Baslliss, if you fill the frame with the gray card, you should have no problems. 1/3 of a stop is nothing. The small white circle and cross are so the camera can autofocus-most cameras will not take a picture or function properly if the image is not in focus. The original gray cards were plain, but they caused problems when autofocus cameras came along.
Hello from Mexico and thank you for posting this video.
I saw this video 2 days ago and I just got my grey card. But, I have a question. You say that we have to fill the frame with the card on order for it to "read" it. But what happens if I'm shooting full body or a couple? If I put the card to close to the lenses in order to fill the frame it will focus on it and the final photo will not be focused. I don't know if I made my self clear. Well, just hope you understand and reply.
@cabosman Have person in group hold gray card. You move in and fill the frame with the gray card. Take the meter reading, then set that reading on your camera in MANUAL mode. Shoot away. Just don't forget to change back to autoexposure for most shots. Gray cards are especially important at weddings where she wears white, and he black. Very tough situation, but a gray cards makes it simple.
@cpovey1 Was reading your reply to Cabosman on use of the gray card, and wondered if you can answer a question for me as well. I am confused by the exact use of the gray card. In White Balance you fill your screen with the photo and take a shot and then set that photo as your white balance for the session. I understood the gray card to be just for focus and then shoot. Am I correct? Why just focus and shoot?? Can you explain more of this for me? Thanks
you need to get a gray card use spot metering then take a reading of the card then note the settings refocus the shot and manualy put the settings in !
@lucygoozy12 You can use custom white balance. Take a picture with a grey card/white piece of paper/etc. filling the frame, and then set that as your custom WB.

Professional photographers get perfect shots because they don't shoot in automatic...

@kiashadowwave Most people don't know, that almost all professional photographers, 90% of the time use A or S mode, not M as most people might think.

Professionals use both metering, AND external light meters. They do a lot more auto than you think.
