I adore the way he tells Johnny that Johnny is smarter than he is - that appreciation. Johnny set him up for the joke and the laughs, and he complimented him on it. Johnny was a genius, and so was Jack.
You'll never entertainers of this caliber on tv again. Thank god for Youtube or we would never get to see these classic clips of true legends. Do you think the networks would re-broadcast segments like these?....I think not.
Johnny was not only Jack's "fan", Benny was also his mentor of sorts when Carson was establishing himself as a writer/comedian in L.A. in the '50s. In fact, Jack gave him an opportunity few "unknown" TV performers had when Johnny was a guest star on his show in November 1955; Carson was promoting his struggling CBS prime-time variety show at the time. And Johnny never forgot Jack's kindness and interest in his career- for the rest of his life, Jack was always welcome on Carson's show...
xD!! at the end "...HOURS?!!!"

Benny's 78 here! Wasn't in great health but he cleaned up nice for this appearance which was close to his last on TV.

I watch Jack Benny's old shows...and from way back.. he ALWAYS conducted himself as a STAR... Bigger than life, and Class Personified.
We will not see the likes of this man every pass this way again.
Rest in peace, Jack and Mary
