@mrwashur1991 - I'm just someone who bought it. The guy who makes this is friendly and very helpful. The unit is probably no match for a $4000 steadicam but it gets the job done if you put a little patience and practice. Good luck! :)
Also mate what size were the ball bearings?just so i can buy the correct ones of fleabay. why did you do this mod?is it really needed and how hard was it too do?
I don't know what size they were. I just went to the RC hobby shop and tried all the ball bearings they had until I found the correct size.
Yes, the bearings did help a lot. But do note that the unit will become very sensitive to movements. But that can be solved by having a perfect balance. And when its balanced, the unit will feel like you're shooting with rails.
The mod was fairly easy to do. I just used a drill and a wrench.
You can still use a ball bearing without a flange, but you will have to drill a hole halfway through the plastic ring and snug fit the ball bearing there. That was my original plan actually.
I own a Canon HV40 and have been looking around for a camera stabilizer for months. I've always loved the Steadicam Merlin but no way in hell am I going to put down $800+ bucks for it.
Question: I'm reading that you've done some minor modifications to your unit. Now, I personally think I've got pretty steady movements while filming (when I really try). If I don't want to modify anything, could I achieve approximately the same quality shots as yours?
@shayne233 - Thats just an aluminum bar to support the camera lens and the DOF (depth of field adapter). Even without using the steadycam, that aluminum bar is always with the camera and the lens. It also helps in "centering" the camera on the steadycam CG (center of gravity).
Oh, so you use it like a rod support. I was trying to balance my HV30 with my Jag35pro but since I can't center the camera properly on the steadicam it doesn't work.
and I have always problems with ediditing my videos because my computer can't play the videos in original quality:-/..(maybe the pc is to slow==??) can you help me please?!?!?!?
@schumacher3344 : I'm using a Jag35 DOF adapter to attach a Canon FD F1.8 lens. I'd suggest upgrading to a faster computer. But you might also try and see if you have the proper video codecs installed on your computer.
Do you always edit your videos in Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 ...you don't have to render them first in lower quality...??..I always use sony vegas...perhaps I have to try Corel VideoStudio Pro X2....
couldnt you have just got a smaller bearing and a smaller screw? or would that not work?
mrwashur1991 8 months ago
@mrwashur1991 - Yes, I could have done that, but it was more difficult to find a small bearing with a matching screw.

do u use any type of desahking software in post prod after u done filming ?
or is this just str8 off the stabilizer ?
eisontv 8 months ago
@eisontv - No deshaking involved in post production. All the clips were straight from the stabilizer. Tnx

What JAG adapter package did you buy? And are you using the achromat?
BlueCastStudios 1 year ago
@BlueCastStudios - The scenes in this video was shot using the Jag35E. I did buy an achromat lens later on which improved the quality.

does this work for t2i as well?

@hussein1sayre - I'm not sure about the T2i, but I think it might work since the mounting thread size is the same.

SleekGTZ very nice ! I have just ordered this mini stabilizer of Phil
after seeing your vid, heard only good things about this Stabilizer and the visuals say it all.
and for the price it cant be beat !
How are you getting on with it ,now you've had it for a fair few months?
Also i would really appreciate more information on your ball bearing mod?
fisherboom 2 years ago
@fisherboom - Thanks! I have updated the video description with links to pictures of the bearing mod.
I haven't used the steadycam lately. It's been raining for months here in the Seattle area. Next shoot will be in spring or summer.

@SleekGTZ struggling to find the correct ballbearings here in the uk mate !
they are defanatly needed if you want presion so i am defantly doing your mod ; ) Is the collar on the ball bearing needed ?
or is the collar so when you tighten the bolt it grips to the collar not the ball bearings?
thanks

Yes you can still can do quality shots with with really steady hands, but its a lot easier to shoot with the modification.

If you're walking fast, yes its a little bouncy. If you walk regularly and with practice, it can be very stable.
