I'm driving an 1988 190D with 2.0 L engine, and it;s more reliable then any modern car my friends have. It may not be fast, but it gets me wherever I need to, with the ASD on board I never got stuck in snow, no matter how slippery it was...

And it beats ANY modern car in terms of comfort. I love this car, and I'll drive it FOREVER!! :) It's a fucking classic, and I love it dearly ;)

my 2.3 8v is running perfectly with 289.924km on the odometer

and the last service before i bought it was almost 2 years ago!

it's my daily driver and it has not let me down yet :)

@MrBuzzialdrin all depends what engine the 2 litre diesel is identical to the one in the 190d. as far as comfort goes the c class was better (i have driven both)

I have a 190E 2.6 and cruised past 110 mph no problem. The suspension feels as if you're riding in the clouds and not on asphalt. 5/5 star car, definitely a top choice!

For some reason, the 190D model was never offered here in North America (as far as I can tell) with manual shifting transmission. Always automatic.

They're great cars - got a 1993 190E 1.8.. the baby of the range and not the most desirable, but for banger money it has provided reliable, comfortable motoring. Build quality is top drawer too - at 18 years old, mine still feels taut on the road, there's no rattles and the body is virtually rust-free. A proper Merc!

Anyone know at what speed the frontal crash tests were done at?

Nowadays they generally show 64 KPH with a deformable barrier.

These were done with no deformable barriers, so I'm wondering if they were done at like 40 KPH or more? Thanks

A Design Masterpiece by Italian Car Designer Bruno Sacco. In many ways, the 190 was a more desirable and appealing car than the latest C-Class! More simple, less fancy and complicated.

@MRRRKOOLLL I absolutely agree. Modern C-class, W203 in particular has too many feminine lines. Bruno Sacco should make a comeback and design today's Mercedes. These W201, W124, and W126 are so elegant and masculine in look. Merc's have slightly lost its elegance these days.

@anassgame because in the 80s was very expensive to run even the s class of 1980-1991 have versions without airbag it was optional for the driver after the 190e  in 1993 with the c class and the next s class mercedes instal the airbag like a standard equipment for the driver and the passenger in all models that is the reason :)
