  • Being a Vietnam vet and a major GP fan (I've seen him 61 times in concert so far), this song has always been one of my favorites. With sadness, it always reminds me of my friends and comrades who never made it home. But when I go to one of his concerts and he asks all of us vets to stand before he sings this song and I see the other vets both young and old, it gives me a feeling of pride to know there are so many of us who were proud to serve. Many thanks to GP for recognizing us and those lost.

  • beautiful thoughts for our vets today too!

  • I cannot believe that this was not a blockbuster hit for Gary and the band. My words can not do justice to it. The quality of Gary's vocie and the message grabs one in the gut and the heart.

  • I've always thought that Gary Puckett could sing his ass off. Had the privilege of seeing him at a Washington state casino in 2004/05. He mentioned that he was at the Hilton in Vegas with Elvis and I believe opened up for him. Elvis saw him in the aisleway and told him, "You sure can sing!" Elvis, The King, knew talent and was right! Gary, thanks for the memories and for all the beautiful songs ("Just No Getting Over You", "This Girl Is A Woman Now") you and the Union Gap put out ! An era gone!

  • What a moving song.this should be put back on the charts and get air play it would really take off during our times we are now living.i wish i had my own radio station this would be on the top of my list.

  • I don't know why they stopped recording I thought Garry had a wonderful voice

  • Thanks for posting this my older brother served in Vietnam and I remember my moms heartache if a letter was late, everyone seem to have someone over there and too many of them never came home. I pray for all the people serving our country that they may came home safe and sound! I also pray for the families, I still remember how hard it was worrying about some one over there. To all who are or have served I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Again thanks for posting this video.

  • Absolutely beautiful ...thank you

  • Nice touch using the American plane at the end. I came home from the Sand Box, but too many didn't - and too many won't. This fits today much like it did for the Nam era. Does Gary realize the impact he's making even today? They aughta show this at schools around Veteran's Day or Memorial Day. Thanks for the tribute.

  • Gary Pucket is just BRILLIANT...that's all you can say! It breaks my heart that this guy can't get a record deal today. Greatest voice in pop music history! Tom Jones has NOTHING on this guy!

  • to all those who fought to keep us safe i THANK YOU my children THANK YOU my gran children THANK YOU

  • Words cannot describe my tears, my sorrow, my gratitude and my prayers that they All come Home.

  • I remember listening to this song during the Viet Nam War days. It makes me cry. A boy I grew up with died in Viet Nam in 1970 at age of 19. I think of him often. My ex husband was also in the Viet Nam war. We got married right after he got back. I will always remember the hard adjustment he had to coming home. He couldn't sleep at night. What a senseless War.

  • mate - thanks for the post - not often a set of pics can match the sound track so perfectly - - as a person of the 50's remembering all who hah on TV about the war in Vietnam I prayed i did not get selected but my heart went out to those who did and when they returned not only broken in body but in mind too no-one wanted to understand. this song has brought tears to my eyes every time i played it - to all armed forces personnell - stay safe and come home we really appreciate your work

  • be thankful for those who stand in harms way for us!!!!

  • My older sister had all the Gary Puckett's LP's. I used to listen to them, Gary Lewis, Beetles, Elvis, and many more. My wife is so amazed that I can name a song on an oldies station when it comes on. Not amazing, just a good memory and older siblings. I love this old music.

  • To the few who are left, to the many who remember, with the pain in your heart you can only know seeling your friend die, looking to the heavens, so many that did'nt make it home. Does anyone really remember, I guess well never know.

  • @icloudnine I remeber, I will never forget. Worst time to be growing up. I have such pain in my heart, some days I just want to hide. Sad part is, no want wants to talk about it...still!

  • @icloudnine yeah i remember....to the point i wish i didnt .

  • @icloudnine I will never forget, and I was here, in sunny California....but everyday the news got worse.......then "he" came home...never to be the same again.............

  • God Bless and keep us and our children..

  • I bought this album in 1970 when I was living on the island of Jamaica. This was the first time that I heard the song called "HOME". It's very beautiful.

  • My spirit was so broken, and hurt and this had alot to do with it.........what a heartbreaker.

  • Always brings a tear to my eye when I think of the sacrifice of our men and women to maintain our freedom. If you like it-share it into your world. Great performance by Gary Pucket.

  • Beautiful song that brings me a lot of memories as a young man growing up in East New York, Brooklyn in the early 70's. This is what The author of this song portrays in his song, the misery of war and the pain of the innocent relatives left behind. Powerful images! Beautiful song! Thanks for posting it!

  • A wonderful memorial to those who sacrificed for right.

    superoutdoorsmen

  • Wow, such a great video to send to our men overseas. I pray every day for every soldier from every country to "go home" to their loved ones.

  • I first heard this song when I was in Singapore in the days of Vietnam and came across a young American soldier who was on a few days respite from the war zone before going back again. I often think about that young man and wonder if he ever made it home. jim eaton

  • @jteeeeeton and thank you so very much for YOUR service to our country. I lay awake at night, still, and wonder about so many of them, and if they made it home. Viet Nam was bad, today is the same.....

  • @jteeeeeton you're a good man to wonder. that war was hell. so many lives destroyed, so many dreams ruined....innocence lost, reality in their faces....please God take care of them.................and me.

  • @werentthosethedays I second that comment!

  • A senseless waste of good young men and women over a countries politics. When will we ever learn? RIP to all of the people that have passed and God bless and protect all their loved ones.

  • binkle1 -you feel like we all we can relate to this song it's the time when we all had to say bye to our family when we saw the plane leaving the run-way and WHY!!WHY my family had to go to Viet Nam for what?

  • Oh, I forgot all about this song. Enough you to make you sob yourself sick. Only Gary could pull it off without sounding maudlin. OK, I'm officially crying now.

  • well done

  • a lovely song whose continuing relevance is so sad.

  • Thanks very much for posting this song and video. It meant alot to my dad who once served as a staff sgt. in Vietnam and has been looking for this song awhile. Again..Thanks.

I will not ever forget this piece of art.

    Be Water my friend.

  • Magnificent........

  • I hadn't played any of my vinyl LPs in a long time so I was recently looking through them & found Gary Puckett's Greatest Hits & I played it on my turntable. This song brought tears to my eyes. It came out during the Vietnam War. I was overseas, but I can't remember the local AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio & Telivision Services) ever playing this song on the radio. Given what's happening today, it's deja vu all over again. Thanks for posting it & good work with the photos to flow with the song.

  • @readyfreddy2525 thank you for your service to our country.
