@doford - a degree is supposed to teach relevant skills, and the employers are supposed to therefore hire qualified people from the educational establishments, at whatever levels the students come out at - high school, college, uni, etc.

It's a fucking mess and has been for ages. Plus - there aren't paid jobs in what needs to be done the most anyway.

HR depts don't have a clue either.

The fact is employers have to train their own employees. Looking for a easy and cheap way out and depending on universities to train people leads to less jobs. Universities just don't know enough about the skills we need. People's dependency on degrees isn't healthy for the economy.

@doford I would agree with some of your points, ie. in essence, not everyone is suited to University, and many go due to having no other options. However, education is invaluable, and stays with you longer than any one job. It is no good thing to be entirely reliant on a particular company to indoctrinate you with your knowledge; it's a very worthwhile experience to learn for yourself at a University. Whether most make the best of the opportunity is a whole other argument, of course.

They cornered people like rats and then provoked them into bad behaviour by panicking them - at one point we were kettled for several hours in the freezing cold - for no apparent reason. They were not allowing peaceful protests. Of course this all helped convince stupid people like yourself (and many others here) that education should not be a right. Sickening and sad.
