I was amazed when my uncle pointed out that the Dead had a lot of country in thier music - it was so clear it was like a light bulb going off in my head!! Our love will not fade away!!!
Why? I just dont get it. Dragging melody, out of tune vocals...really people. I saw this band 5 times to see what the hell was going on and never got it. Listen to the original, that is how it is supposed to be played.
@fortancient I'm confused. You said you went to see the 5 times and never got it. Then, I guess you must have listened to it on a cd or something and now you do get it. Well why did you 5 times? Did you just want to say "I saw The Grateful Dead 5 times"!
@fortancient - I saw the band 105+ times. The first 35 or shows (Brent era) from 85'-90' were smoking hot amazing, mind blowingly incredible. This version if Mama tried sounds pretty poppin' to me - Call me crazy

I know all of those crazy wild basketball fans jump up and down a yell when Duke plays basketball there. I hope they would do more of that during this perfomance.
Hey "grandbbq" ... same 1st shows, same story :-) I'd only even been introduced to the music a month or two earlier. I liked Aoxomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun, and knew some people who said, "Oh, you HAVE to see them live," so I was curious, but most of the albums didn't do much for me. Someone had a spare ticket, though, and ... well ... you know how it goes with that bus ...
Well those are some really ignorant comments yeah. The Dead prob did more to honor traditional american music than ANYONE EVER did. Despite the obvious downfalls of their....habits, much of the music they wrote is closer, (actually IS), true American country music. Jerry was RESPECTED by Merle and Johnny Cash and others though the interaction was not well known.
That Nashville shit you folks refer to as country is NOT nearly close to the real thing. Its just pop really.
Bob always dressed so well..I hope he gets saved..

I was fortunate enough to be there this night & am very GRATEFUL to have been!
Why some of you want to pick apart a live performance escapes me.

decent version, but the dead covered alot of music, and I can say for sure they do the blues a bit better.

Hey, the Hag would be very supportive. It is a good version. Not Haggard's level but few can get there doing HIS work. I like this very much.

the thing is that when the grateful dead played covers, they played them all the time and then it basicaly became there own song
pyrotech8285 2 years ago
Uh, yeah, that is a cover. I suggest that you pick up "The Music Never Stopped: Roots of the Grateful Dead". Really good insight into the band.

dude of corse we know thats a cover, the dead did lots of covers
pyrotech8285 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The singer talks but Merle sings from the heart, not a patch off the original.
