I'm digging this series so far. If you cover it in a later video, I apologize, but I'm having trouble making a dwarf take a chair out of a furniture pile and move it into a another room. How can I make a dwarf move furniture from a pile to somewhere else? I need to set up an office and I will eventually need to move beds out of this room.

he was a master of mining, Legendary Stone crafter and Dabbling Gem cutter (amongst other things), but i found out something new, dwarf chunks go very well with plump helmet :P.

Just a little update, carp are no longer so terrifying. Yes, they can still kill your dwarves, but not nearly to the same extent that they could before. River carp usually leave you alone, but carp hanging out in ponds are still a force to be reckoned with. I think the wiki has something about this....

@bendym4n123 My base was destroyed by some raging elves who apparently don't like being traded wooden goods. After loading, I found the best way to deal with them was to use Cage Traps. When an enemy walks over these, they get trapped in a cage. Your own dwarves and pets, and also caravans will NOT trip the traps.

Put these at the entrance, and if you order your dwarves to stay indoors with the "O" menu, and press "i" twice, the enemies will be forced to enter your fortress, and trip the traps.

Oh man, this is going to be fun to watch. You picked a great starting location, what with the interesting terrain: I already see a waterfall and iron ore. I'm fond of starting near magma, myself, but that can limit your options for other interesting starting features.

Toady claims that the whole carp thing was a mistake, but he doesn't seem too keen to remove it... personally I feel that's its exactly the kind of quirk that makes the game so unique. Can't wait for the next version!

Yeah, magma has my interest. I'm still a newbie, but I recently had a dream: A desert with a magma river, an aqueduct to carry river water above it, and farm obsidian to make giant hourglass-shaped structures in the desert.

And yeah, I'd be hesitant to remove the horror of carp, too.

However, I couldn't tell what was going on with the elevation in this video. I mean I can sorta make out the dogs, cats and stuff from reading Boat Murdered, and your video. But I can't really make sense of all of it yet.

The easiest way to make sense of height is to imagine the DF world is a cube, and you're looking straight down on one 'slice' at a time.

Also, Boatmurdered used an older release of the game that didn't have Z-levels (height) so everything was on one flat plane, which is no longer the case (obviously).
