As the plane made its approach toward Buffalo with the autopilot engaged, the crew exchanged idle banter, according to people who have read transcripts of the conversation recovered from the cockpit voice recorder. Federal rules and airline policy prohibit pilots from having extraneous conversations while flying below 10,000 feet.
Capt. Renslow, 47, had a history of flunking check rides -- periodic tests of competency that are also required anytime a pilot begins flying a new type of aircraft. Before joining Colgan, he failed three proficiency checks on general aviation aircraft administered by the FAA, according to investigators and the airline.
Repeated check-ride failures raise red flags, and large carriers rarely keep pilots who require such extensive remedial training, according to numerous industry officials.
The captain of a commuter plane that crashed Feb. 12 near Buffalo, N.Y., had flunked numerous flight tests during his career and was never adequately taught how to respond to the emergency that led to the airplane's fatal descent.
Capt. Marvin Renslow had never been properly trained by the company to respond to a warning system designed to prevent the plane from going into a stall, according to people familiar with the investigation.
May they rest in peace, but the fact reminas if they were not talking about personal stuff the captain may have actually done the right thing. But he failed 3 check rides in the past and was breaking FAA rules about personal talk below 10K feet. His fault all the way.
from you people asking if this is fake. no its not.. i was a flight attendant with colgan airlines and i have flown with marvin renslow, and that is his voice. i flew with him when he was a first officer, and then he became a captain. and yes the first officer was rebecca shaw. this really hits home to me to think that three years ago i was flying with colgan and renslow.. may they rest in peace,
What kind of ignorant idiot are you? Of course no good ol' American planes ever go down. Those damn foreigners, they must be responsible for you being stupid too!

Bill Cooper, a TRUE PATRIOT on the EXACT date of June 28, 2001 predicted 9/11 LIVE on his radio show. In November 2001 (1 month after 9/11) Cooper was shot dead.
Oh yea nevermind, they say it's just a coincidence right?
Then listen in as there is NO WAY TO DENY IT. This is NO HOAX. This recording is from his LIVE BROADCAST where he predicted 9/11. 911=Inside job.
She was one of the people that spearheaded the push to reopen the investigation into what REALLY happened during 9/11. She openly challenged the 9/11 Commission Report and all the lies and mistruths that plagued it. She said that the government lied to us and belived that 9/11 WAS an inside job.
Doesn't this seem extremely "convient" that her plane goes down just a week after meeting with President Obama? Why did the FBI show up at the site of the crash?
This was a tail stall due to icing. The pilot had reached the checkpoint for approach. This is when auto pilot was disengaged. When this happened the plane went at a downward pitch causing the pilots to probably give the engines more thrust to pull up when it probably made the plane go down faster. This is just a guess.
'A "stick shaker" and "stick pusher" mechanism had activated to warn Mr. Renslow that the plane was about to lose aerodynamic lift, a condition called a stall. When the "stick pusher" engaged, it would have pointed the nose of the plane toward the ground to try to increase lift.
This is the sort of gear failure that happened with the BA flight later that day apparently from signal interference. ??? Can you comment, could this be accurate?
I wonder why the co-pilot retracted the flaps upon learning of their low speed and the stall warnings. She was probably trying to reduce drag but this would also reduce lift and raise the stall speed.
I'm an air traffic controller, and whenever you hear these "ATC tapes" after an accident, realize the equipment used to replay these communications uses a "skip silence" feature that removes 'dead air' from the playback. The transmissions you're hearing are not in "real time". An aircraft usually takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes from initial check-on with ATC Approach to actual touchdown for landing, if no airborne holding is involved. These tapes, by the way, are authentic. Just an FYI......
its things like this that make you tink which is the safest way to travel

A bombardier dash-8 plane.
In Scandinavia known as the crash-8.
Has crashed in Buffalo. Oups....
Scandinavian airlines grounded them as they where seen as unsafe and that SAS costumers hade lost faith in them.

Question: Why were that last 5 mins of the flight unrecorded? There had complete radio silence after the last transmission until they crashed.

thanks for explaining that. Now it makes more sense listening to the audio recording.

The female talking in this audio was the co-pilot of the plane.
lorachikita 3 years ago
I agree that the female is probably the FO (First Officer, or PNF, Pilot Not Flying) but is there any confirmation of that from any official source?

Why would you call this fake? Were you there in the Tower? Doubtful...and it matches exactly to what was picked up local.
To the poster of the audio...Thank you for doing so. Those of us who live in the area of the crash appreciate it!
