beautiful song. I'm from the US, so as a kid I had no idea what "the Mersey" was...the only ferry I knew was the one that went to Martha's Vineyard...lol

Despite the geographically limited lyrics by Gerry Marsden, this beautiful song is my all time pop favourite.
When I was a teen, I would substitute 'Mersey' for 'Maitland' when I sang this to myself.
