Such a great band. I bought this CD way back in the day but I can't find it now. This is one of the few bands from that era which I still come back to and listen to.
This is easily one of the best music to music video combinations i have ever seen. Such a raw truth to its message. Such a stone hard reality. A thin veneer of "happiness" matched with middle-upper socioeconomic success that only serve to mask a slow and painful decent into total and utter familial dysfunction with strong undertones of pedophilia . The American dream come true. Unfortunately I imagine that there are more people who can relate to this video than we will ever want to admit.
@RuomligAC My thoughts exactly. The father sinned against the boy, the wife practically breaks her face from smiling as if nothing is wrong, and even the concerned daughter is powerless to do anything.
That wasn't meant as a dis. This song is fucking awesome and this band was really unique in my book. I wish that something could have evolved, it's just the reality that we all know it couldn't have.
I am happy that these guys disbanded. I loved the album but the thing is, this sound died a long time ago. It's great that it is preserved. Circa Survive WAS (keyword) amazing with Juturna. The dark tones of their sound is something that I feel that bands in this genre could perfect in only one (seemingly easy, yet probably not so much) album production. I have Circa Survive's two following albums and the atmosphere just isn't the same. It's disappointing.
i think this band was overlooked because they were a little ahead of their time. if they were around now, they would have a much better following with bands like circa survive out and about.
@cloud041089 Yeah, maybe, if you think "ahead of their time" means "twenty years behind The Cure." In scenester land, this is ahead of its time. I like this song, but they are NOT ahead of their time.
if you like this, buy their album. It's great and very cheap on Ebay. No joke, worth it and a shame they broke up before they could get the ball moving. Awesome band, awesome song, awesome video.
As an added note, this song is even more haunting because of it's hidden messages, and it really feels like the lyrics apply to our times. The NOW! We need to pull ourselves out of this world. Nothing is real.
I NEVER get tired of this song. It's haunting, powerful and full of emotion! No I'm not emo. Check out my Tribute MV for the movie "Mirrormask", using THIS song!!!
I love this video! I can't really say anything good about it, because people have already said what I wanted to say, and they've said it waaay better than I could.
Wow, I forgot how great the direction in this music video is... the characters are so striking and it hits perfectly with the music. The black and white especially. It's a shame there wasn't more interest in the Cave-In/Codeseven/Circa Survive/Dredg-type sound, but then again, probably good, because there would be commercial whoring. This type of music hits me really hard emotionally, but moreso in a "wow, life is genuinely stagnant" mood.
Great description! The mood of this struck me in a funny way as well. Really hit me hard emotionally. Felt an odd mix of anger and sadness, and yet I still craved the song! I thought it was just me. Evoking strong emotions is probably why this type of sound didn't catch on. (true emo?)
If you liked this, check out Backworlds by Lusk (in my Favorites) for a similar tone. Now I wanna check out those other bands!

I heard this song years ago and never forgot about it. This band pretty much went under the radar of the world.

caesura- a usually rhetorical break in the flow of sound in the middle of a line of verse!
this band had a sound like no other!
