Sickening criminal neglect and starvation! At 1:30 minutes, foal trying to nurse from the mare who is still hooked to a cart - left there like that for God only know how long. Please tell me HOW these horrific things go on! Were these poor suffering horses saved and helped?? If not, then WHY not?? There is NO reason or excuse for neglect and abuse such as this. Those responsible for the abuse need to be locked up, in a tiny, junky space with nothing but dirt to lay on, eat and toilet on. GRRR!
those two babies :'( .... thats a very dangerous living pasture (junk yard?) they were put into ... hope you taught those people some stuff or saved some of those horses???
i was from there- know people who try to help them.... no one has commented on this, just stating how sorry they are........has anyone approached the jockey club of south africa...or national thoroughbred trust (something like that)??? as 99% of these horses are GIVEN to them to decrease the number of ex- racehorses their racing yards are inundated with- cry and cry- this is nothing (video) to the horror facing these ex- racers- so thanks to jockey club etc, their "lovely" future is sealed....
this made me cry and like i said so many little girls would be very happy if they got even one of thous horses but selfish people sit there and laugh cuz the horse couldnt stand
These horses are just existing in pastures that are basically trash dumps. The people who own and rely on these horses also live in squalor. They probably watch their kids grow up in garbage infested areas. Why should they expect better for work animals than their own children? I couldn't call this abuse, but poverty effects even the animals. Honestly I was expecting more of these horses to be a lot thinner. Many of them were in acceptable weight.
@jmdnarri How true, you are very insightful! In this rich land of diamonds, gold, and coal, human beings are themselves expendable! Let's encourage those who have built vast fortunes on their backs to spend a few Kruggerands on education, opportunity, and infrastructure. Save the people of Soweto and they will in turn save the horses. i wonder who owns the coal?
I think its fair to say they don't know, and they don't care to know. If you say the horses don't look that bad then you know very little to 0 about horses. I am a trainer, and I devote myself to aid horses with traumatic experiences and neglect. The eyes of these ones are without hope and pain. The environment they are kept in is terrible, and their bodies/spirits reflect that. There is only so far ignorance can carry you and the basics of that is, would I want to live in that? No. Easy enough.
@DarkGodSusanowo makes you wonder how these horses haven't ripped themselves apart on the machinery and garbage.I couldn't live with myself to put my animals in that situation but what do you except from a nation that doesn't want to change?really they don't so fuck them
@DarkGodSusanowo i agree and also took care of horses before, whatever ignorant asshole says "they dont look to bad" is stupid they probably are bloated like kids in 3rd world countries because they are starved how stupid to say something like that
It looks like these people try to treat them to the best of their abilities. It could have been worse, and except for infections, these horses look like they have a decent life
Unlike the us/europe, they can't afford top notch stables and hay, they're depending on the horses for their income
Some of the wounds on these horses looked like they had the start of infection. This made me cry, but hopefully since this video has been taken, these horses have received medical attention.
i dont think the horses look that bad sure the pastures look like hell and maybe the horse with the sore on his back needs a break and a little med. treatment
I think that some of the comments made are harsh, it unfair to say these people are purposefully neglecting their horses, as they merely just don't know how to look after them. They need help from the ILPH etc to teach them how to treat them, theres nothing wrong with working horses, but people who own them need help.
These horses pull carts everyday full of coal. I think these people need some form of education on animal treatment. Some of this neglect is mere ignorance. I think the South African RSPCA needs to do something about this
this is shocking and it must stop. i am thinking of running an event in aid of the ILPH but i need permission from the yard manager. if a person is made to work, almost worldwide it is just common sense to make sure that they are healthy. if horses are worked whilst ill or when they are still developing the life expectancy will deteriorate and the company will run out of money. the pain that so many horses (and other animals) are forced to go through is unbearable.
God the conditions these horses are kept is very discusting, and the horses themselves are in poor shape, but still kept in work! sickening...they shouldnt be breeding anymore untill all the other horses they have are in better condition!!! poor mares and foals...i hope a solution is found and these horses are rescued from further abuse...this has to stop...NOW.
Omg not the baby horses! Heartbreaking!!!

This is shocking to view. Animal cruelty is a terrible thing. I hope that something can be done to help these poor creatures.
