  • If someone could point me in the direction of an instrumental version of this song I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • Postal service please come back

  • I LOVE Dntel and T.P.S. and I like Owl City, who care if they sound alike

  • @TheJordanp94 they'd be comprable if Owl City didn't have such cheese ball pussy lyrics. His musis alright I just try to block out the words. The stuff TPS put out just felt deeper and better made not to mention beautifully written.

  • I prefer "This is the Dream of Win and Regine" by Owen Pallett.

  • Owl City is a great artist. There, I said it.

  • @psychicbyinternet utter respect for you man.

  • Wait... why isn't this considered The Postal Service when it's done by its members and is largely in its style?

  • @davolfman

It was before the postal service existed, it was realesed on an album by Dntel

  • well its like 10 years old

  • songs great but the video quality is shit

  • This song reminds me of Washington sooooooo much... I love you Evergreen State! Especially Olympia and South Puget Sound CC.

  • the postal service?

  • At least it's kind of trippy.... Very odd. May listen to this with 2 CaP

  • @Southparknscrubs the first band that made you realize that lyrics are important? You are lacking in musical experience.

  • @corefx i think his user name explains why he's so shit at music.

  • Could someone explain to me why this is credited as 'Dntel featuring Ben Gibbard' and not as 'The Postal Service', considering the members are the same? Confused!

  • @AzzaSpiers came out about 2 years before the Postal Service project happened.

  • @kenny1324 Ahh, that makes sense now! I grew up listening to The Postal Service and only discovered Jimmy Tamborello's solo work a few months back. Amazing stuff. Thanks man :)

  • @AzzaSpiers This was prior to the formation of TPS which includes Jenny Lewis as well.

  • I've loved this for ages now.

  • Acting in this was one of the best moments. I still run into the director around the city. I hope people enjoy the video in addition to the song. The song has always been amazing to me.

  • @Komarios Woah woah, you were an actor in this music video? That's great, lucky you. I bet it was fun. Which role did you play?

  • @21stcenturyphantom I'm the male lead. The guy with the dreads. Yes it was a great time.

  • Comment removed

  • @Komarios new york? does anyone know where this was filmed?

  • @superjumpman92, We filmed here in NYC. Central Park, Union Square/NYU, the director's apartment in Brooklyn at the time and Randall's Island. All NYC.

  • I want this song played at my funeral. xD

  • @squantay it's a nice way of celebrating my life, I mean =)

  • dntel rules!

  • i LOVE this song

  • It's incredible how some songs are just like big great natural views.

  • @n3kas so true!

  • Comment removed

  • i love it. :)

  • interesting change from the superpitcher remix i know and love lol

  • @yodelinone DNTEL is the producer and is one half of POSTAL SERVICE with Ben Gibbard. Also Owl City blows donkey balls!

  • <3 <3 <3 This Song !!!!!!

  • I just realized this video was uploaded on 4/20. god im high.

  • Comment removed

  • im high :l this is beautiful

  • I love Jimmy Tamborello more than life itself.

  • Postal Service is a great band, but Broken Bells is better, Danger Mouse and James Mercer is definitely a better duo.

  • I dont understand why people come here to talk bad about Owl City. He's no Ben Gibbard, but I think he's still pretty good. Listen to vanilla twilight. So full of emotion.

  • @jsj89football because we're tired of hearing the one single they released played endlessly to a fanbase of 12 year old girls. it's just too poppy. the rest of their album could be solid gold but that one song turned me off so much Ill never hear it

  • ive loved this since i was twelve. i'm eighteen now and i could listen to this all day everyday over and over and over again. just make a repeat button for dntel

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man...so much souvenirs comming out of my head right now !!! This song is still really awesome after these years !!!

  • @alakazam9891 pleasing to the ears of 12 year old girls - yes.

  • @alakazam9891 Someones mad.

  • @alakazam9891 thats only cause your retarded though. owl city is the biggest rip of postal service.. just a terrble pop crap version

  • Comment removed

  • @MegaCrasher3000 "lol"

  • @alakazam9891 I agree. Is it really that much of a crime to like Owl City?

  • The first time I heard this, it made me cry.

  • wheres the love-button :(

  • Thumbs up if you like this better than anything on Give Up.

  • What about early works for me(if it works for you) That's his best/first album.. It will send you to another dimension.. I've yet to find it on Youtube.

  • @yodelinone You can clearly hear the amount of work that's put into Tamborello's rythmic sections of his songs. Owl City is not bad, but compared to Dntel or TPS, he's got a lot to do to achieve the same amount of awesomness. I honestly didn't believe that you could drive a song only with clicks and noises until I heard TPS.

  • If you're going to draw tight comparisons between Gibbard and Young (of Owl CIty) you most likely are not any sort of actual fan of either. To judge one only on the basis of comparison to the other is a mistake and probably a reason that a fan of one turns out disliking the other. Regardless of your interest in either, those listeners who have at least some sense of what musical talent is should realize they both have it.

  • @gibsoncoca except Gibbard has more of it. ha ha

  • Who the fuck is Owl City?

  • @lukepleaseshutup exactly right

  • @lukepleaseshutup a sick aussie group. should check them.

  • @lukepleaseshutup no wait. thats goodnight owl. owl city can suck my dick.

  • @lukepleaseshutup I'm pretty sure it's a porn site.

  • wow ..old memories..

  • Where can I purchase this song? I've loved Dntel since 07' when I first heard them : )

  • I'll just have to say this for the kids, and the new comers who continue to talk about owl city.

If you are just finding out about postal service, death cab, OR dntel, last but not least may I add; you are a fucking waste of life.

go back in time 10 years, start listening to death cab for cutie and live a meaningful life.

    Thank you.

  • @afterhoursism you are so cool=]

  • I love the concept and emotion of the video.

    Grasped it very well!

  • The Postal Service,Dntel,Death Cab.... Epic Stuff.......

  • @mgs4metalgear4 Ben Gibbard...Ben Gibbard...Ben Gibbard.... Epic Stuff.......

  • This is obviously a universal masterpiece. I just cant understand how can anyone dislike it. Its really beyond me.

  • This tune is from my favorite record by Jim.

  • Who were Evan and Chan?

  • @leoraac Evan is Evan Dando, the singer of the group the Lemonheads. Chan is Chan Marshall, also known as Cat Power

  • Great great track. Noticed it has the same chords as Aphex twin's Alberto Balsam.. maby inspired, probably coincidence. It's just a great progression.

  • @gwargk Thanks for the thought on Aphex Twin's Alberto Balsalm. Wouldn't have found it among all his tracks that don't work for me if you hadn't posted that. Recommended to the rest of you if you like The Dream of Evan and Chan.

  • That video is awesome.

  • Obvious prodigy sample is obvious

  • @Evulmeh what? where? wheeerreeee? i must know!! :o

  • Also, This song is fucking amazing. Everything Jimmy Tamborello touches is gold.

  • I wish people would stop trolling around comment sections bashing other artist's music.

I don't care if you don't like Owl City, I also don't care how you feel about Justin Bieber. You should try ignoring them. Thats what a sane person does.

  • @thebrockmans05

    amen

  • POSTAL SERVICE PLS PLS PLSSS ! ! come back to us and show what real music is and trample on OWL CITY ! !

  • Dear Mr. Gibbard and Mr. Tamborello, I would just like to tell you that The Postal Service is my favorite band, ever. You're the first band that made me realize that lyrics are very important. You're the first band whose songs I can listen to over and over and never get sick of them. Sure one person might not make much of a difference, but I don't think you realize how many people agree with me. Sure Death Cab is good, but the Postal Service was so much more. Sincerely, Dan.

  • 18 people have never dreamed

  • @levimon 680 people don't know 65daysofstatic

  • @htedrom Love em both, but not even sort of in the same genre.

  • @rpgjohn astute observation

  • this shit right here..

  • @iiixiayyy word, nukkah

  • i watched this...and felt nothing...*goes back to listening to Camel*

  • can anyone tell me where i can find calm glitch soundscapes/songs similar to dntel, without vocals of course.

  • @ECST4C aphex twin!

  • @AndyTabelz i'm already listening to him, and most of his songs is drum & bass / drill & bass and really fast. but i know he has this ambient collection album. but i want an artist that ONLY makes dark ambient glitch soundscapes

  • @ECST4C try burial

  • @ECST4C and you should try early chris clark

  • @borlo thanks i'll check it out!

  • @ECST4C somafm

  • @ECST4C Try looking up "Vladislav Delay".

And I'm assuming you've already heard of Boards of Canada, Autechre ... uh, B12's "Time Tourist" album might be worth checking out... you can basically just listen to anything released on Warp in the last 15 years.

  • @postsilence thank you very much! and yes i've heard boards of canada, but only one album though, think its called "boc maxima" i dont really know which album i should listen to but i chose boc maxima because i enjoyed the track "everything you do is a balloon" but again, thank you! i will check it out!

  • @postsilence i've checked out all these bands now, i have to say autechre is my favorite! thank you!

  • ugh... quit talking about owl city. silly children

  • This is one of the most amazing songs ever made. Literally ever aspect of it is perfect. Why anyone would feel the need to compare it to Owl City is beyond me. Keep it to DNTEL.

  • @yodelinone Best comment I've ever seen on the matter.

  • I hate when you watch a video and it totally doesn't fit the vision you had for it when you first heard the song. Not a bad video, could be better. The song is one of my favorites of all time, it's just gorgeous.

  • Sir, you seem to be peeing upon my leg.

  • Quit fucking crying about who sounds like what who's doing it first or goddamn fuck. Bunch of fuckin' school children showing off about who knows what like a dick length competition. Sad and very pathetic.......but the song is amazing by the way.

  • uggh. it's a CRYING shame I had to be exposed to owl city whining about nonsense, and even worse that I find this band after the damage is done. Not now dntel, but maybe when I can clean out the owl city stain in my ears I'll be able to revisit you. For now, the remix on Neon Indian's Local Joke will suffice, mmmmmm, delicious stuff.

  • @Dianity900 blow, like a blowjob, like he sucks male genitalia. you really didnt know what blow means?

  • I like how less people know of The Postal Service and Dntel than the people that know about Owl City.

at least more of the people that know of Owl City know it as Bad Music.

  • You know how when you clone something, it's supposed to be slightly dumber than the original copy?

Owl City is the 845096840986th copy of Postal Service and Dntel, making it not only legally retarded, but also, not worth mentioning on any PS or Dntel video ever again.

  • Dntel and The Postal Service are pure and still haven't COMPLETELY sold out like fags.

Owl City sold out after he came up with Fireflies which REALLY pisses me off. I used to really love his music about four or five years ago but now it's just over played.

  • this song makes me meloncholy for some reason ... :-/

  • I like both, though I think Owl City uses too much auto-tunes. Ben Gibbard's voice is pure, though usually cleaned up in recordings. I like both for what they offer though.

  • how can u compare owl city to the postal service

  • owl city doesn't amount

  • I was tricked by this music.

  • WHY THE FUCK are people comparing Postal Service to Owl City. Owl city does not sell itself as the spiritual successor to postal service you people just saw that they were kind of alike and assumed they copied STFU i like Owl City just as much as Postal Service there two SEPARATE BANDS i do not even compare them in anyway.

  • @gale34 Ahem, they sound so much alike that it's hard not to compare them. He may not proclaim to be the successor of Postal Service but it has become apparent that he fits the bill the best. He is and will be the successor until he starts making music in a different genre (like metal, which I doubt he would), or until he stops making music, or someone better comes along and people move to that artist/band.

  • @iMieaniT are you kidding me Postal Service is downbeat and haunting while Owl City is upbeat and cherry.

  • @gale34 They still both sound very much alike, whether or not one is more upbeat then the other. Owl City is probably the closest thing to Postal Service at the moment. Please, listen to Owl City and Postal Service and tell me that they don't sound similar, especially when it comes to the voice. Obviously Owl City has some variations, but that doesn't mean Owl City isn't similar to Postal Service.

  • Can Postal Service please put out another album? Or at least 1 song?

  • Just because Owl City is popular now, doesn't mean people have to bash it. And honestly, I do not see how Owl City can be compared to Dntel or the Postal Service. They are nothing alike in my opinion.

  • effing AMAZING music video.

  • Owl City lacks the subtle modulations and noises going on in the background. Jimmy Tamborello is the master of perfecting the way his sounds fill a space and that bastard from owl city is to lazy to focus on all that, hes just trying to copy a formula.

  • is ben gibbard singing??

  • @Dltn97 Yes.

  • I love postal service and I occasionally dig some Owl City. But they really are NOT similar at all... Owl City is way more straight synth-pop, whereas Postal Service is more like glitch music in a pop format

  • fuck owl city, you cooks probably just stumbled on these master pieces and I would be surprised if MTV didn't help you out. ANTIOWLCITY

  • Why does fans of electronic subpop hate eachother so much?

  • It's puzzling to me too :P

  • Am I the only person who thinks Postal Service is kind of (extremely fucking) overrated?

And Owl City is pure shit but everyone knows that.

  • Yes, Gibbard and Tamborellos work is just too prominent to be thrown into some pop corral with owl city.

  • oh I forgot how much I love this song, what an amazing piece of music

  • owl city has too much auto-tune

ben gibbard does not use auto-tune.

  • Ben Gibbard was in DNTEL? I thought this was by the Postal Service...

  • @SamanthaUnicorn

DNTEL This DNTELxGibbard collabo that lead to the creation of Postal Service. So in a sense you were correct in thinking that it was PS even though it is not labled as so. Technically it is DNTEL ft. Ben Gibbard. Cheers Samantha!

  • why isnt this on the radio?

    radio in jordan sucks...

its all rNb... sum of it is actually bearable but not most of it :P

  • I have an idea about the purpose of the feedback in this song: it's talking about a dream and there is feedback at the beginning and the end. The one at the beginning represents the 'I' character falling asleep while the one at the end represents him waking up. Just my 2 cents.

  • is it me or is the sound on this track really distorted? if it's part of the song then i feel stupid and ignorant.. otherwise it's a bit annoying...

  • @IREALLYDONWANNAKNOW its distorted

  • @mandaMartini well somebody needs to fix it.........

  • @IREALLYDONWANNAKNOW on purpose, fool!

  • @mandaMartini excuse me for my ignorance... but I'm no fool... in fact I would say you're a bit of an idiot yourself... I am new to this band you pathetic excuse for a human being.

  • @IREALLYDONWANNAKNOW calm down you freak. I only called you a fool.

  • @mandaMartini just who do u think you are?

  • What are they waiting for to make another albun?

  • Dear Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello. Please make another record together to show that Owl City kid what music is.

And because ya'll have awesome fans who are willing to sell quite a few material possessions to see ya'll live.

  • @Swiftlygothedays Why do you metion Owl City in this?

  • @Compooky121 BecauseI felt like it.If you look at the comments from 5 months ago, there was a rather heated"debate" in which every single comment was about Owl City vs. TPS.And how Owl City stole from TPS blah blah blah. And Adam Young said in some interview that he wanted to be the next TPS and "continue" the feeling of Give Up.And Gibbard and Walla were pissed and cried foul and posted stuff on twitter and demanded payment in the form of ponies. And as much as I hate it, they're all connected.

  • @Swiftlygothedays Really? Owl City is nothing like Postal Service, that is really bizarre. I don't think the two are even comparable. It's like comparing Charles Dickens with Stephanie Myer.

  • Best Song Ever.

  • Benjamin Gibbard & Jimmy Tamborello.. its like the best combination of music ever..

  • originality...yeah, it's not so much that as authenticism. but Owl City, nothing of his music is authentic.

musically, it's a watered down, retard-friendly take on what he idolises.

he's also basically singing in broken Gibbard. lyrically, it doesn't take much analysis to see how he cribbed from 'Such Great Heights' on 'Fireflies'.

I write music myself. before I developed my own unique style, I used to write whilst listening to songs that inspired me. sounds like this guy has done the same.

  • @thisguyisajerk why are you trying to make some hero out of this guy? there's no honour or whatever in making tunes in your parents basement, and even less if the tunes you make are such a naive, meek rip of something so vital and brilliant.

people are rightly bitter as Tambarello honed his own unique take on electronic pop music, defining all that was good about early 00s lap-pop with a couple of timeless records. but to a comparitively tiny audience. and this kid is effectively taking credit.

  • is that the dude from owl city singing, sounds like him

  • Owl city is a horrible horrible band and is in no way comparable to Dntel or the postal service. Owl city is just a cheap knock off of the postal service. Owl City is for 6th graders.

  • Becoming one of the fav bands, for now...

Best way to listen to new music is to download as many various new artists (new to you) as you can, via itunes purchase entire albums from the "listeners also bought" section, after you do this put your entire

collection on shuffle and be amazed at what new sounds you hear. Telefon Tel Aviv and this band was one of my amazing finds.

  • if you like this artist check out happiness by riceboy sleeps, and sigur ros

  • Rock is dying, you know it and i know it, this is whats next...

  • People are just going to have to get it in there heads that this type of music is what is in, and there is going to be thousands of bands just like it in the future.

  • i hate the long intro but other than that i like it

  • soooo awesome, i love this song :)

  • I don't understand why everyone is trying to say Owl City is a rippoff of Figurine and Dntel, surely they were pioneers and legends of the synth-pop movement, but comparing Owl City to either is just a disgrace to Figurine and Dntel. Owl City does make good music, "good enough" for the public.

  • hahaha i lollllddd. too true.

  • This is a really good point. Even if Owl City is just watered-down Dntel or Postal Service, it's still better than most of top 40 radio. Still, it's a shame the public seems to want watered-down Dntel over real Dntel. I don't understand, but mediocrity has always been popular.

  • there are no ripoffs in music except vanilla ice

  • It's undoubtedly fucking clear that 'Owl City' are a shameless rip off.

How is this even questionable? 'thisguysajerk' needs help.
