thats what i did i re painted my first guitar ever which was 89 dollars its a cheap squire strat painted it to the 5150 exact and now i could sell for 450+ :)

If you want a dull finish you have to wet sand the paint (use a light grain sand paper). Dont sand enough to take any paint off, just do it very lightly.

And if you want a shiny finish you can do this and put a few coats of clear coat on top.

haha i might ask a few more questions wen these are answered so here goes...

1) can u use just normal spray paint and then gloss it so its hiny like the guitar

2) is there a way to paint curves (because if u protect the back layer of paint with tape, you cant really curve tape that much)(hope you kno what im tlking abbout on that one

and

3) do u ABSOLUTELY HAVE to take out the pickups even if ur stayin a reasonable distance away from them

tcherassi1 alot about his guitar..its really cool ..check it out..its alot better thqan thsi piece of crap...but he said he used normal tape and he cut the tape to make it a curve...with an exacto knife.....and also...no..he said he idnt take the pickups out...he put tape over them and painted over them...but his treble pickup broke...when he was sanding it...he sanded the pickup wires and he didnt notice so it doesnt work anymore...bu the rythm still works..

well, it depends on how much the SG is worth. The Peavey I painted here , doesn't cost much, I enjoyed the painting and I have a 'nice' guitar to hang on my wall...

if you don't get 150 $ for your SG, paint it! :)

my sg i got for $200...its an epiphone special sg....its for begginers..am a begginer lol so yeah..ive been playin guitar for about 2 months but i might buy a les paul epiphone on 2 or 3 months......oh and hey..i was wondering..my sg has like a hardshell on top of the wood...its like a cherry colored hard shell....i dropped it once and a piece broke off and i can see the wood inside...so if i were to paint it would i have to take the hardshell off??

The headstock? where it says eipiphone special sg? uhm i wouldnt worry too much about that But you should not sell your sg reason y not to you should always have all your guitars and not sell them just collect them so if one breaks you an go to the other one and yea you should paint it if your getting a les paul i mean only if u want too and the paint will mostly likly cover it but becarful u dont want to damage the guitar

when you finish painting.... put some clear spray over it, and polish it. it will look like new :)

Put a whole bunch of clearcoat on it - 1 thin layer at a time - and let it dry between layers. When you've got a bunch on there and it's cured for a week or two, you can polish it with automotive polish and an old t-shirt. It's hard work, but you can buff it to a really high gloss.

wheres the worn paint ,cigarette burns double black hummbuccer at the bridge end,there shouldnt be a middle pick up and a dummie redish looking front pick up ,the pick up guard is black and should be cut down,theres no 71 quarter,one black volume knob,you need to remove the tone knobs,your neck doesnt come close to the frankenstrat ,dont forget the eye bolts for the guitar strap,and on the back theres no reflectors and the back plate needs to be removed ,and wheres ya floyderose,do another one

not exactly. to make a 5150 you paint it white and then tape the white stripes. then you paint it red and peel off the tape. then you tape off two pieces of tape to mark the lines where you want the black stripes.

first white , the tape off the line that should stay white , than paint it red , remove the tape , en you have white lines. the black lines were more dificult , I had to tape of the whole guitar , except for the black line ;)

the eaisier way to do it is to paint it black then tape the black lines, paint it white remove the tape, then put some random tape lines so that there is black whita and red

Google Eddie Van HAlen 5150. It was another model he made, it's in the panama music video. It only had a cavity for the bridge pickup and had less black stripes. iT HAD ABOUT 6 BLACK STRIPES 3 IN FRONT THREE IN BLACK, AND IT HAD ALOT MORE WHITE STRIPES THAN BLACK, AND OF COURSE A CRAP LOAD OF RED.

But yeah your guitar paint job is similar to that one. but again still sweet !!!
