So Yoruichi is "Black" in that way meaning she could be based on an Indian person or a Southeast Asian person. Hell! She could be based on a Brazilian person for all we know. However the term has devolved over the years to now only specifically refer to people of African decent. That's probably why some African-Americans find the term "Black" to be offensive.

Very, very true. The term "Black" is universal. There are "black" ppl all over the world from Europe to Asia to the Americas. The Dalits of India, the Roma of Romani, Pacific Islanders, Aborigines, the Aeta of the Philippines are all considered "Black" in their own countries.

If I'm not mistaken Yoruichi's hair is purple in both the manga and anime, however, Tousen's hair is brown in the manga and purple in the anime. Could that be a connection with their designs? Judging from that you could also say that Yoruichi could be based on a person of African descent.
I dunno. If you look closely at Tosen's hair, his hair is a darker shade of purple. It's almost black. Not to mention he has the braids and the very distinguished lips so the only true connection I see between the two is the dark skin.
I'll give you that with the hair, because IIRC Mila Rose, who also has the same skin shade, has brown hair. Tousen's "pronounced" lips, however, are a different story. For starters, he's not the only one with pronounced lips, in fact most if not all of the dark-skin male characters have them. To be honest, the pronounced lips might just be a "male" thing. The bottom line is that Yoruichi was designed to be a dark-skinned character whom obviously CAN be considered "blk" based on one's definition.

Well what people keep forgetting is that Yoruichi and all those other characters are not Human. They're Shinigami. The characters in Bleach are organized by their species (Ex. Human, Arrancar, Shinigami, ect.), Therefore the Shinigami or Arrancar characters have no race or ethnicity since they're not even Human. Obviously those characters were simply drawn that way BASED on a specific ethnicity to make them stand out from the rest of the lighter skinned characters.

Tite Kubo most likely simply made her dark-skinned to go with the fact that she can turn into a black cat. It's highly doubtful that Yoruichi is black. She was probably made just for variety reasons and to make her different from the other characters.

Well what people keep forgetting is that Yoruichi and all those other characters are not Human. They're Shinigami. The characters in Bleach are organized by their species (Ex. Human, Arrancar, Shinigami, ect.), Therefore the Shinigami or Arrancar characters have no race or ethnicity since they're not even Human. Obviously those characters were simply drawn that way BASED on a specific ethnicity to make them stand out from the rest of the lighter skinned characters.

i myself dont think taht yoruichi is black or w.e. other ppl think she is. her name is japanese and honestly all ppl in japan are not super pale. i should know im japanese so the artist must have just made her darker but taht doesnt necesserly mean shes a different race

Tite Kubo most likely simply made her dark-skinned to go with the fact that she can turn into a black cat. It's highly doubtful that Yoruichi is black. She was probably made just for variety reasons and to make her different from the other characters.

Of course. First of all, Tosen isn't even a Human. Therefore he is exempt from the Human races since he is a Shinigami. Although his appearance is clearly and obviously based on a person of African decent.

I really dont see the problem with her being black. I guess to some people being black means your ugly? Please there are tons of gorgeous people of the black race. I mean many people today are in fact racist and dont want her to be black even though she probably is. I've seen plenty of Indians and to me Yoruichi's skin looks like that of a brown-skinned black woman. Tanned brown but not black skin has a different look to it. It's hard to put into words.

i dont think yoruichi is black. she doesnt really have any typical "black" features, and skin color isnt really much to go by nowadays, some of my friends and i are as tan as her because we live next to the beach, it isnt really an indicator. well if she is black, its definitely mixed-Mariah-Carey-black and not Jada-pinkett-smith-100%-black.
