I like the feeling he gives the song. It has to be one of my favorites by the Pixies, but I love how Bowie made it so like-flowy, but I still feel like it's plenty loud and intense, just different from the Pixies' loud and intense. It just makes me want to do a little flowy dance really

Oh cool, Bowie covers the Pixies. He really changed the feeling of the song. I don't feel like I'm actually sitting there in jail missing my girl. He should've exercised his creativity and changed it so the guy busts out of jail to go see his girl. That's how the song feels now.

@idadudenmanner Yeah, man. The lyrics to this song are crazy raw. Where Is My Mind is alright, I don't mind it. I think people only like it just because it was on several films, and they've never heard the full album. It's sort of like The Flaming Lips's "Do You Realize?".

i was listening to david bowie with my dad when i was 4 and 5 and i loved him, we danced to him alllll the time and im 13 now and i still love this song and it makes me think of the time when i was 4 and listening to this. 3 weeks ago me and my dad listened to this song for the first time in 9 years. we also listened to neil young and bob dylan. love em and led zeppelin.

Right. Ok. I gave up on Bowie years ago, but I have to say this Heathen album is sounding pretty fucking good!

Both tracks work because of the "minimal" sections in which the letters are spelled out - psychedelic vocal gems. The rest of the track is sort of suspense building (call) and the letter sections are the wicked payoff (response). The Pixies version has a more minimal "response", Bowie's a thicker, whiter noise that harks back to his Heroes/Low period. Bowie wouldn't have covered this song if couldn't have equalled the original. His unique "response" section is the key to his version.
