What an awesome noise! There's one in the NE Aircraft Musuem near me and in the Imperial War Musuem in Cambridge. The sheer scale of the thing is hard to take in. Deadly-looking stood still and silent, let alone if it was armed and going full pelt. Great video close386, thanks.

we live in cornwall and it was r.n.a.s culdrose air day last week. one of these flew around over our estate and i've never heard a noise like it. it's sooo loud, louder than the euro fighter was the year before and thats a noisy plane too. then the noise stops and it just seems to glide and it's amazingly grafeful to watch.
It was a phenomenal aircraft for it's time. It was as sophisticated as it needed to be as it was really only going to make a one way trip in the event of nuclear war. The aircraft was built on the priciple of total loss, once it had delivered it's bomb load it had done it's job.The pilot and co-pilot were not as expendable as the rest of the crew and it was hoped they would be able to eject safely, as did happen on one or two occasions.

A beautiful aircraft - with a sinfully poor electrical system design. After one of them crashed into a residential neighborhood in East Detroit on October 24, 1958, the electrical system was re-designed to make it more reliable - I lived in Detroit at that time, and that crash is one memory I will carry to the grave. That aircraft should have never gotten off the drawing board with it's original electrical system, let alone it's hopeless ejection system for 3 of the 5 crewmen.
@MelosAntropon You have to remember that this was designed in the early 50's - ejection systems, jet engines, and electrical control systems aboard aircraft were all brand new concepts. In reality it should of been nothing but a proof of concept aircraft , so they could of taken the lessons learned to make a more reliable craft. But cost + necessity of having a long range jet bomber immediately forced it into mass production.
My understanding from a senior team member is that Vulcan has about 4 yrs max befor it will have to be retired, due to another major refurb being required which will simply be too expensive, so make the most of it Ladies & Gents..

@bazman85 Just cause he unfairly insulted the Vulcan, a great aircraft that fell victim to politics, is no reason to go calling the B-52, another great aircraft, a "hunk of shit." B-52s are relatively cheap to operate and perfect for the way wars are fought today, and in the Cold War no aircraft was perfect for the strategic mission, hence why they found themselves replaced by damned missiles and submarines. Besides, the term "paper sack" is best description of any American air defense system.

@AmFearLiathMor sorry cannot locate such a incident on internet must be another urban myth I do know 2 V bombers crashed at air shows in US i believe anyone wanting to watch a V bomber at airshow in US was required to show they had life insurance before entering the air show grounds

@AmFearLiathMor It would take 4 V bombers to carry more bombs then 1 B52 bomber and it was B52 bombers that flew the operation chrome dome missions right outside the border of soviet union ready to nuke the russkies. The B52 owns just about every bomber record only jet bomber with air to air kill (2migs) carp[et bombing something V bomber not capable of. US bombers dropped over 75% of bombs on afghanistan most by B52, and B1 bombers

3) CF130 Hercules doing close up JATO demo
4) F-14 Tomcat
5) Olympus afterburning engine Vulcan which was retired in 1965
6) The Valkyrie which retired in 1969
7) B1 Lancer
8) SR-71 Blackbird
9) British Airways Concorde to close off the Air Show with the best and loudest

I was born in Poynton, 1/4 mile away from Woodford, one of the places they used to fly out of and used to sit on the fence there and watch these babies take off in the 60's!. Most of the houses on our estate had cracks in the walls 'cos of them and the vibration they used to create. Took me back to my roots and childhood, thanks for the video : )

we live in cornwall and it was r.n.a.s culdrose air day last week. one of these flew around over our estate and i've never heard a noise like it. it's sooo loud, louder than the euro fighter was the year before and thats a noisy plane too. then the noise stops and it just seems to glide and it's amazingly grafeful to watch.

It was a phenomenal aircraft for it's time. It was as sophisticated as it needed to be as it was really only going to make a one way trip in the event of nuclear war. The aircraft was built on the priciple of total loss, once it had delivered it's bomb load it had done it's job.The pilot and co-pilot were not as expendable as the rest of the crew and it was hoped they would be able to eject safely, as did happen on one or two occasions.

I remember seeing a vulcan bomber flying at low level around a mountain by Lake Windermere on exorsises when I was 15 in 1975. It was so surreal? Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. It made me feal proud to be British. I can still see it in my mind's eye even now.

The LOUDEST aircraft ever to fly, bar none. Impossible to ignore, and after one flys by, to hear anything after it! But I loved every ear-splitting second of it! I consider myself fortunate to have seen one flown.

A beautiful aircraft - with a sinfully poor electrical system design. After one of them crashed into a residential neighborhood in East Detroit on October 24, 1958, the electrical system was re-designed to make it more reliable - I lived in Detroit at that time, and that crash is one memory I will carry to the grave. That aircraft should have never gotten off the drawing board with it's original electrical system, let alone it's hopeless ejection system for 3 of the 5 crewmen.

@MelosAntropon You have to remember that this was designed in the early 50's - ejection systems, jet engines, and electrical control systems aboard aircraft were all brand new concepts. In reality it should of been nothing but a proof of concept aircraft , so they could of taken the lessons learned to make a more reliable craft. But cost + necessity of having a long range jet bomber immediately forced it into mass production.

My understanding from a senior team member is that Vulcan has about 4 yrs max befor it will have to be retired, due to another major refurb being required which will simply be too expensive, so make the most of it Ladies & Gents..

Actually, from this perspective the Vulcan seems like a larger version of the J35 Draken.
I say this because they are alike in that the air intake is built into the wing.
