  • this is indian music....real shit! so hard to play anyways! give him props

  • Where is the Groove ? Its a Tabla Solo,lol........

  • HE'S SLAPPING WITH HIS FINGERS

  • hes no victor wooten

  • evan brewer is the shit!

  • Awesome sound!

  • This isn't bass playing, it's "tabla-bass" slapping'

  • This isn't bass playing, it's "tabla-bass" slappin'

  • It´s like the typewriter technique invented by the best mother fucker in the world:

    JOHN ENTWISTLE!!!!

  • amazing, he has his own technique to slap bass..

  • @faiz10march its not his own technique is called tabla slapping

  • I slappa da bass!

  • 5 stringed bass? 5 STRINGED BASS?!?! RRAAAAAGHHH

  • @benoyster999 The best kind.

  • slap that bASS

  • thats great....but can you do it with a sitar?

  • Infact i just realised you didnt, nevermind! :p

  • If its not a demo of fastest bass playing why put it in the title.....

  • As I watched this vid again, I realized his style of playing (w/the right hand) is actually two fingerstyles: 1)Flamenco (the style I referred to in my comment last week) and 2) Tapping-as opposed to traditional tapping on the mid and upper registers of the fretboard, Varma's simply tapping in the same area that most bassists normally strike when using conventional pop&slap style. I think he has good command and execution of these techniques.

  • SLAPPAADAAAAA BASSSSSSSSS

  • This is pretty cool. My guess as to his technique would have to be super-low action

  • hmm...i have been playing this way for over 20 years now.......

  • This dude is FUNKY! I can dig it...

  • how is he slapping like that

  • @iamcool632 if u read the description then u would see that he is playing it in a style based off of another instrument

  • @iamcool632 A combination of ridiculously low action, ridiculously light string gauge, and really fucking strong fingers.

  • 0:33 Walk Don't Run?

  • This puts regular guitar players to shame. such as myself :(

  • @ZerFrozenJared I don't even consider myself a guitar player after seeing this. :(

  • yes.. but, will it blend?

  • All of the styles this guy plays & demonstrates are derivative of the 'flamenco style' of bass playing. Not really 'slap bass' as the obscure voice refers to a cpl times thruout the vid.

Either way, this guy has good chops and is interesting to watch. I walked away ready to try out some of his licks.

    Cheers!, Jayen!

  • It's like he's using Tabla technique. I'm not really into the music though. It's quite mechanical

  • @KingBlood074 its music to all ears... dipshit...

  • For slapping go to 0:46

    :D

  • Arghhhh stop cutting the camera

  • @baldrbraa i feel your pain im 30 seconds in and now i give up lol

  • proud of INDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sure he plays also tabla or other indian percussion...

  • music to my ears!!!!

  • my speakers dont have the range for this the bass is murdering them slowly as the video progresses

  • He is using tabla fingering and striking patterns.

  • "slap bass"

  • @AliHassanJ He holds the world record, but this isn't his world record performance.

  • dude uyou just totally relaxed my whole day THANK YOU!!!!

  • am I the only one who hates the camera movements here? Oo but the guy's awesome:]

  • Sounds a bit like Primus I think.

  • the most dome player i ever see

  • you sux

  • sounds like a nirvana song!

  • @777thechamp Ohhhh!!!! I get it. like how nirvana is from an indian religion, and that it was also a band, but the dude is indian.

  • indian slap bass sound like normal slap bass

  • HOW CAN HE SLAP?

  • @negroller lool i only just got that

  • @negroller hitting with the fingers with the palm :)

  • Can you guys please stop by my channel? I've got some bass vids up that i could use some feed back on. thanks! :)

  • especially Tabla/Mridangam players can easly do this

  • Not that being fast is the point. If anything, the point in bass playing is to be groovy. With all respect, his playing is not very clean and sometimes messy. The patterns he's getting out of that technique sound exactly like those Wooten and King play. But with proper bass technique they would sound much cleaner. There are too many unwanted harmonics . Not bad, but there's a lot to improve. Sorry.

  • I bet this would sound good if it wasn't recorded so hot.

  • Nirvana?

  • SLAPADABASS MON!

  • I like how the 0:56 technique looks like he is playing the India Tablas...

  • what is the first song he is playing its also played aat the end of the vid. seriously someone tell me ive been trying to figure it out for weeks now!!!

  • and in comes les claypool

  • wow cool way of slapin a bass

  • Different means to the same end.. Not as well defined as using the thumb though.

  • fuck there is some amazing talent out there

  • I might be able to tell what he's doing if the camera would stop fucking moving.

  • 0_0 Holyyy shittt

  • that is one cool bass, anyone know what make it is?

  • @MrBass894 its a shine dude, check it out on ebayyy

  • u r the king

  • cool

  • why do all indian dudes have mustaches - theyre like 20 years behind..

  • @RedneckChexMix maybe they're 20 years ahead, ever think about that?

  • why do all indian dudes have moustaches - theyre like 20 years behind..

  • @RedneckChexMix because its part of the culture. not everything is westernized.

  • great expression

  • Mark Kingof Level 42 has been slapping the bass like this for longer then 20 years, and plays a hell of a lot faster to!!

  • les claypool.

  • Didn't know Red Hot Chili Peppers did instrumentals

  • 2:33 i know that beat what is it from?!!! thats gonna drive me nuts now!

  • There's only three comments due to the fact that this guy's actually good, and no one has anything bad to say.

  • quite a trippy looking headstock

  • Intro is Megadeth?

  • It's actually a little similar to a Louis Johnson technique that he called 'spanking'. I wonder how many of the uber bassists actually sought the "worlds fastest" record. I feel that if Victor Wooten or Bill Dickens actually sought such a thing they would school Mr Varma on speed. I think his original approach to his right hand technique is far more novel than his "speed"

  • He play bass like tablas...

  • Extremely cool, but referring to this style of play as "slap" is very misleading.

  • HOW CAN HE SLAP

  • this is by far the worst camera work I have ever seen.

  • Great to see an Indian Bass player - Jayen Rocks!

  • interesting technique. too bad he doesn't have the creatiivity to use it to play anything meaningfull.

  • This is awesome!

  • Coool! !!

  • Wow... bassist could really learn a lot from his playing

  • how does he slap bass with his fingers like this :O

  • @iConverseMyLife It's more of a matter of personal taste, kind of like why some guitarists are fingerstyle guitarists instead of pick guitarists. Geddy Lee uses the same strumming style to play 16th notes on his bass. It might be that holding his hand open over the strings feels more natural than the 'thumb-index finger' slap technique.

  • @iConverseMyLife I don't know if you've ever seen someone play Tabla, but they're a kind of drum, played (usually) with almost the exact same right hand technique that this guy uses to slap. If that helps.

  • @iConverseMyLife he play's the strings using the same technique as would be applied by a tabla player.

  • @iConverseMyLife I tried and it hurt like hell Dx

  • @iConverseMyLife

it's more like tapping in a way, I use the same technique at time.......look at Ryan Martinie from the Alternative Metal group, Mudvayne....he uses the same technique

  • @iConverseMyLife hes not using his thumb i used to do it using my whole hand i mean i literally slapped the thing until i started watching flea a little more

  • @iConverseMyLife HOW CAN HE SLAP?! HOW CAN HE SLAP SIR?!

  • @Phelyp84 How Can He Slap!!!!! Good call....

  • @iConverseMyLife it's the same concept as playing a tabla.... index finger is sort of like one drumstick, the middle and ring finger are like another drumstick, and you rotate your hand to bring each one up and down

  • @iConverseMyLife He's asian that's why

  • @iConverseMyLife It's like thumbing as in normal slap bass... just with all fingers (:

  • @iConverseMyLife : In Indian music instrument, there is TABLA which is played by tapping fingers of both hands to create melodious musics, it is same technique used here on Bass guitar. That is why it is known as 'Indian slap bass'

  • @iConverseMyLife He applied the tabla finger technique on the bass... really amazing !
