I would SO have prefferred to see her at Van than Rachael Flatt! She has amazing speed and fast spins, and she's much more exciting and interesting to watch. She should have gone to the olympics in my opinion

@Tsukasa55 She did get the highest score in the free skate...but she fell in the short program costing her a second place finish or higher. But I agree, she is much better than Rachel! Rachel just doesn't seem fluid and graceful...and her spins are not that good; she lacks the flexibility that everyone else does.

The reason why ashley lost to Rachel is because Rachel didnt 2 foot any of her landings on her jumps, the reason Mirai beat Ashley is because Mirai beat her in the short program and Mirai's jumps are cleaner and Mirai's spins are amazing. Thats why she lost.

Rachael only wins because she packs her programs with elements that win her lots of points. There is no artistry in her performance though.

She's fantastic, she looks so powerful when she jumps and she has amazing speed. Personally I would have rather it have been Ashley and Mirai at Vancouver than Rachel Flatt because she bores me, but Ashley should have been thoroughly proud of this programme.

the footwork sequence at the end was so forced and the flow was so bad i had to cringe.

it's one thing to try to make the footwork different or difficult or interesting, but not at the expense of flow, basic artistry and aesthetics. too many skaters are making that mistake.

People are talking about how Ashley should have won over Rachael Flatt but honestly both of them wear me out. I get that it's a "competition" however there are skaters who can do those jumps making it look "effortless" but both Rachael and Ashely make it look forced and tiring....if I had to choose I would go with Ashley. Rachael is technically good but she's a bit awkward for me to watch. Good job Ashley!

She can jump, she spins beautifully, she has the artistry and the flexibility... everything she needs to be one of the bests!

I would like to see her at the world champs next year, maybe with Mirai, but i also like Caroline....

Rachael is a solid skater and usually she skates with great energy, but i don't really like her technique on jumps or her spins.... She definitely didn't deserve the title imo.

I think that technically, Rachel Flatt skated a better program than Ashley. However, artistically, Ashley skated a better program than Rachel. But for me, Mirai Nagasu skated both artistically and technically better than both of them.

I wish there had been 3 spots on the Olympic team, because Ashley certainly skated like/showed the heart of an Olympian here. I wonder how Alissa feels knowing that it was probably her lackluster performance at Worlds last year that cost the U.S. that third spot on the team. That being said, everything happens for a reason and Ashley has 4 years to mature and refine her skating in preparation for the next Olympic go-round, by which point she will probably be the #1 U.S. lady.

It breaks my heart that she is not on the olympic team. Flatt only has jumps. She lacks flexibility all together and is just a giant mess to me on the ice. I don't understand why they love her so much. Ashley is beautiful on the ice has flexibility and has powerful jumps. Idk I'm disappointed. I hate that this is the first olympics that they could only send two girls :(

i have to agree with that. no way in hell could rachael score 200+ internationally. she lands her jumps but there isn't any great height or coverage to them. she's not captivating on the ice...there's just not a lot else to her besides the jumps. the rest of rachael's skating is, unfortunately, defined by her last name...

Rachael can score 200 internationally remember the 6.0 system is gone. She place 5th last year in worlds. The jumps count in the new system. She would need to skate two clean programs for a medal. Every Olympic year there is some top skater where the nerves gets the best of them and end up flat on the ice and off the podium Michelle, Irena etc...

even joannie cant score 200, rachel is not capable yet, she just doesnt have huge pcs to keep her on the map of that score even so you need a great advantaje in the short, the only one i can see getting that score if they are prepared are ashley and mirai, ashley more if she keeps improving and getting 3-3, she already have enough reputation with the judges

you have to remember this is a national competition which means the scores are inflated. Rachael could probably manage a 180-ish kind of score but 200? not a chance.

She's probably the most consistent jumper the US has, and that scores points...
