap and thank God for that.
