Went to Rutgers/Newark and me and the boys would drop by JJ's on the way home cuz we had the munchies after drinking way too much beer. Truly lovely hotdogs with fantastic chili and onions. Where else can you get a C&C cola on the run?
About 25 years ago when JJ ( the owner ) and his son Joey were on the truck, my cousin and I went to get a couple of dogs and my cousin didn't like the hot dog because he said the chili tasted like shit, so he threw the hot dog ( chili and all ) at JJ and it hit him in the side of his face with it. I wonder if JJ remembers that. ( If he's still alive that is ) LOL
Thanks for the upload, I use to stop at JJ's one in the morning when I use to deliver to the Home Depot. They were always there. My Dad told me way back the reason they were there was because they ran numbers back in the day. Don't know if it was true or not. JJ's isn't the best but what makes them great is you always know they are there. Weather it's 4PM or 4AM.
Let's not forget Tony's Hotdogs corner of Lake Street and Park Avenue in Newark. Been there for years and are my favorite. Always a lot of people and they have three workers on the truck. Chili dogs are worth the trip. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.
Well Boulevard Drinks in Jersey City is pretty good. Their hotdogs are true Sabrett dogs. That's what JJ's had, but for some reason JJ went to a poorer quality dog. There was a place in North Bergen that had GREAT dogs. Manny's dog house. He sold the business and the new guy went to a non Sabrett dog. Within 6 months he had to close up shop.
I've been going to JJ's for over 20 years. I haven't been there in about 2 years, so I stopped there Thursday Sept 6th 2007. I ordered 9 Belly Busters and as soon as they made the first one I knew something was wrong. I tasted the first one and confirmed what I suspected. They went from real Sabrett hotdogs to something else. How can someone ruin a business, .... ? Sell shoprite dogs and say they are Sabrett. Stay away the place is not what it was.
I took 1 bite and spit it out. Paid the kid 2 bucks and threw the rest of it in the trash. The 8 other dogs, ... give them to some mutt who doesn't know the difference between ShopRite dogs and Sabrett.
hey CommShop that's too bad...I don't know much about the belly busters, but haven't had a problem with what i usually order, 2 with onions, chilli, kectchup and mustard. I still think they're great, a little too hot for me and my wife but we can handle it, just as long as there's a can of soda nearby, if you know what i mean. Do you know of a any other great hot dog place? I might just be able to stop by and make a video on them?
FYI since I imagine that if you love hot dogs, you must love pizza. There is a place called Star Tavern in Orange. They make a pizza that is just THE BEST!!
Fanstastic...man, now I want a Hot Dog...and what's up with that, JJ is my name!! Thanks Bro...I can always count on you to make me feel at home even when I'm not...Love ya!

JJ's, wow memories. Lets see, maybe 1970 to the year I moved in 2003. B DiCat must have eaten well over ten thousand of his hotdogs.
