There's a ranch in South Dakota that has a well like this. They use some sort of separator and use the methane to heat their house. You might have a source of free heat!
The problem, folks, is not "fracking." The problem is the drilling company that decides to be unprofessional and cut corners on their spending budget. The bigger companies do not do this. What about Drain-O? So much more costic and goes RIGHT to the water supply...how about when I change the oil on my car? As a good "environmentalist," one would put it in a pan, then put it in a drain...that goes TO THE WATER supply. Fine. Let's pay Iran for oil. Wait, we don't want to do that either? :(
Thank your nice friendly natural gas company! And President Bush who said they don't have to comply with drinking water regulations...even though they're injecting those chemicals deep into the ground!
If you look closely, you can see the water stop flowing when it catches on fire. Since gases are dissolved in water, this shows a pocket of methane is flowing out of the faucet. Chemically speaking, this is impossible. The only cause is that these people manually injected methane into their water. If the methane was as a result of hydraulic fracturing, the methane would he dissolved into the water in ppm so low it could not burn like this. This is chemical fact.
@Yamaltu What you're saying is true. The water has dissolved methane in it which is even visible when running water into a clear glass. (The water is cloudy at first and clears up within 15 seconds). The scary thing is that when this water is heated under pressure, (in this case by the water heater) it can separate the dissolved gas into larger pockets of methane. This is why in the video the hot water line is used and also why it takes a moment before it ignites.
@Yamaltu try again. you don't know how dissolved gasses work. Remember diet cola and menthos? There's very little CO2 in diet cola, but it's enough to release a /huge/ amount of gas.
Furthermore, remember that the water is under pressure. The curve you are remembering is for atmospheric pressure.
@JohnRiemannSoong practical straightens out the book learned with little experience; good job and this happens _all the time_ with politics and religion including christianity, green energy, etc.
@kalphitekil how's about stop being so defensive and understand what I'm trying to say. LeFrak is a special interest group that is an advocate for natural gas. It's a known fact that special interest groups use public domains in order to defend their stances openly like what it seems Yamaltu is attempting to do. I was suggesting to you that there's no point in trying to sway his opinion because he's probably aware that he's misinforming people who read this.
@oOeinTeddyOo well its not suppose to burn so unless a gas company drills near you it won't work and he got the idea from the news ( Nun, es ist eigentlich nicht so brennen, wenn ein Gas-Unternehmen bohrt in Ihrer Nähe wird es nicht funktionieren, und er habe die Idee aus den Nachrichten)
LoL. I love how everyone seems to think that the gas companies are the root of this problem when in reality it just happens in some parts of the country. Good luck though. I would probably try to harness the power somehow, but hopefully you get it sorted out.
I saw this on Galileo, a knowledge tv program in Germany... I feel bad for the people living in your area : ( I hope this will not happen to other areas as well.
Doesn't your government do any sort of action on this case? They should at least try tasting the water and see themselves if it's contaminated.
I find it very strange that there are no dislikes for this video... just to clarify, this is NOT a good thing, you DON'T want this to happen in your home
What tipped you off that your faucet was even flammable to begin with? I mean, were you taking a shit and fiddling with a lighter or something? One just doesn't walk up to the bathroom faucet out of the blue attempting to ignite it, obviously.. SOOO, what tipped you off to this spectacle?
You shouldn't light it!!!
