I think it sounds rather good myself. Youtube is not known for it's good audio quality, so I think it sounds great considering. Also, if you throw an eq at it you can tweak your sound even more. Nice clean build, man. Love it. Keep it up!
i believe that this sounds better in actual, however it doesnt sound good on youtube.. maybe you could upload another with better recording?.. nice project btw
@bancika Metallica uses the Mark IIC+, actually I think they use several of them. I used to have one, and damn was it loud. EQ sliders were really finicky, tiny adjustments seemed to drastically change the tone. Pay no mind to dusted04's comment, you should be commended for even starting this project and twice more for finishing it. A demo video where you show off the myriad of tone settings would be awesome.
@bancika Truthfully They both have amazing tones, I'm not digging the way you've recorded this. Its way to flat and muffled that's the problem, but that;s just my opinion which is just beans. Your "sound/tone" does sound like it could be good if recorded right.
@maczepa thanks for the feedback, yeah, I'm just starting to get into recording and these are done very soon after I built the preamp. It always takes a while before you get to the sweet spot, so maybe I should have waited more :) And I definitely need to get to know more about recording
@bancika Something to check out are some of my Videos my channel. I have a Mark V, tell me what you think of the tone, and ignore the playing Haha!! Thanks!
Your builds and the diy-fever site is a great inspiration for us, fellow diy-ers :)
I'm currently attempting to build a MkIIc+ replica using jFets. My Dr .Boogey turned out (with minor tweeks) really good, but the "boogeyman" leaves lots of room for improvement ;)
I don't think jfet version of IIc+ could come as close to the real deal as dr boogey to recto. Recto is kinda harsh and solid state components are good at it, while IIc+ is more "organic". It could sound good in it's own right though, definitely worth trying.
@bancika yeah, that transistor harshness doesn't really hurt that type of metal sound :) Well I own Mesa Quad (and 50/50) which come pretty close to MkIIC+, so I have something to compare. I doubt that I will be able to replicate that smooth "organic" sound, but I agree - It is worth trying. At the end, my goal isn't to clone mesa, but to experiment, learn new things, make new sounds.... If something worth posting comes out of it, I'll make a video and share the schematic ;)
hi, I haven't done anything to control the temperature. Preamp tubes aren't very hot, I've tried touching all the components nearby and nothing gets too hot.
i don't like the sound..my behringer sm400 sounds way better..

This sounds great! Very 70's vintagey type rock sound. How much was that to build and how long did it take? Looks like a fun project :)

@bancika what mods have you made, besides the normal schematic? What do they do?
