Looks cool, but I recon the leads should be longer, just in case the dogs stop suddenly There's not much breaking distance between the scooter and dogs.
Pawtrekker..... do you know if they will be suitable for firm sand ??? I live 5 minutes from a 4 mile beach in Cornwall, U.K and have 2 malamutes that could benefit from this. the only video i have seen on here is a trike being pulled in a world record attempt on a beach by 8 dogs at speed... and succeeding (sand sledding). Anyone else had a go at this on a beach with a Pawtrekker, would be interesting to see if it would perform well. Looks the way to go for winter time, my dogs would love it.
hi, i have used my pawtrekker on the beach many times, it does have to be farily firm sand but it is great fun on the beach. just be sure to rinse it off afterwards as the sand and salty water are not kind.
I've run all types of scooters with teams of up to 6 huskies. The Pawtrekker is an amazing Urban Dog Scooter. I would not use more than three dogs with the Pawtrekker. But it is light, fast and the brush bow creates a wonderful smooth ride for low impact urban trails. This is the scooter we use for dog scooter training and lessons. Any type of dog can pull a Pawtrekker. Get out with your dog and run.
After 8 mths of wanting, I have just ordered a Pawtrekker with Sidewalker, studded snow tires, and harness and gangline for front running. My dog is 47 lb. 2 yr. old Belgian Malinois, working lines, born and bred to run all day (herding breed). She LOVES to run & pull my bicycle; the Pawtrekker provides a safer & more stable ride. I've owned and trained dogs for 20 years - rarely meet knowledgeable dog owners with fit dogs. CAUTION: DOGS CAN OVERHEAT/DIE QUICKLY! We run at night in hot weather!
Pawtrekker we bought last year and its the best buy we have done for the huskies. Awesome trainer to progress up to a rig . A must have for working breeds
bought a pawtrekker 6mts ago for my 15mth female malamute to pull as the only way foward from tyre pulling. this has snowballed in to rehoming another working malamute from chayo kennels to team up with her (needed more h.power) now we enjoy 2mile runs in the forest every day . note to pawtrekker bunny hopped 4ft over rabbit warren at 20mph today .super strong frame and rims as im 90kgs
I really like the Pawtrekker - very well built. Have you guys ever used it with the WalkyDog bike leash? It's kind of a cool alternative setup. It can come out either to the side or out front and the internal springs work great for shock absorption. I am posting a video response showing how we set it up. I don't have a Pawtrekker, but I wish I did.
Any dog can do it, as long as they are fit and healthy. I have even seen Greyhounds run on a pawtrekker, anything that is willing to run and pull :) If you email pawtrekker they will be happy to discus things with you.
Before you make a comment like that have you ever tried a pawtrekker and do you know why we have narrower footboards?i suggest you think to ask before you right comment like that.
i'm sorry... i've read my comment again and realise how it might have sounded. i wasn't insulting your work. i just meant that my scooter works better for myself, not necessarily for everyone else.
@ChukchiCatori : I was kinda thinking the same thing like "where is the other foot going to go?" But I don't know anything about the scooters. My Welder husband is gonna make me a scooter for my husky.
I agree w/ you that a wider foot board is better. I've ridden on regular scooters that don't allow side-by-side foot placement and I get pains in my legs. I couldn't ride a scooter w/ a narrow board. This machine looks great in all other ways and If I was in the market I probably buy one, but as soon as I got it home I'd make a wider board for it. 9 1/2" is plenty.
I used to walk my 2 samoyeds and siberian husky around the collage by my house. When they got home they would be completely wore out from pulling me and I even ran most of the 2 miles. Now that I have a dog scooter they make 2 laps around the collage and their not even breathing hard, They were born to pull.
This is a incredible way of spending time with your dogs they absolutely love it I'm just off out with my team now. No it isn't cruel it is what they were born to do anyone who has owned a sled dog will now that. They are a truly amazing breed. Thanks for sharing your dogs with us. Cx
My dad just got one of these for his two Samoyeds. With no training at all, (just a connected lead so they don't go in different directions), they covered 3 miles in about 20 minutes. I realize that isn't very fast compared to what they could do, but they still are raring to go, the younger one continually barking in excitement.
it never ceases to amaze me how people who know nothing about animals will comment about this being abusive to animals...my two pitbulls go NUTS if I even pretend to take their harnesses off the hook in the garage. dogs are hardwired to exercise they need it and love it. it would abusive to deny them this requirement. I've found that the people who volunteer these unfounded and uneducated opinions to me in passing on the trail usually don't know how to even take care of themselves physically.
Do the dogs enjoy it or do you have to whip them to get them to start pulling and teach them with kicking and so forth? I hardly know anyone who owns a dog, my friend had one years ago but it wouldn't do any tricks at all, even for a reward, so I imagine training them to pull you must be really difficult. The idea is neat, but it doesn't seem humane (PETA is against this). Anyway dogs are so impractical in city. The idea of having a whole trail to yourself to run on is kind of strange actually
I Hope this is joke. NO, of course you don't 'whip and kick' them. It is not inhumane, if you knew anything about huskies or malamutes for instance, you would know they are born to run and pull, you can't stop them doing it. Other dogs love it too. You can't force a dog to do it. It provides essential exercise to keep these sorts of dogs healthy. that is not inhumane. Many people can access to open spaces and forest. If you don't know anything about dogs and live in a built up area, why comment?
Wouldn't you comment if you'd never seen some like this before and thought it might be cruel to dogs? It just seems really weird to me that they'd enjoy pulling. I came across this randomly and it kind of shocked me at first, I thought dog pulling was a historical activity from Eskimos. Cool though, ive just never dealt with animals like that I was just thinking from my perspective I wouldn't want to pull someone if I was a dog I'd want to sit around all day lol!!
Fair enough! It just shocked me to think that someone would look at this and think it was cruel to dogs.
I expect PETA's issue with the iditarod and other races is rather different to recreational scooter use. There are a lot of issues there which are not simply about dogs pulling sleds.
If you had a husky or other sled dog breed and didn't let it run and pull, you would be being cruel to it. Anyone who owns one or knows them will know what I mean. They need to do it!
Wow I wish I had that problem! I have a hard time getting myself to work out ever, the treadmill is so boring and then in the streets you worry about someone trying to mug you just for your ipod.
Your right that PETA's issue is more to do with stuff surrounding iditarod, but they eventually would also be against dogs pulling people AT ALL, they see it as a slave relationship but since you say the dogs enjoy it I really think PETA might be wrong about this one...
Also actually PETA says that sled dogs is inhumane, they're against any kind of dogs pulling people or whatever. They advertise about the Idatarod but they eventually want to end all sled dog stuff.

I dunno, maybe PETA doesn't make total sense on all their positions if the dogs really do enjoy it. Maybe PETA is so popular in the cities because people there don't have any personal experience with animals so they don't really understand... thanks for the explanation!
Ive just ordered one from pawtrekkers with the harness and rope with special fittings, its for a rescue rotweiler cross (I think) whatever she loves to pull on the lead and Ive recently discovered she loves to pull along a mountain bike which in the interests of the dog and rider is not that safe ! Ill post a video when it arrives with a review and update of the dog which im sure is going to take to it like a duck to water :-) good fun but need to be very careful regards traffic and terrain..
Looks cool, but I recon the leads should be longer, just in case the dogs stop suddenly There's not much breaking distance between the scooter and dogs.
