mantle must have been the best.look how many times they were in the world series while he was playing.you may say well he played with an all around better team.so he was the best of the best.
In my opinion Mantle was the most outstanding player that has ever lived. he came from a small town of Spavina Oklahoma and turned out as a man who goes down in many people's hearts. and anyone who says he had a drinking problem...he did but he knew it. AND he gave speeches to children about not drinking. R.I.P August 13, 1995 "The Mick"
Living in KC, I didn't get to see the Yankees or Mickey all that much, but man, I gotta tell ya, when Mantle caught a ball square, it was different, just different than anyone else. At the old Municipal Stadium I saw the Mick hit several home runs, one left handed clearing everything baseball and landing in the front yard of a home across Brooklyn Ave. That ball was hit so hard, a line drive, it was completely out of the place in just 2 or 3 seconds! Another cleared the fan-a-gram in center fld
A friend told me a story of when he hung out at the same bar as Mickey. Mickey would sit at a table towards the back with his buddies. This guy said that you wouldn't look at him when you walked by to use the john. Once he was in the john and looked over and Mickey was in the stall next to him. He said that Mickey was an extremely large, intimidating guy, especially when he drank.
I was born in 1956 --mickey triple crown year...Mantle --is the greatest player I have ever seen..Mays is 2nd....Ken griffey Jr--3rd.. Aaron 4th ......Alex Rod ..5th.
......But---of all the players I have seen---none are better than mantle---and none more powerful--Mantles talent--as great as Mays was.....mantle was one peg above. If Ken Griffey Jr didnt get hurt so much---Id say he would have surpassed mickey.on some levels....but--thats another day. I love ya Mickey.
Man ... I first started to cheer for the Yankees as a kid, just because of Mickey Mantle. I had no idea who he was at the time, but everybody talked about him a lot in the schoolyard. (LOL)
i saw him alot in cleve they booed him when he came to bat but when he would hit a home run the place would go crazy - it's like yesterday - i'm 60 & a tear still comes to me
60yrs old been a mickey mantle - yankee fan for 54yrs - have a letter from mickey & roger aug.1962 - it's real signed by both - rest in peace you're still #1
I gew up in the Bronx when the Mick was KING. I tell you, this guy was so exciting to watch and every bit an athlete. too bad about those knees -- he could have done so much more. My greatest thrill was seeing him play at Yankee Stadium.
The fact that Mickey had to go to some shady doctor when he was ill late in the '61 season raises a troubling question : why wasn't Dr. Sidney Gaynor, the Yankees' team physician, able to take care of No. 7's medical needs? One would assume that, even back in the days of the Reserve Clause, a team's front office would have had a financial interest in protecting the health of their biggest star.
A great yankee revered by millions. The numbers were as good as they should have been but we all know why. I grew up watching him and felt bad getting the details of drinking and family problem. I hope in the end he found peace. I will say this. No one has ever excited the fans the way Mantle did. Whether it was a long home run, a drag bunt or going from first to third in the early years. He was a thing to behold. Long live the game of baseball!

One of the best baseball stories I'm able to tell my son is that I saw Mickey Mantle hit a home run at the original "house that Ruth built!"
