They aren't a "dance team." They are a drill team. Huge difference. Ever heard of the Kilgore Rangerettes?....that's who the Dixie Belles are modeled after.
"oh im proud 2 be a dixie belle from southside, cause that is what i truly want to be, and now that im a dixie belle from southside, i know that im the best that i can be!!" shs dixie belle 09-10 :)
Yeah, some girls are hunching pretty badly which takes away from the elegance of high kicks...but it still looks pretty damn good! I can't believe this is high school. Two and a half minutes of kicks? Y'all got some stamina! Keep up the good work. :)
...demanded that a new school be built in their vicinity. Choosing the name Southside High School, they chose the most obvious mascot, the Confederate Rebel, since what they did was "secede" from Northside(which at the time was Fort Smith High School); thus leaving the low income black, hispanic and asian families to attend Northside. If you dont believe this happened, read about 1958 in Little Rock, the white kids their simply refused to go to Central and went to neighboring city's schools.
When researching the history of Southside High School, I discovered the true reason why the school was formed. A newspaper article from 1961 states that a new school must be formed to deal with over-crowding at Northside High School. In 1961, the school had 1,200 students. At the time it was built to hold 1500 students. So this is a sham. The real reason it was formed was because of de-segregation. Many "non-colored folk" moved to the south side of town and...
Southside needs a new mascot, the south lost, move on. It's not racism or anything like that, it's patriotism that i have a problem with...why celebrate the biggest act of treason in United States history? We need a more positive mascot for the school i have to say i went to...
ACTUALLY, there was no treason. The seceding states did nothing to undermine the United States. They merely tried to leave. The government of the United States stopped them. A civil war in any part of the world is NOT treason. It is an attempt to change or alter the government of the nation in question. Otherwise, the American Revolution would also be TREASON. It was not.

They broke an allegience to stay pledged to defending the common good of the United States, by attempting to take back their pledge, they committed the biggest act of treason to the Union in the history of the United States.
actually we exercised our right to secede. it's not like it's against the constitution. i find it very patriotic that the south stood firm in what they believed in. and it's a bad idea to pretend something in history didn't happen. sorry my high school was the rebels and people always tried to change the mascot and our traditions.
Wow fans kicks r difficult but u guys make it look effortless....u guys r rlly good!! i love the ripple of kicks in the triangle formation!! that was such a cool effect!!
this dance looks good when you look at it from a group point of view, but when you single out people, there is bad techniqe such as hunching their back lifting their hips or anything like that. Over all this dance is good.
lol i go to southside now.. i'm in the band though, and i can't believe they used concert instruments there.. like.. the snares.. but whatever. and I think they've changed some things in this routine since this was filmed.. but good nonetheless :D
Awesome kicks! (And yep... Those were full splits :-) Having been on a championship high school dance team myself, I know just how difficult that routine is. The Dixie Belles make it look effortless. Beautiful!
