i always fish with the boilie close to the hook on chods and pop ups! the rig mechanics are far simpler and different to bottom and critically balanced baits. with pop up, you just need to get the hook in its mouth. the weight "shot or putty" used to hold the bait down enhances the rig mechanics too and keeps your hook at the correct position. if im using a pop up or chod then i will always use it a few feet away from the bottom free offerings. good video.
@redbullstef2 I'm no pop-up specialist, I actually rarely use them, but still... if you watch my other videos (notably the long hair one), you will see that carp tend to take the bait with the top of their lips, so a 2cm hair... the hook would likely stay out of the carp's mouth in most cases... I believe a Korda video was showing exactly that.
@micallef87 No difference. This was all recorded as part of the same session and using the same rig. The first video shows the (numerous) failures, the second video shows the (few) successes...
Nice vid so thanks. Just wondering how difficult it was to make the video? Did you hire the equipment or own it? Does the water clarity have a big impact on where you can film? I would love to do some match fishing vids but perhaps the water clarity in a commercial fishery would be too muddy? Any advice would be appreciated.
@andycarpcatcher I own the equipment. Yes, water clarity does matter, I have the best results near winter time, actually. Check my Web site (carpiopedia), the video section and you'll find various write-ups on my experience with underwater video making.
@soppp2 No disagreement here, but if you're implying that my pop-up was hovering that high, then this is not quite true. I know, the video is a bit deceiving, as the underwater camera magnifies a lot. Check the rig at the beginning of the video, and you'll see that the pop-up was just a few cm from the bottom.
@JeromeMoisand No, no, mate... I can see everything very clearly, ure right. Misunderstanding, my comment was an answer on The ToBuBi's post... Sorry.
@sam58810976 what do you mean theres no special technique developed in ancient China thousands of years ago which was passed down by alien ancestors from a parallel universe on how to handle a fish
@stedalli83 If you use a bolt rig, yes, they hook themselves, but this isn't quite dependent on using a hair rig or not. And yes, I don't see why not (boilie on a float), as long as this is enough of an instant bait (i.e. attractant).
@TheToBuBi People have caught using both techniques. Personally, I have very limited confidence in using more than a couple of centimeters for a pop-up...
as a british angler im shocked to see no unhooking mat of any kind, and amazed to see the carp layed on its stomach with its pectoral fins used as a stand!!!!!! come on whats going on???
Hey man nice carp, but I have a question do you use a safety mat, if you know what I mean? because if you put the carp on the grass you can damage the carp.
i think if you use half a pop up you will hook more carp because if you think carp have been hook on boiles for years and there bound to wise up to it so try it you may get better results
Nice vids. I've watched them all a dozen times. but i noticed that you have your bait too far from the bend of the hook. have your hair come out from right where the bend starts, keep your hair as short as possible to try and keep the bait almost touching the hook. watch your success skyrocket.
I had a feeling that was a ghosty when watching on the camrea stunning fish you have there mate !, personaly i think these videos are amazing, really shows you how the carp feel the bait with there pectoral fins and mouth, If i can say id recomend a bottom bait thats sticks to the bottom for more sucess, but you have already tryed that by now i geuss ?.
at 3:40 you can clearly see the carp 'checking' the bait out. nosing it around seeing if it feels natural or not. It decides its not right and makes like a tree and leaves. thats why i dont use pop ups.
@gggbbbeee no change, same rig, same recording sessions, I just selected the failures for the first video, and the successes for the second video. Simple as that! ;-)
I noticed in the first of these two vids they got away wioth it a lot did you make a slight alteration to the popup for the second part as they clearly didnt.
Am i right in saying you are just pushing a small swivel into the popup to hold it on the hooklink and finally cracking last fish over here in England we would call that a ghost carp because they have a ghostly appearance when seen in the water almost a skull look to the head area.
@carpingbonkers It isn't a swivel in the pop up, but a little rig ring. use them myself, you put a little elastic band on the ring and use that as a hair. So basically you can use pretty much any size bait without making a new rig/hair! :D
@carpingbonkers no alteration, this is exactly the same rig and the same sessions, I just selected the successful events for the 2nd video, and the less successful events for the first one!
@1:30 thats why they work so well as singles becasue the carp are not slowly going from peice to peice. They see bait and confidently eat it. Ow and still waiting on the short hook links ;) Good Video mate

I see You're hook is very close to the bait, is that a must or? cause i have 2cm between (15mm pup-up) and hook bend.

Everything above 20 cm's is not pop up presentation no more, 0,5 m (or longer) rig is ZIG rig...

That's awesome. What equipment did you use to video the footage. It would be ace to see how your bait is presented after you have cast in.

@rkdeighton Tx. I used an Aqua-Vu Explorer 7 underwater camera. And a separate video recorder.

hi wen fishing with a hair rig do u have to wait for the carp to hook them selves? and is it possible to fish on a boilie witha float?

@JeromeMoisand Do I have to fish 5-6 centimetres up to the ground 8like you in this video) or can I also fish0,3-0,5m high?

masongeorge123 6 months ago
@masongeorge123 Few few mirrors in this venue. Probably less than 1%. With a few significant exceptions, this is the norm in North America.

It seems that you only catch the carp that take in the bait while they are swimming or moving fairly fast. Maybe the sorter hooklink will work.
And needless to say, that a popup does not seem to be the thing when their head is tight to the bottom.
Supers vids! Please more, and also please let me know what sort of cammera equipment you are using.
