Elehants are to be used in the final part or a decisive moment in battle cause they are, above all, a psicological weapon... see the enemy infantry and it would say something like "frightened by a terrifing unit" that apply to all elephants including generals bodiguard (indian one).
it usually need a losing slightly battle + fear of the elephants + plus melee with then in order to rout a regiment etranger or a hesse line infantry... use then wisely and don't launch then without reason...
@benbenben140 i've gone against elephants with line infantry without artillery and just regular line(no experiance) infantry and won in the campaign, but artillery would have helped
