I just found this beautifully sung, delightful and very nostalgic clip. I think you see tenor Hugues Cuenod [now 107] as Don Curzio?? in the finale, running in from stage left. Thank you so much!
Oh, the pleasure is all mine! Just love this production - a crying shame these are all we have of it (unless Glyndebourne's hiding the entire filmed opera from us all!). I adore Die Sena's lovely Mozart singing!
Yes, she was a great Mozartian--luckily we do have an audio recording of this production--which I used to own on vinyl, and now, of course, have just re-acquired digitally.....
This is truly a jewel of the jewels. Thank you so much also for providing the website for the purchase of the DVD. I'll definitely get one copy...it's so worthwhile owning one!
I must warn you all that these uploads are about all the excerpts of 'Nozze' that the film includes. The rest of the short film (runs just over half an hour) is a sweet and silly bit about this fellow's introduction to Glyndebourne with the help of some very nice Brits. It's a charming little film, all the same, with very rare footage of Sena and company in what looks like a lovely production of 'Nozze'!
It's a great pity that Glyndebourne missed an opportunity to film the entire opera, or at least all the key arias and ensemble pieces. But all that we have here are precious enough. Thank you again for sharing these gems with us.
Have managed to get the DVD and watched the entire film. Utterly lovely and charming, all 40+ minutes of it! The production of Figaro shown in the film is truly splendid and Sena Jurinac's Countess is simply divine. Thank you so much again for these wonderful samplings and for letting us know how to get such a treasure.
It is a charming film, indeed - from a different time and world! I am glad you enjoyed it! And you're so welcome - happy to share these discoveries with everyone who might be interested.
They are absolutly AWESOME! Wonderful voice, great professional attitude, wonderful actresses! If nowadays divas where like this....
