Russians are convinced they have a lock-hold on Petipa-Minkus-type variations and interchange ballets, variations, costumes and props at will. How many Russian Don Q variations have I seen with NO fan? I see the same casual disregard for traditional props and costumes in this rendition of "Esmeralda", with NO tambourine.

This young dancer is talented to be sure but I hope she's properly coached so she develops into a real ballerina, instead of a "rhythmic-gymnast-as-ballerina­".
