You said the bolt is rough...rough as in sloppy or just kinda gritty due to the finish..cause im torn between the .300win fcp hs precision or a remington sendero
@eternetytenrete You mentioned that you owned a remington before this, savage. May I ask whether it was a remington 700 series and if it was, which do you prefer now, savage or remington?
I've seen it work well on some rifles. On this rifle it did absolutely nothing, but on a few rifles with hunting contours it actually seemed to help. I don't use it anymore unless I'm going to be cleaning in the field. It helps to keep your dobber out of the dirt if things are getting wild.
i tried one of those barrell deresonators on a mosin nagant 91/30 and after rounds it got blown to peices. oh well hopefully youl have better luck then me, i do believe those are made by limbsaver
I like the setup. Agree about the bolt, but really whats been bothering me is the song you play. I know I've heard it before, and can't place it. Who is it and what's the title??
@goyagsxr1 After shooting this stock it is nearly impossible to go back to a hunting taper. People will say, "But you can't free hand with a prone stock!" Last year I freehanded my nice Mulie while he was hopping away from me down a deep draw and split his brain stem on 12X- which people can't believe. A more stable stock platform is a more stable stock platform if you actually practice enough to shoot more than 10 rounds a year.
It took me a while to get used to shooting outside of prone position, but after a few thousand shots I understand how it supports solid shooting. I'll always purchase similar stocks from now on. I've considered adding a comb riser though.
42 grains of hodgdon benchmark with hornady 168 bthp works like a dream out of my savage. for your bullet drop calculator check out the app for the ipod touch, knights armament has the app available. then all you need is a wind reader.
don't sweat all that fancy gear. spend your money on ammo and range time. You will be a much better shooter for it. You have started of with a good rifle and scope. Learn the fundamentals and enjoy your new gun.
it could vary from $900 (worthless scope) to anywhere near $2500-3000 (Nightforce-Schmidt) like mine. The rifle itself starts around 900. Add 50-130 for a base. Add 50-130 for a ring set. Add your optic and you're scaring the shit out of 2-3000 bones. Sorry if that frazzles your mind. : (
heres all i gotta tell ya...there are foreign scopes of the exact same quality made in russia that are a tenth of the price. Dont get your dick in a knot over your "bad ass" scope. Love the gun but i dont believe in spending over 500 on a scope, thats just halfway retarded. BTW the point in the short fat barrel is to "deresonate" and lighten the rifle. Come on man, simplicity, money doesnt buy talent.
@fireball676 Talent isn't really a dimension of precision shooting. Formal, goal oriented practice is more important. Because I own a scope that has never lost a click in thousands upon thousands of clicks, and I've shot with many people whose scopes lose a click every 8, does not mean my dick is in a knot. It means I still have a .5 MOA zero after coming back to 100 yds from a five stage (2,4,5,600 yd) shooting practice.
@eternetytenrete That doesnt really make a whole lot of sense...of course there is practice, but on top of that you need to know how to shoot by kentucky wendage along with the calculated shots, and sitting on a range just teaches you to shoot in a straight line without ever engaging moving targets or targets out of range
@eternetytenrete yea i know we both are....actually i forgot what was said before, all i saw was the last comment....but yea i really havent had the chance to do much practice lately, ive been off to college...and i use a .300 win mag, thats a lot of money to despense at 19....i think it will be a little before i start practicing like i was before...im going to change the barrel and stock on the winchester mod 70
@fireball676 I have one of those 5r .300 WM and that thing will print like no other gun I own. I've shot consecutive shots I eyeballed on 32x and it looked like I missed the target completely. I did it again and again, and when I got to to target it was one hole. I don't see how a relatively inexpensive gun could be so damn accurate. I could have gotten lucky with the rifle tough. I don't know if all of the preproduction 5rs are that good.
@eternetytenrete a remington 5r? huh, im just tired of the synthetic stock on mine, it isnt bedded so i think its pushing against the barrel so i get two really close shots and then i get a flyer. Im trying to get ahold of a savage and stick a select match barrel and a choat aluminum bedded stock....they dont make a .300 win mag left handed with the accustock, so i will have to improvise
There is a deer estate in England, near me where I hunt, and they are using $900 worthless value scopes, but sohot well over 900 deer a year through their larders.
If your complaining about our scopes, why dont we talk about your savage!!
@headphones222 , I will try to make this sound as un-snarky as possible. I've had this conversation a few thousand times, and only half of the people understand it.
First, shooting is not only about shooting deer. This idea blows some people's minds.
Second, price is not performance. Nightforces perform. I do tests with mine, no one else will do. They know they won't hold up.
Third, my Savage 10 shoots .2 MOA at its best to .9 at its worst. An AI would have a hard time skunking that.
As you have bought a tactical rifle though, the AI will function in so many more enviroments the savage will not, its action is epoxy glued into the block, there are no bolts important to the action, and the side panels are removable and not neccessary for accuracy. The bolt will not freeze in cold weather and will function into 50.C
As its not all about deer, im sure durability means alot with a NF, when it gets taken out of the car and put on a mat at the range 3 times a week. I mean man, your average leupold would just crack up man.
I know everyone who owns a rifle thinks they're a "sniper" but some people really do practice precision shooting and there is not a scope under $500 that can keep up with true dynamic field tactical shooting to keep .5MOA. If there is one, it's not a popular model and someone should bring it up- if they truly do shoot dynamically and for precision, not for deer or at gongs.
Let me clarify. Some people think I said $900 scopes are worthless. I was stating a rifle that costs $900 could have a free hand me down scope or a scope that costs $50.
@Elkoholic307 Oh man I know. I just got the gun and just started shooting. The savage trigger was a nightmare for about 500 rounds. Don't worry, the groups are down to .6moa at 100 and about .4-.5 moa out to 350. I'm not great but the gun does shoot.
Lol, although the group is at 200 yards and is Sub-MOA, it is a little wide for precision shooting, but the truth is, most people can't shoot sub-moa in their dreams. It's not their finger. It's their cartridges and their optics.
screw the JB and the PDA. i used to use JB's then Knight Armament came out with bullet flight for the ipod touches/iphones(cause the troops r gettin touches issued now) and it works great!! it is always dead on and hasnt failed me yet + the cost is like $11& $30 and the touch is like $200
I was just looking at the superior ammo website and their prices look pretty high. I developed some handloads for my Savage 10FLP using a lee classic loader and fire formed brass and they're excellent. If you haven't considered doing it yourself, you may want to look into it. Nice rifle.
@dahelmetrk Oh yea I have. Thanks for the concern though. They load great ammo, but they are expensive. I am considered a good loader by my peers and I can't match them in accuracy in my .308. They beat me by a tenth most of the time. But in my bigger guns like my .30-378, I win by a wide margin, lol.
so hey man as far a ballistic calcs. go you can get an ipod touch (or if you have an iphone) there is an app called ballistic it is a full ballistic calculator, there is also a FTE (field tactical edition) that has an hud with quick change inputs. its like 15 - 20 depending on the "edition" i use it and love it check it out
@clap5, On this barrel I think it has no effect positive or negative. I just tried it out because my friend had one. It's worth the price to be able to tilt your gun to clean it on a shooting mat and it will make the gun stand without getting stuff in your barrel. I can't say if it will help flimsier barrels.
im selling my like new savage arms 111 .30-06 its on gunbroker its comes with a 160.00 scope, bipod and recoil stock pad. the guns worth well over 600. i paid 420 for just the gun it's self. let me know if anyones interested i can send you the link
Nice rifle and very sweet scope! I also like the usp (compact I believe?). I have the .40 uspc and would take nothing for it! Looking forward to seeing your long range targets.
Nice. I have a savage 12 FP in .308 WIN I reload my own ammo for it and its SUPER accurate. I love my savage. My trigger is so light is I slam the bolt closed the FP will drop. (Savage trigger safety engages) I gotta disagree with ya when you say .308 isn't a great caliber. I LOVE it. Bucks the wind great and is very common in terms of ammunition selection( bullets for me )
It is a great caliber. It took me a while to grow into it. I would rather shoot a .308 over anything out to 700 yards. Admittedly I haven't shot anything in 6.5 under a .264 WM (I have one for sale that shoots .25 MOA out to 500 yards if anyone is interested : )
nice gun..just bought a remington 700 .308 20" barrel with the hogue stock..love it. couldnt quite justify buying a night force but i love the optics. very nice gun brah
The vid got cut off about 30 seconds short, so I was saying to subscribe because I'll be doing some medium (500-1000) and long range (1000-1650) shots in a few days.

Leupold are like alot cheaper than NF, but the marine corps and army in the U.S. use them?
Also the British army use Schmidt and Bender, agian much cheaper.
How, is a NF much more durable, you dont open doors with them? An AI will keyhole at 100yds, and shoot 2.5" at 300yds with match ammo.
As you say its not all about the deer shooting.
