  • muy bien

  • Was the marimba uncomfortably low??? It kinda looks like it is...

  • Wow :-)!

    With great dedication

  • That's a wonderful, dare I say beautiful, performance. Good stick technique and very nice phrasing.

  • @sithwriter there's a reason you called it a cover. It is because the artist performing the piece in this video is not the original composer. She has her own distinct skill set, attitude towards the piece, as well as feelings and emotions. If you want somebody who plays what's on the sheet, find the original composer, or a robot.

  • Why do people mess with the tempo or pulse of this piece? It not just her, just about every cover on youtube does this. Why?!?!?

  • This honestly made me cry. Absolutely brilliant performance. I wish this was on our accepted solos list... D: PS. That buzzing in the background sounded like a snare drum... TURN IT OFF, GIRL!!! But again, excellent job.

  • wow i love this solo so much im going to change my solo from tempest to flamenca :) very beautiful solo i love it so much

  • I love this solo and i'm playing right now for a solo contest but it sounds as she slows down way too much. Some parts its difficult to hear. but great dynamics.......didn't overly like how she played the ballad.

  • wow i love this solo...and just in time for state solo and ensemble :) honestly you played this piece awesome to the point where i dont want to play my initial piece which is tempest by todd ukena very fun but musicality is my area haha

    awesome piece i love!!!

  • Hey- Do you have the score still? It would be great to list this on my Percussion website. I need information like composer details, duration, difficulty etc

    Can you help?

    Thanks,

    Tim

  • your drumroolls are amazing and you combine the phrases with an extraordinary temperament

  • the song at 1.50 must be resonating in the camera because it goes like uuuooouuooo. but ye. I really liked this. keep it coming (more in the internet. needs more decent marimba playing out there like yours!) :)

  • the 15 dislikes are probably because of tempo reasons...I agree with everyone else that your dynamics are amazing and well played and bring life to the piece but to let other things go such as tempo cant happen. Good job though. keep up the hard work

  • Who is your friend and where can we listen to more music played by her?

  • Incredible! Bravo!

  • Astonishing. You played this piece beautifully.

  • Fourteen people accidentally clicked thumbs down. Or they're idiots?

  • @pyenapple Maybe they just didn't like the tune not because of the phrasing, but how the melody sounds. Maybe it doesn't interest some of them.

  • Enchanting.

  • very musical

  • Amazing!!! I love it!!!

  • i want this score please !!!! quiero esa partitura por faovr!

  • quisiera esa partitura por favor !!!! i want this score please!!!!

  • The dynamics are wonderful!

    5/5.

  • @AllTheSame29 um really my left and i need help on the whole thing cause i dont really have to finger controls yet but im not sure what to do my right hand is fine i can play my scales with two mallets on my right hand

  • This almost made me shed a tear. Out of all the percussion instruments I used to play, I miss playing this one the most. Thanks for playing and posting this very beautiful interpretation.

  • but this the best version of this i have ever heard. you really know your dynamics well. your an inspiring marimbaist

  • ok i have a question im doing this solo this year and i want advice how to losen up my chops on my left hand. im so tight and i can control the mallets

  • very well done, bravo!

  • Great dynamics! You're the only person playing this solo that I've seen actually use dynamics. Very musical! Bravo!

  • I see a future in ambient for her :)

  • i think it's the best interpretation of this song on youtube :)

  • @bartibv I agree

  • great!

  • hola alice, soy de honduras y por aca n tenemos mucho acceso a musica para marimba. conoces un sitio donde la pueda adquirir?

    que estes bien, exitos.

  • Nice Interpretation!:) was this hard to learn/play, i might be playing this one and rain dance soon:)

    -JD-

  • can you PLEASE tell me the notes!? thanks!

  • Great song and great player

By the way, Alice Gomez is the composer of this song

  • AMAZING

  • wonderful!

it is performed with perfect feeling of phrasing, dynamics, tempo variations ..

I guess the composer would like this !

  • Beautiful.

  • this is great. its a fairly easy song in terms of notes, but the hard part is getting the dynamics and this is done perfectly

  • amazing :)

  • Que talento;

    muchas felicidades.

  • i like it!!! I did the same song myself... check it out yeah?

  • YES!!

  • Amazing

  • lovely... made me miss playing the marimba :)

  • Bravo Alice. You are a brilliant player.

  • @musicaldawnful Alice Gomez is the composer, lol..

  • @chsdrums012 Cheers for the explanation. The player is very good also.

  • @musicaldawnful lol I don't think her name is Alice (unless it is by coincidence) that's the name of the person who wrote the song

  • @musicaldawnful

    Alice Gomez was the composer.

  • Kickass <3

  • Very musical!

  • Bravo!!!!

  • wow good job

  • awesome job.

  • !tan bien hecho! Tu' es la mejor que he oido. Mantengalo fuerte. : )

  • Can I just tell you that your video is like a Godsend? I've watched about five other videos of people playing Marimbas...and you're the only one who has not made the marimba sound like complete shit. Thank you for that. <3

  • The bars of an original marimba are made of a tree called HORMIGO, it is the tradition that the wood has to be made of such lumber/

To apreciate original marimbas go to Marimbas of Guatemala.

  • what kind of wood are the bars made of? the we have a 4.5 octave Brazillian Rosewood Yamaha marimba at my school and it sounds amazing but it sounds a little bit different than yours probably due to it being a video...

  • You can never have to much height when your striking the bar and long as it's all from your wrist not arm. Her heights are very good.

  • very musical, hi im from mexico and im interested in play that music but we havent than music in this country, so what you think if i send you interesting stuffs from here and you send me music, so lets make a trade, ji from mexico bye

  • very musical performance! I feel like you could ebb and flow just a little more with dynamics and tempo, I think that would put it over the top for me. Great job :)

  • I agree, she is very good and will only get better as time goes by with more practice and experience.

  • VERY nice dynamics =]

  • Wow, perfect.

  • Except for all those missed notes in the first 6th section

  • mezmerizing, haunting & oh, so beautifully talented. what a delightful treat.

  • well done. unusual to see a youtube marimba solo with this level of expression.

  • hell yeah.

  • alice gomez is a great artist, so are you!

  • really good dynamics in this video. Well done!

  • I think YouTube should make ratings go higher than 5. Just for this video.

  • Great use of dynamics and roll speed!

  • that beautiful! i could never play the dynamics that well, let alone play all the note correctly, and memorize it all! =D ps: i play marimba as well!

  • for something with very easy notes you made it very challenging to replicate because of all the dynamics and other emotion you put into your preformance. well done.

ps: i also play the marimba

  • Here the emotion becomes music and music becomes emotion. Fantastic execution, 10 stars at least

  • Their innovated percussion series like ip1003 or something similar I think.

  • ip1002 are the hards that mcm uses

  • what mallets are those??

  • its hard to find people who understand dynamics. perfect

  • awesome

    double mallet holder

  • hey wat mallets did u use for this song?they sound realy nice

  • ARRRGH! I love it! Didnt know it existed and it really sounds like a synthesizer, so huge. The player is awesome.

  • alice gomez is my teacher.

  • thats pretty awesome. i bet shes ridiculously amazing to listen to.

  • she is =]

  • I really love when people ccomment/criticize/give pointers to those who post their videos on youtube. Especially since the posters have no idea what her experience level is. For those of you that have made suggestions/comments, please post your perfect video, since you're all experts.

  • this is so beautiful! very talented

  • try not to be so stiff. otherwise, excellent

  • Oowh !!! SO very very very beautiful !!! I love, love love love !!!

  • Great! Nice solo, don't slow down the rolls to much though. Keep playing.

  • This is such a beautiful solo.

What kind of marimba is she using?

  • Yamaha rosewood

  • aah come on, the snare in the back is a little mistake. I don't hear them anymore because she plays great!! Say something about that..

  • somebody left a snare drum on....

percussion rule #1: turn the snares off

  • word!!!!!!!!

  • AMAZING

  • she's using the stevens grip

  • Stevens grip looks neater than burtons

    would you agree?

  • does no one use traditional anymore? i found it easiest to control of all of them. stevens has better range but sacrifices so much control.

  • Are you mean with the thumb and fore finger between the two mallets?

  • this was really good im thinking about learning this

  • eww snares in the back, lol

  • I feel like you really took down the speed at the rolling part. I'm currently working on this piece, and I think it sounds more "un-depressing" when you take it a bit faster.

  • Wow you're school must have an awesome pit

  • did u ever notice alice gomez likes really drawn out rolling section that make u feel depressed? lmao

  • more more

  • this is a really nice piece.

I think she made a poor mallet choice. I hear to much attacks, especially in the roll section. try a softer mallet and see how it sounds.

(and from the looks of it, those are pit mallets)

  • very nice, watch the hand right during the roll section, it can get a little heavy. check out the 6th interval section in the right hand about 40 seconds in

  • You are really awesome! Your natural talent and music intuition are evident.

    Keep it up!

  • i really love this song. I think the body shouldn't be put into it so much. she was really leaning forward

  • maybe shes just really tall 0.0 =.=

  • maybe, she played it great anyways :)

i liked your raindance video. how old are you?

  • those mallets look really long..there nice where can i find some like that?

  • They are Bacanu signature mallets from Adams company. But they are not extra long. The lenght is the same as other mallets.

  • @nayelistacy She's just a small individual. Nevertheless, handles the mallets flawlessly.

  • gj but try to do fewer mistakes

  • /applaud!

  • me fascina esta obra de verdad yo tb soy percusionista y estudio en le concervatoio y tb tko la marimba, ke obra es?

    podrias pasarmela?un saludo

  • where can i buy one of those D:

  • im probably one of the very few, but i really love alice gomez's slow sections

  • this was a great proformance loved it (though you should try double lateral rolls) but anyways this was amazing

know where I can get the sheet music?

  • In almost every sheet music shop. It is preaty popular piece.

  • why do people feel like these videos are posted for people to being judging and giving "pointers?" Raise the marimba... watch your elbows... just shut up and enjoy the performance.

  • because a lot of people post these for the purpose of getting advice and input from other musicians

  • You're kickin some butt. One thing though is raise your marimba. If you relax your arms then make a 90 degree angle w/ ur elbows that should be your playing area. It looks like ur marimba stand can raise up but if not just take some wooden blocks and find a way to put on some sort of stopper so the marimba wont roll off of them

  • seriously. id guess shes 13 or 14 in this vid. and she is definitly very good for her age, and will most likely be as good as you when shes your age. you are a narcissistic jerk, gtfo the internet if all youre gonna do is say how much better you are

  • Why are some of you being so negative, I enjoyed this, and she's actually pretty good.

  • she's still young and she's good for her age. Give her a few more years and she'll be better than you. And there's nothing wrong with playing vibes AND Marimba. You also need some english lessons.

  • your amazing..makes me want to play. I feel sad I didn't start earlier..

  • woah that was awesome.

  • Tremendous young lady!! that Yamaha marimba is awesome sounding. I play on an Adams and the sound is not as brilliant as yours. Keep up the excellent work. Will watch for more from you.

Living in Alaska, there are not many marimbists living up here.

  • nice performance...relax your shoulders, you're going to get incredibly tense if you aren't already. also, possibly try different mallets in your RH so you don't have to work so hard to get the articulation that you want, esp. in the beginning

  • God, that is beautiful. I don't think anyone else could do such a wonderful rendition. You are truly talented and take a lot of care in what you are producing. The sound of the instrument with you playing it brought tears to my eyes and made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. You have a wonderful talent and I hope it brings you much joy and happiness.

    Regards

    DanH

  • Oooo....that Marimba has a NICE tone. I just stated playing the Marimba last year, and I love it.

    Very nice. :D

  • Excellent work! Nice interpretation, just think about the mallets going more in the air. It's kinda like how Neil Peart talks of making circles when he drums. Let the mallet head come off the bar more and rebound - esp. in the rolls, they don't have to sound full to you, just listen for the hum and it will sound full to the audience.

  • Tu calidad musicales única y gracias por no hacer un VIDEO de tu interpretación musical. Es un placer escucharte.

    BESOS

    YO

  • que barbara!!! Alice te sales!!! Me encanto!!!!!!!

  • your an awesome percussionist and you dont just play the music your turn it into a story and im very inspired by this peice. well done.

  • I really enjoyed your playing. It's musical and i can feel the emotion. Your message I think is portrayed. I hope you had fun playing it. The only big problem that i see is that you look like your slouching over the marimba. Other than that it's fine and i could be wrong it might be the camera.

  • B-E-A-UTIFUL, and you're only 14, thumbs up!

too bad you can hear a snare singing along on the background

  • I am so playing this for next years solo and ensemble, this year I played Rain Dance by Alice Gomez, and just listening to another one of her songs, and you played this one real good.

  • Very good job!! I've to play that song on my exam this year =)=) ..

    How old is she??

  • As far as I am concerned you play this most excellent ! I will now look up some marimba music on Amazon. Thank you for reminding me of this lovely instrument.

  • i am one of those who will not leave comments on youtube vids but i feel that i have to for this video..your playing is outstanding seriously i am jsut totally taken aback yoru musical interpretation and execution of this piece is just fantastic..you have definitely done justice to this piece! well done young lady!

  • This is a nice piece, I wasn't familiar with it. Young marimbists are always in dire need of beginning 4 mallet literature that isn't Rain Dance or Yellow After the Rain.

  • lol sooooo true

  • I LOVE THIS PIECE and you're playing it soooooooooooooooo GOod x)

  • Tnx for posting.

  • Very good, however, in the music score it shows only a contrast from FF to F in the beginning from the first ascending line to the second, also, you add retardandos before each section, and also not a lot of emphasis. on the accents, I feel this takes away from the piece and takes a lot of rhythmic vitality by making it sound as if before each section something is dying within the piece.

On the choral section, it says revrotto, which which means to more or less bend the tempo, not break it.

  • I don't know that I agree... I found her interpretation to be very artistic and well done.

  • What mallets do you use for this piece? I am playing it for solo ensemble and was wondering what type to buy??

  • adams Bogdan's Bacanu signature series, bright soft.

  • this is awesome. i love this piece. good luck.

  • this piece sounds really good its the first time i've ever heard it, and im definitly looking forward to playing in the future. SOUNDS AWSOME!!
