  • then adam jones came in and took him apart

  • Wonder how the Beast would've got on against the Raging Bull when Phil was at his peak 2002-2003

  • phil for the win !!!!!

  • I've never seen big Phil struggle so much at scrum time... Nevertheless he still was one of the best props in the northen hemisphere

  • Beautiful rendition of Swing Low... by the way.

  • I'd love to see a northern hemisphere vs southern hemisphere game in between world cups.

  • @moffster lol theres just been 1 if u diddnt know, southern won :'( oh well

  • phil vickery got dicked on, it happens as a prop? i play prop and ive been completely wanked on yet in the replay match i destroyed the same guy? it happens lol, im not defending phil vickery but to all those guys who are all mtwarira is all this and that, 2 words:adam jones. now schalk burger (i dont like him) i must admit is a great player, bakkies botha is an animal and i love him, cant see why loads of people hate them for being aggresive: kinda the point of rugby? oh and im from england :D

  • @deandurbin I agree, alot of people just like to run their mouths about players this and that but do not actually know how competitive it is out there on the paddick. You win some and lose some...but the good players were there for many times giving it their all....but as soon as some new prick has a good game then it's out with the old and in with the new.....they are not true fans of the game...only a fan of the hype!

  • @ConservationPhoto Well Vickery was right! Took the NZ ref 63 minutes to work out that Argentina were killing the ball at every single breakdown situation. And during the game where was injured the ref totaly f@#Ked up.

  • hahahahah his last game hahahahahaah every time i see this video i cant stop laughing, your british and irish lions v springboks videos are the best combatbok

  • I've met Vickery and he's a really nice bloke, I sincerely doubt he'd feel rough about being fucked by the Beast. It's just the way it goes sometimes. @City Saffer We're really not all like that pal, alot of us up here have so much respect for what you've done for the game. However, you're all still massive dickheads ; ) x

  • BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAST

  • vickery...most over rated player ever. only prop in english rugby hence game time!

  • It didnt ruin his career.

  • @deandurbin : As long as makers of youtube videos feel it is their right making calls on players like Bakkies Botha there is certainly nothing wrong producing videos such as these. Bakkies Botha does not deserve the critism either, the real dirtbags in the game don't get caught, really dishonest players don't get caught... Only an idiot will not recognise that fact. Beast destroyed Vickery top bloke or not.

  • @Taureaux4bleus Beast destroyed vickery for one test... also I do have to agree guys like bakkies botha and Schalk burger don't deserve the stick that they get for being brutal, physical players...sure sometimes they go a bit too far but you border on that all the time with international rugby, whatever nation you're from and yeh the real scumbags of the game don't get caught *cough cough french scrum halves*

  • Unfortunately this was a game too far for the old man, however he did have a good game in the last test and the greatest career of pretty much any tighthead ever to have lived :D

  • i remember this game, and just watching it back i remember how much of a complete idiot this ref is!!

  • @deandurbin It's a video! A tease! Build a bridge and get over it!If you cant take some banter, regardless of what form, or if other countries make fun of your country's player, then please go support "football" as we don't have time for winers!

  • This is a harsh video. It wasnt just down to Vickery but also mears and the 2nd rows. Vickery held his own in the 3rd test with shaw in behind him.

  • totally the wrong decision to field vickery in the first place. Adam Jones was by far the better player and is still one of the best props in the world. what a difference Adam made to the game, mtawarira struggled against him.

  • Haha, last game? No, Phil mullered him in the 3rd test!!! Indeed it was a shame Murray injured his ankle as Beast was DESTROYED by him in Scotland! Bismarck Du Plessis is the only front row of international class, best hooker I've seen anywhere for years but he can't do it alone! His brother is not in Mujati's league nowdays either and he's just getting better! SA or England to win WC (am I gonna take some stick!). NZ to bottle it under home pressure, but NOT putting money on that?!?!

  • Can somebody in the know with regards to scrummaging tell me something?? Are the props supposed to drive straight as in not up or down??? As in drive horizontally!!! Why does it look like the Beast is constantly getting under and driving up...rather than engaging and driving through?? And in at least one of the scrums (at 0.35) his ass is perpendicular to the scrum...like hes driving in on the tightnead!!! Or am I just reading the engagement and drive wrong??

  • @kevtyrrell Unfortunately this is legal but quite a cheap tactic, the only time you aren't allowed legally to drive up is if you are on level engagement, If you get lower and drive up it's legal but in reference to driving in on the tighthead yes that's illegal and it's cheap but most props who do it get away with it in the modern game, there should be an extra official called the scrum official who officiates scrummages :P

  • people forget too quickly that vickery played this game because he was the outstanding tighthead in the warm up games. He was never the world's greatest scrummager, but around the park he was absolutely awesome in his prime.

one bad game doesn't make a bad player, and he came back for the last test and scrummaged very well.

  • did Mtawarira get man of the match for that cause that was pretty good scruming

  • mr vickery i have great respect for you. after the 5th scrum yoyu wouldve known you were in trouble. not only from the beast but for ferther selection as an international. after the 5th srum maybe you shouldve rolled your outside shoulder to pin his chin on his chest to stop the follow through. if that had failed maybe pull the scrum down and get up really fast then stand on his hand. as he looks up from his haunches knee him clean in the face and call him a raicest. KIWI STYLES CUZ!!! bahahaha

  • as a tighthead prop myself there are 2 ways to combat a heavy engagement and follow through. 1. drop outside shoulder to pin the looseheads chin on his chest ( but make sure you have a long bind) this needs to be done superfast befor he gets his second shunt on. 2. if this fails pull the scrum down (perposely) make sure you are the first to get up. stand on his outside hand and as he looks up complaining knee him square in the nose. KIWI STYLES mate hahaha

  • this is beautiful

  • my last name is vickery too lol

  • BEAAAASTT!! Well done my boy! You make us proud to be South Africans ( even if you from Zim ) International Superstar!! Best Tight Head in the World!

  • @thesaoak Mtawarira is a loosehead prop. Very good prop, but in my opinion not as good as Gurthrö 'The Beast of Yucca Flats' Steenkamp.

  • @Peacecap 4sure GSK is up there, questionable in 2009 but had a great 2010 super 15 4 the bulls... hope he makes the WC squad however I just cant see him pipping the beast to a place in the starting line up @WRC2011 if fully fit! The 'Beast' is still learning all the time... which is pretty scary for opponents!

  • I've never seen an international prop get lifted off his feet like that. Hats off to the BEAST

  • He played in the last test

  • i dont understand rugby very well can someone explain to me what Mtawarira is doing to "own" vickery a very technical explaination please

  • @harrymail7 basically, Mtawarira turned Vickery's shoulder into swollen man-putty.

  • Vickery was certainly given a testing time against the beast in the first test, but in fairness to him, he came out in the third test and definitely got his own back on the South Africa scrum, ended up winning several penalties for the Lions. Credit to the guy, he knows how to fight back

  • @Gcontrol2007 Yeah, that is a fair point. Anyone who has watched Vickery over the course of his career will agree that the man doesn't lack for bucket loads of character. Will definitely give that to the English - it's an enviable trait of your rugby (guts). Thank God the ABs don't have it, or no one would ever see the world cup!

  • great scrummaging by the Beast! but again vickery was never the best tight-head going around...but full credit to th Beast for putting him into a long over due retirement...

  • mayb wit a diferent ref sum of those decisions cud of gone the other way!!

  • @harefavourites friend, blaming the ref in rugby brands a person... think twice before you say stuff like that...

  • great vid

  • lol cya tubby!

  • everyone look up the video of Jonah Lomu puting Vickery on his arse lol

  • @umaa002 haha yeah i'm trying to find highlights of that 2002 match

  • Vickery getting put in his place...the game is a better place without this dirty tosser.

  • stukkend

  • Phil Vickery was never the best scrummager around, not bad but Julian White was a far superior tighthead for England at the time they were playing. Him and Os duRandt were very similar, great footballers and very mobile (for props)park, but at their best against top opposition they just about held the scrum together. The best props of the last few years whi can dominate in the scrum and contribute in the loose are Carl Hymans, Sylvain Marconnet and Martin Castrogiovanni.

  • @kingsnorky BJ Botha!!

  • @adey08 Could be a great prop, done very well for Ulster, but needs to play more internationals. If he went back to South Africa then he should become the regular Sprinbok tighthead.

  • haha no it didnt ;p unlucky better luck next time

  • @Jayoono, have to back Marz. There's also Os Du Randt who was 191cm and you wouldnt find a better scrummager

  • HAHAH ye he ended that fat useless players career, but adam jones came on and SMASHED HIM ahah

  • I disliked Vickery anyway, he just lost it. But i like the fact that not only did he destroy Vickery's career but he made Adam Jones', who was never recognised as the great scrummager he is.

  • Awesome scrummaging. But the ref was weak as piss - he was boring the whole match. However, as long as the ref lets you do it, you do it. PV also needed to speak to his flankers to get them to hold him straight. Again: beast good, referee fucking terrible. Speaking as a prop.

  • break his leg. big head, small leg, chop, chop, chop em down

  • Obviously Tendai has the physical advantage, he is much stronger, just look at his neck and arms, and he's also smaller, wich makes for a lower center of gravity, wich gives you serious advantage in a scrum. Props that are taller than 1m90 have no future in rugby.

  • @Jayoono andrew sheridan is 1m93 as is carl hayman who used to be the best prop for the all blacks.

  • Still, too tall to be a good prop. If the other's 10 cm smaller, he will take advantage of getting straight under you and pushing you out, certainly if he has more physical strenght.

  • @Jayoono bullshit, matt dunnings incredibly strong and short and was destroyed by andrew sheridan

  • true, i guess even saffas rate hayman as the best in the world

  • He was the best prop in world rugby by a mile when he played. Im stil pretty sure that if he went back to New Zealand he would dominate the propping world once again

  • he's such a cocky shit vickery never liked him glad he's finished the dirty bastard.

  • Sounds like a bloody funeral dirge....

  • y is it that every1 has negative things t0 say ab0ut S.A.. n0rthern hemisphere teams hav their head held s0 high for n0 reas0n... i w0nt take anything away from ENGLAND n0r France.. bt come 0n every1 kn0ws that the s0uthern hemisphere teams are the 0nes t0 beat..

  • Vickery is Coming on 36. He has won the lot.

  • for some reason, this is such a sad video..

  • John Hayes is better than Vickery, as he proved in the third test.

  • yeh u southern hemisphere wankers aren't thugs are u. no one likes a bad sport stop whinging

  • Very conveninent classification, Salesharks07 ... Burger (and I'm not defending him) gets lambasted, but nothing is said about Jennings, Best and Quinlan, because it wouldn't "fit" with the Northern Hemisphere view of the "thugs" down south. Absolutely love the way we, the ABs and Wallabies are branded as thugs when we're winning, but the Brits and Irish are all "tough guys" when they're winning. Myopia seems to me the national sport up there.

  • 'Myopia'? Mythopia u retard

  • WOW ... you're REAL special ... "myopia" = nearsightedness, which is exactly what I'm getting at. "Mythopia" (actually, "mythopoeia") = fictional mythology??!!!). Learn to speak you're own language, "retard".

  • @AlerG18889424 What in God's name is 'mythopia'? He said 'myopia' as in short-sightedness. Your word doesn't actually exist.

  • I cant tell you exactly why "nothing is said" about Jennings, Quinlan and Best. They got what they deserved - LONG SUSPENSIONS! Burger didn't. And Peter DeViliiers tried to make out it was all part of the game.

Nobody brands the AB's and Wallabies thugs from my experience either. I'm irish by the way. There is some ill feeling towards the Boks since the Lions tour though. Alot of which is down to Schalk giving Luke Fitzgerald an eye massage.

  • We never call the Wallabies thugs, we call the AB thugs when two of them pick Brian O up and try to break his neck, and for the SAs when Burger tries to push his fingurs into Adam Jones' eyes

  • @CitySaffer See the kick by Vickery on Bismark du Plessis in the last few seconds of the clip? And we're the thugs?

  • @CitySaffer firstly in ireland we have our 2 national sports before rugby, secondly as a munster fan i have great time to watch southern hemisphere rugby, i think it's far more entertaining and i would never brand it as thugish, the way rugby is played down with yea is a far more physical contest which is what i love to see in rugby, that's why i'm always chuffed when we get foreign players with us like the likes of jean de villiers and dougie howlett

  • @CitySaffer I'm English and totally agree with you mate! Cueto has just been given a "nambypamby" 9 weeks for contact with the eyes of a Saints lock...pathetic! Don't class me with some of the "narrow minded" whingers we have up here, there's foul play in every country. HOWEVER, my biggest rant is the lack of consistency either by the referee or via the citing commissioner, it's laughable!

  • @CitySaffer well thought out and well put. very true

  • @CitySaffer You're at it again! "The northern hemisphere view". I'm northern hem, love rugby, AB's and SA's, I've been there, watched Super 14 and made lifelong friendships! Again, we aren't ALL as the propaganda machine makes out! Ignore the pillocks on the board, there's many up here AND down there. Beast, like Mujati, is playing superbly well beyond his young years for a prop, not sure of your TIGHT head options re WC, the 7 other positions in your pack are great dep on PDV selection policy!

  • @CitySaffer too true...bakkies botha is nt allowed to clear rucks incase he hurts sum1...its actually ridiculous...northern hem should js play tht nonsens tht fills tiny stadiums and bores us to death with attempts to sway refs to giv pen tries

  • @gfdsa54321k very true super 15 has better more aggresive rugby but the defence is lacking, I'm not saying they can walk to the line whilst reading a magazine of fhm but in the premiership take saracens who won the league this year and had one of the lowest bonus point scores, its just a different way to play, and yeah rugby isn't as big up here due to the littke thing called football that dominates every pub in this rock

  • wow Vickery wat happen mate .....he is a good player .but he just meet a force he couldnt match ... hopefully he can play again .... NOrthern hemisphire teams are getting out scrummed by thugs from the south well done SA

  • To be fair to Vickery, he had to scrummage with the tiny Lee Mears. Adam Jones did not have to do that.

  • Phil has had a great career. But he got stuffed in the 1st test and cost the Lions the game. As was proved when the Welsh front row came in for the second test, the Beast was not a great scummager.

  • im an irishman too and i think that the southern hem is good, but there not as good as they think they are, i like most of the south african team, but some can be dirty as fuck. but truthfully this is about tendai mtawairira so just let that be it.

  • Fuck all of you who says that S.A rugby are full of "thugs", i can give you one persons name that was the biggest thug of them all .... your own "Martin Johnson". Soo....fuck you. And go win a fucking 6nations for a change you english fucks!!

  • personally i dont think South African rugby is full of thugs, every team will get into a fight at least once, its envitable, doesnt mean theyre thugs. tbh i agree, martin johnson was a bit of a hot-head, bu thers no need 2 say go and win a 6 nations "for a change" if you look it up we've won it the most amount of times

  • dude im so with u on that one!

  • Really nha10? you advocate punching, do you? Play me ONE clip of the Lions series showing a Bok throwing a punch. Just one. As opposed to BoD, Phillips, etc ...

    Who're the thugs now? Gits.

  • yes because thugs dont gouge eyes do they

  • oh come on how can you ga from watching this clip to having a go at the whole southern hem. this clip is about beast playing a better game then vickery thats all, dont be sour.

  • I'm an irishman and it bugs me when all these southern hemisphere teams who pride themselves on being 'rugby kings' have to resort to such low tactics, such as the eye gouge on Luke Fitzgerald, majority of the team are complete thugs and I do stand by that , in my opinion , The beast is completely overrated, he murdered vickery put not jones or hayes and even vickery came back and matched him, I just dont appreciate there jacked up oversized bullying type of rugby, it doesnt intimidate teams

  • Forgive them for they are idiots who just don't know better. I am south african, and I want those guys to play the best out there. If the opposition star play gets hurt, I would give a pint of my own blood to keep him on the feild.

More glory to be had tjhat way, and glory is what its all about surley.

  • vickery is long past it.

  • du plessis is a mug. look at how he just drags vickery out of the maul by the neck and throws him on the floor..

no way would that have happened if vickery was face to face with him.

  • England needs to bring Haye or some other heavyweight boxer to their team and he knock the stuffing out of the bok forwards....one punch and their career is over

  • last game ???

he came back in the third test and matched the beast didnt he??/

not to mention adam jones matching the beasts power in the second test, before the boks realised he was a threat, therefore HAD to be taken out, whichever way was possible..

enter bakkies botha, a true south african thug....

  • I dont really understand all this northern/southern hemisphere shit.....you really think the aussie team gives a shit about the boks?! im surprised you guys cant recognise good players no matter where they are from....... for example what do you think of Brian O'Driscoll?

  • Sick of British whinging already. Hey Poms, your Empire is gone, you have no real power left, and no one is listening to you anymore. Now we are all just waiting around for Islam to take you over.

  • Wow, insightful stuff

  • Im guessing you dont study politics

  • wow my favourate player

cant wait to see him in action

counting down the day of super rugby

  • Vickery has never been a particularly strong scrummager. Showing Mtawariwa propping against Adam Jones would be a much truer reflexion of his abilities.

  • BEEEEEAAASSSSSTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!

    You beauty!

  • This is stupid. Why hasnt any 1 put up the clip of how Adam Jones scrummd the Beast? Or how Vickery got revenge in the final test?

  • Adam who .....

North hemisphere rugby is a massive joke ...

New South Wales schoolboy could be England's first 15

  • Do yourself a fucking favour, go to the library(Do you know what that is?), get an atlas and have look at where SA is you ignorant fool, or maybe just sit there on your fat arse and type in South Africa on your search engine and learn something constructive for the day. Why did you even reference slaves, because The Beast is black?

  • Thought Vicks was finished after this, but they took him away fixed a few things and he came back.

Shows what a good scrum coach can do.

  • fair point man but since the world cup winnning forwrds coach cam to ireland our forwards have be immaculate not takn anything away from SA but ireland wil be a hard team to beat on home soil and that wil be giving the andvantage :)

  • Irelands pack has too many weaknessess.

  • Beeeeeaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssttttttttttttttt!!!! so proud to live in South Africa :) BoKKe 4 Lyf!

  • The Beast is better educated than you, his grammer would not be back to front. He earns a hell of a lot more than you do too!!! Go listen to Limp Bizkit.

  • what the fuck are you talking about? how is that even relevant to what i even asked?

  • Who is your slave knuckle brain? Slaves are not paid and generally had no education. The Beast in in South Africa to play rugby. He decided to join us from Zimbabwe.

  • what are you talkin about? i was asking if they had slaves period. i have no idea what you're talkin about.

  • South Africa never had slaves. There are domestic workers (kinda like nannies) but they get paid and there is even a minimum wage. There was a racist white government, and now there is a racist black government.

In the face of all of this, the Springboks overcome the obstacles and win world cups, Lions series, super 14s, tri nations, 7's world cups, masters world cups and become the IRB's world number 1 ranked team.

    Any other questions?

  • Are you for real?! SA abolished slavery in the early 1800's, one of the first "western nations" to do so.

  • well i didn't know that because they don't teach that here in florida. lol

  • @clone1918

roflmao some people are really stupid, sorry this is getting embarrassing :D. You really made me laugh, apparently, you don't know anything :).

  • you're a fucken idiot, our schools don't have time to waist on stuff like this. i ask a simple question and all the idiots who talk shit over the internet come out.

  • 1st test phil got creamed but when adam jones came on the scrums wernt as bad, the 2nd test jones creamed the beast in nearly every scrum the 3rd test showed that phil can take on the new sa no 1 which he did the sub when viskery cam off john hayes held his weight against the best also

but the beast the the way forward for international props i ae no prob admittin it and i am irish

i cant wait to go to the november internationals and see ireland vs sa gonna b epic!!!

  • Ireland vs. SA is going to be soooooo one sided. Sorry, but it's true. On the heavy tracks up north, the Boks will grind any team into dust. That is unless Paul Honiss is reffing that is. Then he might let you win by gifting you guys a try like he did a few years back.

  • The third test Beast was immaculate, it was Chiliboy who was the weak link.

  • It was, as soon as Bismarck came on the domination ended. Thumb me down all you like, it doesnt change what actually happened.

  • vick had a bad day, anyone see adam jones tame the "beast" ha

  • Anybody seen Bakkies Tame Adam Jones ha

  • He didn't tame him he broke his shoulder!

  • what? Vick just got creamed. During 3rd test match, he got creamed by Beast when he came on, then the coaches took him off immediately... he lost fair and square. but i admit, Welsh props were magnificient

  • u guys dont know alot about scrummaging. props arnt rlly good till about 26+ yr old (i know phill is 32, but thats still in acceptable range imho). Phil just got anally pumped. and as a prop myself, phil just had one of those days, where the ref singles u out early, ur tired, over excited and haven't versed a quality scrum in a while. phil isn't the cream of the crop anyways. most, if not all of the tri-nation props would send him packing.

  • haha fair play vickery is a fat old man

  • Vickery sent packing by Beast!!

  • To you, it's Mr. BEAST.

  • any prop wouldve gotten destry by Beast on that day tbf to old phil...

  • even though i'm welsh have to take my hat off to vickery after getting heavily critisised to come back and prove himself in the third test was top

  • took it on the chin and came back for more. Think a lot of it was down to the technique that Phil used didnt work against the Beast. The Welsh boy must have gave him some tips eh?

  • Sorry for my BAD english :P

  • Comment removed

  • the sprinbok prop was better, no debut about that, but the reff can play a better rol, mwawarira cross vickery all the scrums,

what ever the welsh props RULES!!!!!!!

  • Excellent video,Vickery had to have a Welsh man come on and save his embarrassment from carrying on!!

    Priceless

  • Comment removed

  • Well Phil's almost certainly due to start in the 3rd test this Saturday, so his career isn't ended just yet! All prop's have good and bad days at the office, and Phil has done plenty of bloody good work in hundreds of scrums over the years. Especially in the real crunch moments ( eg the world cup ) when it matters. Credit to Mtawarira. I just hope someone doesn't right him off the first time he gets popped out of a scrum - whatever country does it.

  • Very good point - I totally agree

  • yeah fair enough but fair play vickery was well and truely smashed in that test, one of the most one sided scrums iv'e ever seen

  • Ends his career? Thats a bit harsh wouldnt you say? I admit Vickery was squished by the beast by he is still a formidable scrummager - just clearly was not as good as the beast this day.

  • Nice vid Combat Bok and well done to the Springboks for there win but the real winners were all us fans who have witnessed a full on old fashioned test series which even the World Cup cannot match!! Come on the Lions in Johannesburg and leave with a win!!

  • adam jones is a fat pudding

  • He's gonna get fatter now he can't play rugby for a while!

  • BBBEEEEAAAAASSSSSSTTTTTTTT!!!

  • That it's beautiful !!!

  • adam jones repaired the damage mtawarira did to vickery in the second test, glad thats that for vickery

  • Haaha are you kidding? You talking about the same fat Welshman who's now sitting at home.. or in hospital in cardiff?

  • Did you watch the game? AJ did so much better than PV, who had one of the worst professional games I have ever seen even at club level. And you shouldn't hold anything against AJ because he had his shoulder dislocated. Learn something about rugby before you comment next time please.

  • Ah Yes Pete I know about rugby. Actually I have nothing against AJ, I am just winding up the whining whingers. No one likes to see a player hurt like that, but challenges like that happen in every game.
