  • the rifle work is intimidating. Very well done.

  • we did the balad and the opener this year at larue county the video is on my profile....we also won state here in KY

  • GO AVON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Boss. Anyone know the score?

  • How.

  • I don't take anything away from the kids, because I know they performed their hearts out . . . but it would just be nice to see a band win with an original program instead of refurbishing a corps program. Santa Clara in 2000, if I'm correct. Very well done, and congrats!

  • the best Avon show by far, in my opinion. That closer is absolutely insane. The brass is just... wow. Another fantastic job, Avon!

  • 8:00 watch the lady's head.

  • a kid from rb was here

  • I've seen this so many times... and every time I watch it I get stunned by the trumpets at 1:50-2:08

  • I love their Drum Major's conducting!

  • that is at the very least 250 people.:O Holy fuck. Our marching band competes with 65 people.

  • @horus0987 I still can't believe that our colorguard next year is the size of your guys' band!

  • Why don't people stop arguing over something like money and just enjoy the fucking show. Money has nothing to do with how wonderful Avon is!

  • holy fuck

  • I still remember seeing this show live... It was amazing!

  • Great job Avon! You make for great competition. I can't wait to see you at finals this year. Good luck and God Bless :). P.S. THATS LAPS TIMBO

  • i still say this is the hardest show ive ever had to perform

  • The marching bands that get far and get good scores are that way because they work their butts off. People blame it on them being "rich" but it's not. Its because they work for it- Homestead gets the same blame for being "rich" but its more of because they practice every single day (excluding sunday). So people who talk about schools getting high scores because they have money need to shove it.

  • @Mavrik2013 i hate that stupid new ACLU thing... my band already has enough trouble funding itself as it is... no need to encourage people to NOT pay their band "contributions"

and some bands can't do much without their staff unless you have good student leadership like marian catholic does so good funding is needed

    -a frustrated socal band member

  • @Mavrik2013 This cannot be stressed enough. L.D. Bell usually has an open rehearsal and run through a couple nights before they leave for BOA Grand Nationals each year. A few of my friends and I went to one of them and got there early so we could watch the rehearsal as well. It absolutely blew my mind how well they rehearsed. They were like robots. They were incredibly efficient. My old high school band was reasonably successful but the way Bell rehearsed made us look like four year olds.

  • @Mavrik2013 Well my band practices as much as possible... We are under staffed we all have very old equipment. We haven't had new uniforms in 15 years. We often get bumped from a field to another one having to paint a new football field on a baseball field... It sucks because we don't have any money. But it also is determined by work ethics

  • Trumpet feature, Drop. Dead. Sexy,

  • drum major is throwing bows at the end, looks like he could take someone out, love it. some of the best field conducting for the sound I've seen.

  • @pokepoo234 I thought great of your band. But now. I think so much less of it. Show's what kinds of people youare.

  • This is the most incredible thing i have seen in my entire life.

  • Dont get me wrong Avon's a great band but I think broken arrow shouldv'e won that one

  • I absolutely LOVE this show ! You guys rock !

  • ok. so i was all set to hate on this. but it's a great marching band show start to finish imo. very strong and worthy of first place. :D

  • my favorite part is 4:00-6:30, aka the ballad. it's like a trance. and the drum major doesn't look stupid, at all, because he's getting what he wants out of the band. totally impacting.

  • @pokepoo234 watch your mouth. What are you trying to prove? You're making us all look bad. Just shut up.

  • Boooo!! Avon is over rated!!

  • L.D. Bell has a great marching band program. But I don't agree with there newer shows (Pan's labyrinth). Anyone for south-eastern bands?

  • @jmr3394 Old school Lassiter, old school Irmo, Wando nowadays.

  • @papajohn5656 to me nothing has beaten that 1998 Lassiter show.

  • Everyone in my band just blares all the time, they have no sense of ensemble or balance. Plus only half of us know how to march in step. I would kill for a chance to march with Avon or L.D. Bell or someone better than us.

  • We used this music last year. YOU ROCK AVON!!!!!

  • it must be cool to be in the band at that school because the band is huge... i wish it was like that at our school

  • 7:45 to the end is basically band nerd pornography. *drooling*

  • @jhawkgiant77 Why?

  • Trumpet feature blows my mind every time......

  • Castle High School The Canyon 2001 same music whole lot less epic. Old School though

  • Awesome. Awesome Awesome. Tied with 2007 with one of my favorites

  • Look up White Knoll High School's 'always watching' amazing show, I think. :D

  • I finally understand why this drill is so clean and why the music technique is so hammered out. I just checked out the rehearsal schedule for the Avon band. They've got 'em practicing all summer, save two weeks for vacation. That's pretty brutal.

  • I can't even fathom what the applause must have been like from the field

  • @clarinet2231

    It was AMAZING in person

  • I am now a fan of Avon Black and Gold. Awesome!

  • I am now a fan of Avon Black and Gold. Awesome!

  • seminole high school 2004, Experiment 33776; An Adventure in Modernism

  • what song is the first movement??? I love the sick trumpet runs!!

  • L.D. Bell practices 8 hours a week and is this good. :)

  • @HolyNameSnipers holy shit! how is that possible! i play baritone in my marching band in cary nc and we practice for 16+ hours a week. how are they that amazing?

  • They deserved first in 09 but not this year

  • @Austinlb94 Agreed. LD Bell should've gotten it, in my opinion.

  • @whatimesit Nah, avon totally deserved it.

  • @jacacriss lawl i i'm biased, i live in N. Texas. I'm reluctant to admit defeat >:)

  • Best HS Band I've Seen. Hands Down. The Drum Major is Killin everyone in the Competition. This guy is way ahead of his time. AVON Just became my Favorite HS Band.

  • one of myv fav shows of 2009

  • Gosh I can see why yall are like AMAZING yall probaly pratice a whole lot!!!!!! In texas we have an eight hour rule thats how much we can pratice a week during marching season.

  • drum major is ballin out at 8:00

  • Gorgeous trumpet solo at the beginning. <3

  • Ohh my lorrrdd the part with no hats is brilliant! As are the masks! I'm from one of the big Texas bands that goes to grand nats, and geez i wish we had enough time to get this good (stupid 8 hour rule). How long do you guys practice a week?

  • I FUCKING LOVE AVON!

  • HOLY CRAP TRUMPETS!!! WAY TO GO @ 1:53

  • I loved watching the band director at the very end in the right hand corner at 8:33

  • no more like 3 hours every other day

  • @chaelmimichael I disagree, but Broken Arrow does play with lots more emotion that Texas IMO. However Texas kills both in technical proficiency

  • I LOVE THIS SHOW.

  • Sweet Selections from the 1999 Vanguard Show! Fabulous!

  • How long to they practice a week?

  • @xerxes876 they practice about 16-25 hours depending on whats happening..rain or snow lol

  • @coolness46123 man and we complained in Texas about rehearsal lol.

  • @coolness46123 wow only 8 hours in texas haha

  • @coolness46123 yeah i was in it lol...its pretty extreme but the staff is excellent and it rlly is a premium band program

and its definitely worth it at the end

  • @coolness46123 yeah i was in it lol...its pretty extreme but the staff is excellent and it rlly is a premium band program

and its definitely worth it at the end

  • @xerxes876 a ton! my friend was in the band last year and they practice soo much

  • @carolynwazhere man and we complain in Texas about rehearsal lol.

  • @xerxes876 haha yea, at my school we practice like maybe everythursday during football season and ppl complain haha

  • @carolynwazhere Are you from Texas? Here it is Illegal to practice over 8 hours a week after school.

  • @xerxes876 no, Indiana lol thats why i know avon well haha

  • Such an amazing band great job!! and to the previous comment i really believe that what the drum major was doing was amazing the expressions he gave towards the music really helps the audience feel the emotion of the music. Where is Avon High School at??

  • @zurizaday12 West side of Indianapolis. About 20 mins from Lucas Oil Stadium. They really are the host of BOA every year.

  • get a new drum magor

  • good job avon i marched lawrence central

  • wow this is awesome

  • To answer previous questions we have NEVER rented out Lucas Oil Stadium. I think Carmel may have borrowed the Colts practice field once so maybe that was where that came from. An no Richard Saucedo doesn't write our music.

  • @Blackcomic23 Sam Barber Castle played it in '01 Check that out

  • Gosh.... I've been watching the Japanese high school marching band competitions on youtube for a while now, and they make this look really amateurish...

  • @babyblue75 Appreciate this or not, I really don't care. But please don't start bashing marching band in America.

  • @babyblue75 So have I. But none of the ones ive seen come even close to this. First off, they're indoors. If they performed in a dome such as this, I can guarantee that they wouldn't sound as big as they do. Few of them experiment. This show made me stand up and cheer and NONE of the Japanese marching bands have yet to make me do that. If this band performed inside, youl probably go deaf. if they were the size of a Japanese band and performed in Japanese competition, they would do just as well.

  • @babyblue75 u serious?? look at the blue devils dude

  • @mariokart77 I think his idea is valid even thought it was presented rather rudely. His comment was directed towards marching band high schools, not DCI. My opinion is that Japan marching bands are much cleaner than US bands. Now does Japan have more resourses, funding, and time for music? Does USA have more emotion in their preformances? I don't know the answers, just areas for discussion. But one thing is for sure. These two are hard to compare, considering their different cultues.

  • @babyblue75 Some BOA Grand Nationals bands (including Avon) sound significantly better than the Japanese bands, not to knock Nishihara, which is a fantastic band. And with regards to your DCI comment, never try to compare Drum Corps and Marching Band. It's so much easier to blend brass with brass than brass with woodwinds, and Drum Corps can afford to be much more selective in auditions than high school bands (and most high schools do not hold competitive auditions for marching band spots).

  • @ILoveYouKennyDOaBR Well Said

  • @babyblue75 Man, you just don't get that Japenese bands aren't as good as Avon, or any band in the finals in indiana do you? Prove it.

  • @jacacriss Japanese bands kinda kick ass. plus they are 9 and 8 year old kids. then again we don't force my children to enjoy an activity like this..

  • @babyblue75

Because I'm just sure you're talking about Nishihara, I want you to think long and hard about how the music, visuals, and concept of this show compare to any Japanese band. I haven't seen anything this creative from a Japanese band.

By the way, being Japanese does not make a band good. The work put into it does.

  • Just so yall know every Great Band (Fwood Tx here) Idolizes the amazing bands like Avon, LdBell, Marcus...etc. Amazing Amazing amazing that highschool kids pull this off. Just out of curiosity does Richard Suacedo write your music? We have him write ours and mvmt 2 has the same solo part. Ours was an oboe playing but same melody.

  • damn, 6:33 epic echo.

i played slow eighth notes on that sound plate, and it sounded like RAHRAHRAHRAHRAH.

  • Aren't they a AA band?

  • is it true that avon sometimes rents the lucas oil stadium to practice in?

  • @penguinboy123456789 not even close to true

  • LD BELL :D great show...this year not so much....robbed it from Bell in 08 not happening again

  • @BeScared012 is their show of this year on youtube?

  • @BeScared012 so LD bell owns there own music not! Its highschool band kid no one cares who stole from what.

  • What is the warm up song they play at the begininng?

  • @Mojophoria Old Hundredth (hymn)

  • i'm really excited to see you guys this year!

  • Comment removed

  • @1544dan You've been marching for 18,094 years actually ;)

  • @Samonuh smart alikes unite :D

  • if only our school was this size, then we could do stuff like this..

  • God you guys rule. I can only imagine how hard you guys work to get this good. You deserve every win. What's the title of the music though?

  • Comment removed

  • 8:00 to the end, AWESOME GUYS!!!! love the end

  • @matty1mi I guess ill see you there, my band is probally going to be the smallest there.

  • And to think my school district wants to cut our music program D:

I wish we had the support these guys do...

  • @ThatGuyWithTehMusic Dude, if my school cut our program, I would personally protest that. I wouldn't go to f*cking school.

  • @ThatGuyWithTehMusic Dude, if my school cut our program, I would personally protest that. I wouldn't go to f*cking school.

  • @HHSMarchingIndian Ours got cut a while ago were completely self funded

  • Its Gay that only the biggest bands get the credit. there are good small class A bands.

  • @xxdkthxx While that is true that class A bands may have all the technical skill in playing and marching, you simply can't do as much with that small amount of people.

  • does b.o.a. happen every year? cus at my school we only do boa one year and uil the next year the continue the cycle

  • This is what happens when dedication, Full school administrative support, and crazy high band fees meet. The Avon program is a monster

  • Very awesome band, very awesome show - hopefully I'll get to meet some of them when my band and I go to Indy Regionals November 6th...Kettering Fairmont's pretty dominant most years here in Ohio, but damn...we haven't been able to hold a candle to Avon since All The Bells and Whistles...

  • @SSgtM60Kitten ill be in indy too

  • @langleyishappy Hope to see ya there! I'm a Sousa with KFHS ^^ Just ask for Cat Pounce XD

  • @SSgtM60Kitten im with hickory

  • The ending is pretty cool

  • the 2009 show is so much better than 2010 show

  • Like the ending, I don't like the last chord. GOOD SHOW

  • goota love the dumb bitch head banging and rocking out at the end

  • 8:00 - End. I just lost all bowel control.

  • Was that all avon had? really? BD has them this year

  • @Invader001 Great attitude, way to make "BD" look like the kind of band that should win anything.

  • @yomolob Its not about who should win its about who can really earn the title for the 2010 season

  • @Invader001 I was commenting about the what you said, and by the attitude conveyed in your earlier comment, BD won't be earning the title, that is, if everyone in that band has the same kind of attitude as you.

  • @yomolob Attitude =/= commitment to the band. Obviously i feel good about this season enough where i can brag about it. But ill let let Ben Davis High do the talking for me.

  • Wow! ... very impressive. You can see the influence of their directors backgrounds at play here .... The future of DCI, I dare say?

  • @MarineBugler Hope not.

  • START A DRUM CORPS DAMMIT

  • gosh the drum major is killin it.......he should teach me how to conduct like that lol i really love avon even tho i dont go there its one of my favorite high school marching band's

  • Best show ever. Arguably of course. But I've seen a lot and this one is definitely up there. The guard is incredible. The brass are piercing when they need to be and the woodwinds are gorgeous. This GE is astronomical. Wow. Avon is totally on fire.

  • what an AMAZING show Avon!

  • good job avon!

i loved that trumpet solo. and to this day, i get soooo many goose bumps. :D

can't wait to see you guys this year!

    -marian catholic high school member

  • @HorseLover4Ever1 Thanks! There arent alot of bands that are consistently good, but MC is deffinitly one of them! I cant wait to see your show!

  • BD will get them this year =P

  • I hear ya horns

  • I applaud this wonderful band for not relying on props to win their shows.

I have so often seen bands that win just because they use bouncy balls or thirty-foot words on the field. It's great to see a band that relies on precision, tone, and uniformity.

  • Great vid. Reliving the moment while the kids are at BC. The part at 8:30ish still brings tears to my eyes and gives me goosebumps... amazing. Thanks for sharing =)

  • Great show Avon! As a tenor (drums) player though, i wanna make one little comment about the bouncing while you march, it is quite noticable from up high. Still sounded incredible and congrats on the performance!!

  • who plays the trumpet solo at beginning

  • @1digidude Jordan Ghaim 1st, Scott Burns 2nd, Ryan Jones 3rd

  • @LionBaitProductions ok that makes sense because i saw the guy walking while the solo was playing and i thought the video audio was off or you guys were playing a soundtrack, thanks :)

  • Super clean, but just a rip off of Santa Clara Vanguard 1999. Heard the intro, I was like okay I've heard this song before. Heard the ballad, then I skipped to the end to see which song was the closer. Every song was from SCV.

  • @contras0p dude its just a high school band, if it was a dci band doing this then yes a total rip off, but tones of high school bands play same stuff that dci bands do.

  • @1digidude It would be one thing for them to use songs from different corps but its a rip off when everything is exactly the same, including the order of songs. Btw, I dont really care so much, but most people in drum corps hate it when drum corps is referred to as "band".

  • @contras0p Referring to the order, this is all Samuel Barber's 1st symphony. Avon didn't copy Santa Clara, they played it in the order that the song was written. They didn't copy Santa Clara's music, they played Samuel Barbers 1st symphony, which sounds like the same thing that Santa Clara didin 1999.

  • @contras0p Just checked, their music was The canyon, symphony 1 (SB), symphony 2 (SB), and Blue Shades. Avons music was symphony 1 and 2 by Samuel Barber. The canyon was also played by Lawrence Central in 2008 (Possibly under a different name, I'm not sure). And I'm sure Blue Shades has also been played by many bands also.

  • @contras0p Last comment. Just watched Santa Clara. They play The Canyon, then Symphony 1 part 1, then a part of symphony 2, then part 4, then part 3, then Blue Shades. Avon played Symphony 1 part 1, then part 2, then part 3, then Symphony 2, then part 4. So the order was completly different.

  • @contras0p I don't understand what your point is. We played work from Samuel Barber, so did they. Is there something wrong with that? Do you know how many repeats of music there are? Unless its original music (which I believe Carmel won with in 2005), its all copied.

  • @LionBaitProductions Hey, my bad dude. you're correct. It makes since that its not a rip off, since they just played symphony 1 and 2. A rip off could have had blue shades, and the canyon.

I prefer original music for marching programs because of this. Although I wouldn't really consider playing the music from Frameworks or Spin Cycle as a show would be a rip off, since they've only been played by one group before.

  • Avon, the pride of Indiana!

  • Nicely done Avon band! :)

  • how many people where in this band

  • @Firebird09100 239, including drumline and guard.

  • @Firebird09100 Close to 300
