Ok, yes the Pat Foss. Been aboard her. The story goes it was found in Hawaii by a son who diverted Foss company money to buy it. Then mom (Pat) found out. She had it shipped back to the mainland and fitted out to her design . As to the Trimmerships. I did not have a true Trimmership. Mine was contract built for USCG. When i got it, on the hard, it was all original. Even the aft cabin was bare . The canvas bunks had been removed. An elect head had been added. I have one pic of it.
@michaelpilot1000 There were two Shain Patrol boats built and launched in 1942, with the other 48 to be built by several yards in the Seattle/Puget Sound area. Grandy, Ballard, Washington Boat, and others along with Shain, and all on the Shain Commodore Model Trimmership lines.. Shain called all of his boats Trimmerships, a name he used to honor his first job in Yakima as a "trimmer" in an upholstery shop. The Coast Guard Museum in Seattle & Pacific Motor Boat Magazine have details too.
Hello, well the Shain was built in 1942, Required a solid yr of restore.40% rotted n damage. It was built for USCG. Total of 50 built around the Lake Washington area for patrol needs. This one served in AK. It was not a yacht. Very basic . Ed Monk 50 ft hull was selected by Navy after seeing example being built at the time. Only about 3 still exist. This boat was sold. The new owner stripped her of all brass and left adrift. DNR found her and took to Olympia Boat Yard to the hard. It was cut up.
@michaelpilot1000 Thee are quite a few of them left actually. I just saw another one last weekend on the ship canal. Some friends of mine own the Pat Foss which was also one of the early "Commodore Modlel Trimmerships". The first one was the 1939 Spindrift, the first yacht taken at the start of WWII in the Seattle area. Monk was running Shains yard for him when the war broke out. Thanks for the info.
The pianist was actually born about the same time as the Gwendolyn was launched. He owns the Cle Illahee, a 1929 Vic Franck. I got a 1941/45 Shain, Forevermore, launched as Copro II for Fred Dobbs. Which Shain did you have?

Kinda wish the music was closer to the era of each boat here.
I have owned and restored the following, 50 ft 1942 Shain, 30 ft 1958 Out O' Gloucester and 32 ft 1969 Grand Banks.
