  • what kind of rope is a good rope to use? i bought diamond-braid poly rope that says it supports 244lbs, but it also says not to use for stuff like this. help?

  • How do you attach the ladder to an object such as a tree branch to climb up?

  • OMG. So I defiantly love this video. I made this and it defiantly supports my weight coming from a 2 story building. Using this and a lot of knots I looked up I am now able to sneak out of my room upstairs and get back up... Not to mention that I can store this ladder easily and sneakily. It also looks bad ass.

  • @GBFlury hahaha that's exactly what I was gonna do with the one I made

  • @GBFlury Gary! This is your father. If you even think about climbing out of your 2 story window I will make sure to cut the rope when your 1/4 the way down.

  • Thank you very much for your video, it was very helpful just finished my rope ladder 4.30 m long 14 steps!keep up the good work! ;)

  • Yeah now I can sneak our at night from my second story window thanks brah

  • ninja ladder

  • Very interesting video. Something I have not seen before on youtube that is not really boring for me to keep searching. Wonderful and consise demonstration of how to make a ladder from rope.

  • I suggest adding some sort of weight at the bottom of the ladder. This will keep it straight, and will make it easier to climb in the wind.

  • great video man, this is the quickest and easiest way i have found to make one! thanks!! =D

  • I think this method is too slow. Is there a faster one?

  • what would you do to attach it to a balcony to where it wouldnt fall if you were to climb down on it? sort of like a fire escape you did an amazing job.

  • just a question, but it can hold like human weight right? and how much rope would i need to get down from a second story window?

  • THANKS FOR THE GREAT VID MATE IV JUST MADE ONE WITH ME SIS BF AND IT WORKS GREAT CHEESSSS

  • Once you're done with rungs, how do you tie off the ends?

  • great vid, just a thought. add a stick in with the ropes before you coil around to make the step stronger ? what do you think ?

  • selfmadesailor, i love you.

  • I liked this video and used it to make a ladder for my tree house but something I learned was that if you rap the rungs/steps with electrical tape it makes them stronger.

  • this is a really cool and useful method to make a ladder, but it does take up a lot of rope. it wouldn't be much use in an emergency but great for tree houses! :p

  • Dude! You just saved me a buttload of money in not having to buy an expensive chair or rent a crane. Climbed the mast with a $30 spool of rope. You ROCK!

  • Ive been looking into rope ladders, the ones with sticks in them and even some wire ones with metal bars on them but something about this kind of rope is just appealing in its basic look, also lighter no doubt... Can't wait to pick up a length and make my ladder now!

  • i left too much in the loop at the top... is it ok to cut that loop and start working backwards? also... i didnt really adjust the rungs when i was making it and they're very lopsided... is there a way to fix it after you've already done the whole ladder?

  • after u started the bight was the right side longer in total length? b/c it seems that u use much more line from the right hand side then the left hand side? Could u alternate sides for each rung meaning folding from the left side then the right side on the next rung? 5 Star video!

  • well the length of the ladder depends on the rung size as well as the girth of the rope....i am made one with super fat rope and it turned out awesome (i forgot how many feet of rope i started with sorry....I also think i used a slightly diff method wiht two different ropes/lines).

  • Its me again, sorry for double posting,

but which or these types of rope is more sturdy

    Braided polypropalene

    Twisted " "

    Braided Nylon

    Twisted " "

  • Hey Selfmadesailor,

How many feet of rope do you think it take to make a rope ladder [using the method in this video of yours, (which is a great video)] - that is approx. 10 feet?

  • Hi megachickena, The rope Dave used in the video was 45 feet and made six or seven rungs. It depends how wide you have the rungs and how far apart they are. We suggest you practice with the rope you want to use and then extrapolate to determine how long the final rope should be. It uses a lot of rope. Angi

  • what if i wana make a ladders thats 12ft ... how long would that be ?

  • Hi sniperboy, Dave used a 45 foot rope for the ladder in this video and it didn't make too many rungs. I suggest that you try a length of rope and make a short ladder. You can then adjust the width of the rungs or distance between them which suit you and then multiply it out to determine how much rope you would need for the final ladder. Angi

  • Excellent. I have now made two rope ladders for my boat, just in case I should I fall off. Incidentally, rope ladders are not difficult to climb if you get the technique right. Thanks.

  • Hey, thank you for posting this video. My housemates and I are looking to build a rope ladder so we can easily climb our yard's trees. I can't wait to try your method!

  • Very good video, after surviving a house fire where the fire commisioner told us that we had a less than 5% chance of escaping, we know that having a PLAN saved our lives. This rope could save the lives of those who do not have access to a roof or ladder in an emergency; nice job!

  • Hi Mfitz, In fact, last fall Dave built one, attached a line to it which would un-roll it easily, as well as a Fox40 whistle, and placed it in the slip beside us in the marina (where we live full-time). The previous month, a man had fallen in and drowned; we thought he might have had a chance had there been something for him to grab. Reaching up to grab a cleat and get out of the water, when weighed down by all your clothing, would be difficult, but grabbing the ladder would be easy. Angi

  • Sooo its strong enough to hold my weigt??h

  • Would it be difficult to climb this ladder?

  • Hi Peoplethought - It depends on how it's set up. If the standing ends at the bottom are secured, it should be fairly easy. If it's attached only at the top, it can be a challenge if you don't have good upper-body strength - on a boat, your legs tend to follow the hull's shape and extend under the boat unless you're in decent shape or the boat is moving - the water pressure when moving will actually make it easy to climb. I've used this on my own boats successfully for several years though.

  • Who would have thought. Awesome video man.

  • good knot man your knot is like the best in the world i mean like i watched this video of some guy who made a video on a rope ladder too but it sucked the name of the person is nuggets of something i kind of forgot but yours is the best man! i give u infinite/infinite stars i even subscribed, commented, rated, and thats it

  • Probably the greatest YouTube commenter of this generation.

  • Always wise to stock up on rope knowledge and skills. Forget gold investing, even when the market is dying, rope skills never de value !

  • Love it! Not only do you make it look so easy, but your instructions actually make it easy. Thanks so much. As a mom of two boys, we all thank you!

  • Hi MelissaFlipski,

Thanks for your nice comment - It's great to hear when people find our videos to be useful. I hope you and your boys have fun with it!

  • Great vids, keep em coming!

  • Wow i could actually follow this! awesome! thanks!

  • thanks mate

your video helped us make a ladder for our tree house

  • amazing what you can do with some rope haha
