Time magazine did an article on the top 10 DCI performances of all time, of those 10 phantom had 2, and BD had one. the others were the 95 scouts, the 80 spirit of atlanta show, 2000 cadets, 2004 SCV, 2007 Crown, 2007 Bluecoats. BD shows are at a technical standpoint good. Not so much crowd pleasers tho

I know what it takes as both a former performer and staff of a DCI world championship show. AND NO... no university accepts students on acitivity interest and hobbies... academic departsment look at merit, administration look at finances.
When you win something like that, there is a very strong urge to cry. lol. I marched Raiders when they won Div III in 2005, and it was an incredible high. If you under-aged people out there can ever put yourselves in a position to be part of a corps with the kind of heart you see in this video, and the videos of great championship shows, even if it is an Open Class corps, do it. You only have a few years. Make them count.
They are so dedicated and serious about it. It's amazing that a lot of the PR members were crying when they were given the gold. I wish I could be an a band that was that dedicated.

It started in 1987, when they first made DCI top 12. Nobody really knew who the bluecoats were so the parents dressed up in All blue with Bluecoats spelled out on the back. Before BC took the field they were dead front so everyone in the stands could see the word Bluecoats spelled out. Some say that is why they started yelling Blue.
I wish every year was like this. it makes finals night way more emotional, and a lot less predictable since usually the ranks never really change after the southwest championships. in my mind i wish there was a category and a way to measure heart and soul that is poured into a performance. looking at the '08 performances from bd and phantom, i felt the music from phantom therefore seeing them take it all in the end made it that more emotional for everyone. take the crowds reaction for example.
to be honest, phantom earned it.... you know, they work as hard as everyone else every year, and just to see them reach the top of the pillar shows theyve made it :]

People hate the Blue Devils because they have been to good for to long, and win more than anyone, people hate when that happens and look for anyreason to hate them. It happens with sports teams allllllll the time. I personaly love BD, and 2009 was crowns year in my mind, but still in no way hate the Blue Devils.

And you know what? People do care because collages will take a B average Band Student over an A average student because the college knows that they know how to manage their time, they can do a lot at once, and they like to see that! And when you accomplish something that big it's good. They are happy tears

@hpfangirl14 1.) its "college"... a collage is a combination of different and/or mixed media presented as art. 2.) I know what it takes as both a former performer and staff of a DCI world championship show. AND NO... no university accepts students on acitivity interest and hobbies... academic departsment look at merit, administration look at finances.

When you win something like that, there is a very strong urge to cry. lol. I marched Raiders when they won Div III in 2005, and it was an incredible high. If you under-aged people out there can ever put yourselves in a position to be part of a corps with the kind of heart you see in this video, and the videos of great championship shows, even if it is an Open Class corps, do it. You only have a few years. Make them count.

They are so dedicated and serious about it. It's amazing that a lot of the PR members were crying when they were given the gold. I wish I could be an a band that was that dedicated.

wow, that PR member around 7:06 was crying! damn i would be too if i were in his place!! all the dedication and all the sweat the blood and tears that an individual poors out during the time of his or hers experience in corps, is so worth it when a moment like this occurs!! I marched SCV 89 and i know how it feels to be and get this emotional!!! reminds me of me! GREAT SHOW PR!! well deserved 1st place!!

It started in 1987, when they first made DCI top 12. Nobody really knew who the bluecoats were so the parents dressed up in All blue with Bluecoats spelled out on the back. Before BC took the field they were dead front so everyone in the stands could see the word Bluecoats spelled out. Some say that is why they started yelling Blue.

Our tech marched BD for the experience .he marched PC for 2 years,and he loves DCI and music.he didn't do it just for a ring
He told us BD wasn't his first choice.I think his was Vanguard,but he didn't make it

Wow,those BD guys look pretty depressed.our visual tech marched BD 2008,and even after 4 months he still is pissed that he missed a ring by .025
but Phantom earned their title,although the BD show was a really good show

I wish every year was like this. it makes finals night way more emotional, and a lot less predictable since usually the ranks never really change after the southwest championships. in my mind i wish there was a category and a way to measure heart and soul that is poured into a performance. looking at the '08 performances from bd and phantom, i felt the music from phantom therefore seeing them take it all in the end made it that more emotional for everyone. take the crowds reaction for example.

Because all BD did this year was sit on their asses and play. Anyone with eyes or ears should know that Carolina Crown or even the Cadets should've taken first.

I agree, to add to that Crown and Cadets and pretty much everyone else played for 10 mins. Meanwhile you have BD who only plays for about 7...not seein how that works out

People hate the Blue Devils because they have been to good for to long, and win more than anyone, people hate when that happens and look for anyreason to hate them. It happens with sports teams allllllll the time. I personaly love BD, and 2009 was crowns year in my mind, but still in no way hate the Blue Devils.

Yeah as a PR fan, I feel sorry for those who were holding hands there in BD.... I really feel bad for the ones who were covering their faces, they really seemed upset :( but they won the next year fortunately enough for them... I mean 2 years in a row is not really needed, someone else should get a chance, heck I think Carolina should win 2010

.people really make it seem like devils are asses and dont do shit but they win anyway.like we cheat or do nothing on the feild.for 1 .if you have never marched the corps(bluedevils), won a ring from that corps..you have nothing to say..none of you know what its like..in the shoes of a devil..if you are a spectator thats fine but dont speak about things unless you have experienced them...going to rehearsals and show warm ups for years and doesnt mean you know whats its like..

Ok...people comment on sports all the time. Who should've won, who should've lost, who's better or worse, etc. And you say people shouldn't do this with drum corps. So are you telling me that marching is not a sport?
Also, explain why high school band directors are judging in DCI competitions when THEY'VE probably never marched corps before, either?
