To say that Pink Floyd, a druggy band that attracted a cult of drug users, was the best of their time, is absurd. U2 is a completely different class of music. Firstly, many if not most of the lyrics have a deeply Christian meaning to them. Secondly, the beauty of Bono's voice combined The Edge's one of a kind, yet Irish in its origins, cannot be paralleled. The Beatles fell to pieces after what 9-10 years because of the idiot Yoko Ono and Lennon's ego. NOTHING compares to U2.

I like u2, but I like R.E.M.also..hard to say which is most meaningful,best etc. Music always brings emotions and moods and they change within me all the time. I definitly have room for both bands and many more..is it wrong to appreciate Barbara Striesand also?? One questions the pomposity we attach to tunes. I feel its a personal journey and timing can be a big part of what is attached to music. On a personal level, I think all music sounds great if you finger your own ass as you listen to it.

I think some of you guys miss the point of a "band". U2 as a collective are bigger than the sum of the parts. That is what makes individual band special. The Beatles and The Stones same rule applies. Fact is that U2 are still making new music and are relevant to today as much as they were back in the late 70s when they started. That is an extraordinary achievement. This has been achieved by the the collective not by four individuals........... and that's pretty special.
