who cares if miming or live. just to be there in his presence was like the world could end and nothing mattered anymore. This man is a god and should be respected for being a god!!!
Does matter, if you watch the video carefully it is obvious that the performance is live, there’s another video up by TRICKYLACEY, in which the audio is replaced by HAN 1972, if you compare the two you'll notice. Neil Diamond hasn’t earned its reputation as a performer lipsynching.
My favoite Neil Diamond album - Hot August Night, Opening song - Crunchy Granola Suite - sang by ND 35 years later. Still sounds good to me, although Neil's voice is a bit on the haggard side.
OH YEAH!!!!!! He may have aged a bit but his music sure hasn't. He is so incredibly awesome. I fell in love with him in about 1969 and guess what, like a great marriage, I'm still in love with Neil and his orchestra-AND Crunchy Granola Suite-YES! Thank you for posting this!!
The instrumental of this was used as the theme/backing music to the Billboard American Hot 100 show with Mike Baker on Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton (UK) in the late 1970s.
I always wondered what this music was, now I know.
Yeah, Neils guitar is often off or turned very quiet in the mix. This is probably done because although Neil is a consumate performer and legend of a songwriter, he often plays the wrong chords.
Ha Ha. You might be right! Neil is as you say a superb peformer and one of the greatest songwriter's ever but not a great guitarist. Although 'The Basher' as he known for his guitar playing style has an interesting guitar style very well suited to up tempo three chord songs. Diamond was a top fencer in his youth and you can sometimes see fencing moves in his guitar style. It was a pity he reduced his guitar playing through the late 80s and 90s but glad to see he is back playing it live.
There is some merit in what you say but Neil was having sound problems with his guitar throughout this show. At the beginning of Cherry Cherry during this Glastonbury set his guitar was completely off-mike.
They're British. That's all. I'm British too and I've been to several shows by absolute showbusiness legends, and nine times out of ten I've been disgusted because the crowd has been fucking dead. Even at big name concerts like the Who and Pink Floyd.
Go Neil.....love the brass section! Come back to Australia soon!....and thankyou to the person who posted this......does anyone know if this is a DVD release or TV only.....please advise!!!!!! Go Neil Go.....always the consumate performer!!!!
Dave, Manchester : Neil rocked at glastonbury, he rocks with every performance putting his heart and soul into it, it is a total injustice that he has not been inducted into rock and roll hall of fame but hey does he care when he has us fans to continue to follow him, he is our god and a top guy, thank you neil
Wow! how great to actually hear for the most part the exact same sound diamond and his band did in 72- sans the horns which were electric guitars in 72- but diamond has them in here too. Gawd this is great stuff- I really give it to neil- for reconnecting his old stuff and that sound. The crowd loved it. Thank yo- I am 38 and his sound was awesome in my young years!
Ah Neil...Catch a glimpse of his face at around the 2:29 mark...he's smilin' and obviously having a wonderful time! What a guy.....Still got it with all the moves after all these years...Can't get enough of this video!
Ireland, recently. Have seen all of his concerts here over the years. He seemed to enjoy Glastonbury more. It was great to watch , would love to have DVD of his session at it.Here's tomany more years of this great songwriter & singer.

If songs to hits was the true measure then this bloke is the man. A genius pure and simple. And married one of our Aussie girls to boot.

Why, Oh why does Neil continue to play that Epiphone Diamond guitar? It sounds awful! Great show overall by a legend.

Second only to Woburn Abbey, July '77. In quiet moments in the evening, I still can hear the sounds!
Bet those who were at Glastonbury will still hear this in their head in another 31 years time.
