last 2 'vayne albums are goin' softer indeed...in fact I don't see something bad in this...think it's a natural evolution to put more melodic components in new releases....personally I liked "L&F" the most.
The New Game album is indeed more commercially rock oriented than the last 2. Personally it appears to me that they pulled it off and achieved a very heavy rock album as the drummer described. As even a deathmetal fan, I can say they really don't have "that sellout sound" anywhere on the new record. The production team they worked with really helped. It's a good heavy commercial rock album. Surprisingly!

The more songs and albums Mudvayne comes out with the softer and more meaningful gentleness comes out. I think by 2012 We'll see them playing hymns in churches and hell, maybe even barber shops if those are still around. Chad's bleeding heart is starting to get a little gay. I'm a Mudvayne fan but everytime a record is released i find myself likeing less and less songs on the album, so i guess i'll start seeing them at church pretty soon and not concerts anymore.
I wouldn't go that far. obviously kidding i hope. but you have to admit, they are getting softer, but songs like Happy?, Have it your way, fish out of water, and a new game are still pretty freakin awesome songs.
Yeah, of course i'm kidding when i say that. But whenever it comes up, (Mudvayne going soft) everyone always brings up the one song "Happy?", I haven't heard enough songs from a new game but i hear it's pretty good, It's only my opinion but i prefer songs that make you feel like bashing in someone's skull, or just something that'll unleash the beast. They did go a bit more 'down to earth' with this album. Lost and Found is awesome, that album is actually very reminiscent of LD.50 if you ignored the production - Songs like 'Pushing Through' and 'Choices' could have fit on LD50 if you imagined it in that production.
This album seems to be a little too commercial though...considering the standard of their first two albums, I enjoy this one the least.
I don't see the point in comparing the two bands.. Mudvayne and Hellyeah are - like Chad said - completely separate entities. I think it's unfair to compare the two.
On terms of this being 'more rock' - mudvayne have never tried to BE anything. rock has many roots and many, many sounds, so sounding 'more rock' is - in my opinion - impossible. You can sound heavier, but not 'more rock'.

I love Mudvayne for the awkward sound. The sound that made people think that they're math metal. The simple heavy guitar riff, the crazy bass line, the crazy drums and the variations in chad's awesome voice which made you feel a million ways in 3 minutes of music... but now that's not the case anymore but i still love them because the only thing that changed in the new album is that there's more guitar and chad's voice isn't that variable anymore. they still ROCK!!!!!

honestly i think he's been losing it. i cant say much tho i've got the whole hair line thing going on too, but i think thats why he's kept it short for so long. lol could be all the dye he's used in it
i think people need to realize, if they appreciate a band, that..its good for that band to change. that shows that the people involved in it are changing and growing. you cant stay the same, that's fear of new experience and fear of things you dont know. this is showing that these four guys are great individuals who are growing and expanding their horizons. for themselves and for their music. absolutely all of my appreciation goes to these guys.
Mudvayne never talks about their old rap ghetto/gangsta days, they were primarily a rap group when they started, kinda mixed with metal but lots of rapping. Songs like Dig and Nothing to Gein are pretty much rap songs, yes they have guitars and there's some melody but none-the-less seems to fit more in the rap genre.
they were never really a "rap" band specifically. they were a "nu-metal" band. nu-metal bands usually mix hip hop or rapped verses with hard rock. even then, they still didn't rap that much.
interestingly enough, they were probably one of the more interesting nu-metal bands around.
don't forget technical. most of martinie's bass playing in LD50 and TEOATTC were insane. and the drummer's variety and use of odd time signatures is something any drummer should be able to appreciate.
it's a shame mudvayne doesn't have a better guitarist though. as it stands, 3 of the 4 members are talented. they'd be an amazing hard rock band if they tightened up the guitars (i still like them though). here's hoping tribbet doesn't continue play boring riffs in the new album.
Greg Tribbet is an amazing guitar player, its his role in the band, he's a rhythm guitar player, so that ryan can play lead bass, trapes off with soapbox under arm
that may be true. but i have yet to see tribbets true talents still. his guitar playing in hell yeah wasn't all that great either.
i just wish he would display at least a modicum of range in his playing. the solo in the new song is good, but his guitar playing in fish out of water and a new game seems pretty dull.

as much as i like mudvayne, they were never really metal. they were slightly progressive in LD50, and TEOATTC was great too. but they became a radio friendly band with Lost and Found.

Alright first things first. Yes, math metal. Chord progression and drum beats are based of mathematical equations... Look it up on illwillpress. Either way, it's bullshit. This is the 'most rock' album yet? Why don't you find Kill I Aughta, or fuck, even L.D. 50's harder than A New Game. Mudvayne's the shit, and I love A New Game, but it's not the most rock. Besides, HELLYEAH's a lot harder than A New Game could ever dream to be.

Mudvayne never disappoints...EVER. I don't understand you Mudvayne "fans" that say the new album sucks. Of course L.D. 50 and The End Of All Things To Come are waaaaaaaaaay better than their new stuff, but just because The New Game doesn't sound like their old stuff doesn't make it bad. lol, i just commented a mudvayne video saying that they are transitioning into different branches of music like metallica, but doing alot better job of it. yea this album should be called load, but still they do have heavy stuff in here, and it doesnt matter cause i think next album will be much heavier.

He used to be good in live. In the beginning. In studio you can mix the growls and use popper-stopper 'nd shit but to growl live messes up the vocal chords. Believe me, I know. :)

One thing I hate is when people criticize a band for attempting something different. Mudvayne has the talent and the stamina (Like Slipknot) to stick around years after Metal reinvents itself again.
Have we all forgotten about the bland hair metal of the 80's that almost killed this genre?
If not for Pantera, and the bands that followed (Like Sevendust), we would still be listening to crappy grunge musicians attempting to be the next Kurt Cobain.

I love Mudvayne for the awkward sound. The sound that made people think that they're math metal. The simple heavy guitar riff, the crazy bass line, the crazy drums and the variations in chad's awesome voice which made you feel a million ways in 3 minutes of music... but now that's not the case anymore but i still love them because the only thing that changed in the new album is that there's more guitar and chad's voice isn't that variable anymore. they still ROCK!!!!!

i think people need to realize, if they appreciate a band, that..its good for that band to change. that shows that the people involved in it are changing and growing. you cant stay the same, that's fear of new experience and fear of things you dont know. this is showing that these four guys are great individuals who are growing and expanding their horizons. for themselves and for their music. absolutely all of my appreciation goes to these guys.

Mudvayne never talks about their old rap ghetto/gangsta days, they were primarily a rap group when they started, kinda mixed with metal but lots of rapping. Songs like Dig and Nothing to Gein are pretty much rap songs, yes they have guitars and there's some melody but none-the-less seems to fit more in the rap genre.

they were never really a "rap" band specifically. they were a "nu-metal" band. nu-metal bands usually mix hip hop or rapped verses with hard rock. even then, they still didn't rap that much.
interestingly enough, they were probably one of the more interesting nu-metal bands around.

don't forget technical. most of martinie's bass playing in LD50 and TEOATTC were insane. and the drummer's variety and use of odd time signatures is something any drummer should be able to appreciate.
it's a shame mudvayne doesn't have a better guitarist though. as it stands, 3 of the 4 members are talented. they'd be an amazing hard rock band if they tightened up the guitars (i still like them though). here's hoping tribbet doesn't continue play boring riffs in the new album.

i just wish he would display at least a modicum of range in his playing. the solo in the new song is good, but his guitar playing in fish out of water and a new game seems pretty dull.

as much as i like mudvayne, they were never really metal. they were slightly progressive in LD50, and TEOATTC was great too. but they became a radio friendly band with Lost and Found.
i personally hope this album will have more in common with LD50 and TEOATTC rather than LaF.

i didn't mean i want the new album to be exactly similar to LD50. i just hope they bring back some of the interesting musicianship that was present in LD50 (the technical and progressive side at least).
i personally like both do what you do and fish out of water, but it seems to have a lot in common with LaF, which was the weakest mudvayne album. but i do agree that they should make something different with each album.
