The occupation is not there because Israel wants to be there. They were not there from 1948 to 1967 (and by the way, Jordan killed more palestinians during that time than Israel ever has). Then, when the Arab nations started the war in 1967, Israel took the land. Immediately after the war (check your history), Israel offered to give it back (they don't want it!), the Arabs issued the 3 No's.

Read on the Muslim era; the Jews were actually PROTECTED by the Arabs in exchange for paying heavier taxes than Muslims (just like the Christians and pagans had to). however they were so highly trusted, that the Arab's Sultans actually had Jewish doctors from time to time (like Moshe ben Maimon in Saladin's court).... a far cry from what the Jews were subjected to in Spain for instance by the holy Inquisition where entire Jewish villages were burnt to the ground with their inhabitants.

So, when Israel crushed them, I think that Israel hasd every right to occupy them until they reached a peaceful agreement. Israel pulled out of Sinai when Egypt agreed to a peaceful compromise. But the Paelstinians aren't willing to mkae peace.

Palestine may feel like a prison, but Israel has no interest in keeping it that way, only in protecting its citizens from terrorism. If Palestinians started negotiating and were actually willing to make some concessions, then they would have a state. But, they want all of Israel. That's a problem.
