  • Top Gun--what a stupid movie. It's an insult to use the music from such a pretentious film as the backdrop of such a genuine human drama.

  • RIP the Professor

  • Fantastic video, takes me back to watching the PDM boys. GJT, what a climber.

  • Hella vintage sound and video! LOVE IT!

  • Seen it a hundred times, but this is always an emotional tour. Easily one of the best still. Great times in cycling. Vive la Tour!

  • Thank you - takes me back to happier times :)

  • Great Tour de France. Lets hope Fignon wins his fight against cancer.

  • Wow -- gotta love Jörg Müller grabbing the motorcycle cop's gun (or taser?) at 8:51!

  • @sjl62 I don't know what he was thinking

  • Thanks Pudsey for this. I have our 1989 to about 2003 on VHS. My first Tour was the 89 one and lemond is my hero. There are so many little tracks which channel 4 put on the tour programmes. There was one from 1992 as they were descending in slow motion. It was a slow version of the kellogs tour of britain music. Echanting!!

  • I've been looking for this footage for 10 years, since I lost my VHS taped recordings of the original broadcast. I had every stage!! I still have 91-96 TDF's.

Did you ever convert what you have onto DVD? I'd gladly pay for a copy. Liggetts live phone line commentary is so much better than the narrated retrospective version you can buy in the shops....

  • Hi Craig

I still have it on VHS - the full programme as transmitted by C4. I could transfer to DVD if you like but not sure when I will be able to do it.

    Regards

    Tony

  • Craig

Many thanks for that. Yes please, whenever you have time. In return I have a spare copy of this months Rouler, as an advertiser and will forward it to you. It has a great feature on the Z team of the day and a funny cartoon about the 1989 Tour plus many other retro features. PM me your address if interested?

    Regards

    Shelley

  • @CragenPlant Too right about the phone commentary. The 80s was brilliant because Motson and Davies at World Cups and Liggett at TdF's commented via crackly telephone and it sounded so exotic and exciting. Absolutely love it - nothing beats hearing Liggett commentary from the late 80s - takes me back to being a kid on warm summer evenings coming home from school to watch the C4 show.

  • I finally found out the name of the track I was looking for (starting at 1m 50s).

It's called 'Grand Designs' by John Deveraux and Dave Reilly on the 'Acheivers' album - KPM record label - all I need now is a copy of it!

Thanks to Iian for letting me know.

    Tony

  • Sure its not John Devereux or Devereaux?

  • After 20 years, I finally have a copy of the track I was looking for - thanks to Iain.

    Cheers

    Tony O'B

  • Did you ever get a copy of this music. It is just great for the memories?

  • Hi

Yes I did. I couldn't find an 'original' copy so one was copied for me and it sounds great.

  • Is there any chances you can share the copies?

  • dsfdsf

  • The memories come flooding back. I loved this music then, and I still do.

There was some music played from 1990 onwards (I think) when Paul Sherwen used to narrate over a "Team Tatics" clip during the Tour. Vague information I know, but anyone have any idea what that was called? It was more than likely just put together for that specific clip, but here's hoping.

Thanks for posting this video......... Great stuff.

  • Any luck figuring out how to post the rest of this stage?

  • Hi Kevin

I'm afraid I just haven't had the time. I think / believe there is a limit on the length (size of file) I could upload.

I'm not promising but the easiest thing to do would be copy the whole thing to DVD for you. However, time is still the problem.

    Tony

  • the title music was composed for the programme by the buzzcocks, dont know if they had anything to do with the other piece of music though.

  • Hi. Thanks. I know about the title music and the Buzzcocks. It's the last one I'm after and it appears it may just be library music so the chances of finding out who wrote it are slim.

    Taa

    Tony

  • Hi

I expect it is just a piece of library music that many editing suites will have.

If I could contact the editor who is named at the end of the clip that would be great. However, 20 years on, he probably won't remember.

    Tony

  • hello i would also love to find the name of this piece of music as it was this that stirred my passion for this great sport....20 years this year whao...
