Macca is very talented man, much underated by most english people as they dont appreciate success. When he is dead they will apprecaite him more than they know, and they will all say how wonderful he was, as they did with Lennon when he got murdered, prior to his death the average person in England thought Lennon had gone mad, left the Beatles and run off with some mad asian women. Lennon himself wrote "everybody loves you when your six foot underground" how right he was!!!
Paul said he thought it was kinda 'unusual' t release a Scottish ballad in the middle of a techno electronic sound effects era, but though oh well and released it anyway. The bagpipers he played with, all Scottish, told him "this un's a number one hit" and their prediction came true! People always make better music than a machine
Somebody earlier said that Mull of Kintyre was n't up to Beatles standards, yet it was a near worldwide #1, the 1st song to sell over 2 million in the UK and was the ALL time best selling song in Britain until 1984. Sounds pretty Beatles quality to me!!
@12jimmyk UUUm, yes, I know this. What I was saying is that someone had said this wasn't up to beatles standards. my reply was judging by it's sales and it's chart, it was pretty Beatle quality. I found it bizarre that you felt the need to chide me, but if it makes you feel better, then okay.
Great song, but too bad Denny Laine didn't get more credit for his major part in creating the tune and lyrics. I try to like Linda, but never got the hairstyle she wore in the 70's or the way she portrays herself, as in this video.
It is a pitty that McCartney have not spent much of his time to folk songs, during his carreer. He would certainly compose other wonderful tunes like this.
I'm not a Scot, though I have been to the Mull of Kintyre, but this just sends shivers down my back and brings tears to my eyes - what a moving piece it is!!
did you know Denny Laine started this song off because Paul used to take the band to his farm and there was nothing to do so Denny on another boring night founded the song off called bore of kintyre Paul later bought Denny's rights from the song!
in 77 punks hated this one... it s a good song ... some early 70s rockers start to sound heavier in 77 just to show that they are not that old... but Macca just dont care... He do what he want... and not what some people expected from him... and he proof in the 79 Wings LP that he knows how to rock harder as well... this is a real free man!
ahah i was just thinkin about black rappers (or Pakistanis) with this song loud into the stereo of their jumpin car...
WHY DON'T YOU STOP BEING SO IGNORANT AND ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE MY FRIEND. THE REAL PAUL MCCARTNEY DIED IN 1966 AND WAS REPLACED BY THE ACTOR WILLIAM CAMPBELL WHO HAD PLASTIC SURGERY TO LOOK JUST LIKE HIM OK. THERE ARE MANY EVIDENCES OF THIS, ONE IS THAT AT THE END OF THE SONG STRAWBERRY FIELDS JOHN LENNON ACTUALLY SAYS "I BURIED PAUL" SO THERE, THERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE.
@NormbrettaMod Ok so you think Paul Died. I remember the conspiracy theories but let me ask you this much. They get some guy called William Campbell in, give him plastic surgery and 'replace' Paul. This William Campbell goes on to write and record and play live..oh and his songs are just as amazing as Paul's. WHY would anyone go to such trouble??
He should at least find a woman his own age. That relationship was doomed. All these old guys looking to recapture their youth. But a prenup is essential too.
I agree, but it seems like a lot of famous pop stars, initially marry someone near their own age, but later when they get divorced they do look for much younger women; Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, McCartney & many more. I guess it boils down to they can really marry just about anyone they choose & they do. Not to say they don't have feelings for these much younger women but as the relationship grows &`dealing with the every day life situations, the age difference ultimately (does make a difference).
As a yank, this song made me realise how moving bagpipes are. I have since gone out and bought every bagpipe CD available. (Amazing Grace on the pipes? Turns me to mush. -Oh! look at the 230 pound gorilla weeping like a girl!!)
Anyway, I just wanted to say it takes a Scotsman to play the pipes.
Is this a lip sync? Look at 1:00 when he taps the guitar, it's slightly out of time, and sounds exactly as the tapping on the record. also the intro vocals do sound almost exactly the same as the studio version
