@muchrooms- we use tap water but fill a jug up and let it sit for at least a couple days before using.
@AnimaP0L- crickets are good but no matter what insect you feed, you cannot replicate the variety of food they get in nature. It is best to 'dust' their food with minerals (including calcium)
@tcon97 It really depends on how far away the bulb is. If it is on top of the tank and the distance to the geckos is not that far, the bulb will be FAR TOO HOT. Use a normal incandescent light bulb.
do you put stirofome on the sides, bottom, and top and just a way of checking what makes you guys better than other breeders just so i can decide whether you guys are right for me
@tcon97 Do you mean for shipping? We ship many animals and have great success with shipping. If you would like to see some comments please visit our web page (Supreme Gecko) and go to testimonials.
@crestedgeckos217 That is simply a hand mixer. I just went to Ebay and looked it up. You will find them between $ 10-20. Really makes it so much easier!
@Trechno90 I think I replied to this below but let me explain again-
The diet is made up of base and nectar. Base for all the nutrients and supplements and the nectar to add flavor so they eat more. This is all balanced to the gecko's needs.
MRP II part is the Base and the Nectar separated (you get get all kinds of nectar flavors- Banana, Strawberry, Mango, etc.). You mix the two before preparing for the gecko.
CGD (or the One Part) is Base and Nectar all in one package- The Nectar is Banana.
@AlbertoMuse We actually sell the CGD... we started using the product years ago and decided we believed in it so much that we sell it on our web page and at reptile shows (look up Supreme Gecko web site)
I have some questions. How much would you feed them? You said it only lasted six months? Well if it isn't all gone in six months is it a waste? Would freezing it increase the life spand of the food? A little off topic but I read they are nocturnal. Do they make noise at night?
@SizzlinNinja Feed them the same amount of diet (mixed with water) as the size of their heads- that is about the size of their stomachs.
I usually size the food to the number of animals when customers purchase from me at shows. It's not so much that it turns 'bad' as much as the effectiveness of the vitamins in the mix starts to decrease at around 6 - 8 months. Yes, freezing it would help extend the life.
That's cool iv ben breeding cresties for about 2 years now. Have you ever tried a vitamin suppliment and asorted baby food? That's a good method of saving money in theis hard times:)
It's awesome I have a clutch of eggs really close to hatching
@TPGzero Thanks for the comment. I have tried the baby food and supplements... just too much work to get everything just right. the Crested Gecko Diet is so much easier and less expensive.
@peterogoliver I think geckos enjoy inter-species interactions (not that they NEED it) and we as keepers certainly enjoy seeing them together.
They do not need human interaction but they do well with anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes a day of handling (less when they are young and more when they get a little older).
Hey, I just got a crested gecko today at an expo and I have CGD. When preparing it, do you pour two times as much water as there is CGD? Because I think thats what the container my CGD is in said. I did it and it turned out way too liquidy. Or do you just put in the same amount of water that you put in CGD? A little confused...
Great question- yes you can. This is a great way to save time. Mix about a weeks worth of feedings, feed that night, and put the rest in the fridge for later feedings.
You can certainly feed crickets but you will also have to balance the crested geckos' calcium, vitamin, and mineral requirements. The MRP diet is complete- offering all the nutrients and supplements they need. My approach is to feed the diet through the week then crickets on the weekend, just because I like to watch them hunt too :)
:) not sure which flavor you are using but I find that the cherry flavor smells like cherries, the strawberry flavor smells like strawberries, and the snozzberries smell like snozzberries.
hi. i got my first crested gecko about 4 days ago. i bought it meal worms and it did not eat them. So then i went and bought him small crickets, and it didn't eat them either. So i went and bought repashy superfood crested gecko diet and made some and the gecko only licked about 5 times then it was done. it seems like it would be hungry for not eating. but it only licked up a little bit. so im kinda lost on what i should do.
First, newly acquired geckos sometimes go through a period of adjusting and may not eat the first 2-3 days. Next, when feeding insects, one issue we've seen many times is to feed too small of an insect. Finally, one tip I have for the Diet is to add just a touch of honey in the mix the first week or two of feeding to get them use to the smell and taste. Hope this helps.
Yes you can. I feed so much at one time it is not an issue for me. However, many customers mention they make enough to feed a week- feed that night and freeze the rest. Works great. Try those little ice cube trays.
One part is all in one and two part comes in two bags that are you combine- the base and the flavoring.
I get the the comment "My gecko will not eat MRP" sometimes at reptile shows but from folks that have only tried it once or twice. Sometimes it's difficult knowing that they are eating it but they are! If you have a concern, try a tiny bit of honey in the mix a couple time. See if that works.
hmm, do you feed this them everyday and nothing else? i dont have a cresty yet but am thinking of getting them one very soon, should i feed them this everyday for 6 days a week and the 7th day like 5 crickets?
We feed every other day just before lights go out. So, the first day we feed MRP then the second day we mist the enclosure and spray a couple extra times over the food dish to soften up the MRP as it will dry a bit.
You must be in a dry climate? I'm down here in Florida and my CGD seperates leaving a blue colored liquid. Thanks for the video very informative. I do have one question do you feed the same frequency on young or do you daily feed?
The MRP is a complete diet. That means you do not need to feed other foods to your cresteds. That comes out to less than $3 a month and you don't need to hit the pet stores every week for crickets and meal worms.
We are however feeding insects to our leopard geckos and will add 3-4 crickets to their enclosure about once a week just to watch them pounce on the insects :)
Thanks for the reply do you recommend any other feeding's at all for the crested or can they live there full life span safely and in good health with this diet? Also can you recommend a good book on Crested gecko's?
It certainly depends on the size of the 2 or 3 geckos and the size of the MRP package (4 oz all the way up to 4 lbs). It certainly depends on the size of the 2 or 3 geckos and the size of the MRP package (4 oz all the way up to 4 lbs). Here is a good way to calculate this- a 4 oz package of 2 part (base and nectar) will last about 6 months for a crested gecko. At $16 that is the least expensive food you can feed AND is a complete diet!
SupremeGecko 2 years ago
so i guess 12oz for 3 adults would last six months an average?
