Here's something to consider: if schools teaching about gay marriage, and churches being forced to agree with it are happening, then amend the constitution to change THAT. You don't have to change marriage.

I think 'four San Francisco judges' is an inaccurate characterization that diminishes the importance and legitimacy of that original marriage ruling... especially because a lot of people didn't realize that it was the CA Supreme Court and not some random lower court (with liberal 'San Francisco values') that made the ruling.

Also about churches "being forced" to marry same sex couples. They arent. But many churches do force for people to change their religion if they want to marry. Like most rabbis wont marry a non-jew, making them convert to judaism.
And actually, judges are supposed to change the laws that the majority passes, if they are unconstitutional. Thats one of the main reasons judges have so much power in this country, is to protect the rights of the minority from the majority opinion. Thats what happened in Brown vs. Board of education.
Don't we elect officials like judges because they are 1. more educated 2. understand the law better 3. don't give in to the demands of the citizens. But why shouldn't they? Your right. They should. That way we could still have slaves because even today there are people who are still of that opinion when it comes to blacks. If religious freedoms are to interfere with the teachings of tolerance then yes I think that is good. No child is too young or immature to learn of tolerance.

What it MEANS is that all are free to practice their beliefs, whatever they may be, as long as they do not harm others. If you disapprove of gay marriage, that affects no one, but by voting it into law, you have hurt others with your beliefs while at the same time restricting their right to practice their own which would have no effect on you.

Let me spell it out for you: the CA Supreme Court was characterized as 'four SanFran judges' implying they were liberal activist judges... when, in reality, they were mostly Republican appointees - meaning that they are likely more moderate. As for education, the CA Education Code allows for broad interpretation. Despite Prop 8 passing, schools are still able to teach about same-sex couples, same-sex families, and same-sex marriage... teaching about diverse families is generally valued in California. Also, since same-sex marriage is legal in MA, CT, and some countries, schools can still teach that same-sex marriage is an option for students. See how that works? What it MEANS is that all are free to practice their beliefs, whatever they may be, as long as they do not harm others. If you disapprove of gay marriage, that affects no one, but by voting it into law, you have hurt others with your beliefs while at the same time restricting their right to practice their own which would have no effect on you.

Despite Prop 8 passing, schools are still able to teach about same-sex couples, same-sex families, and same-sex marriage... teaching about diverse families is generally valued in California.
