I very much enjoyed it. It's hard to find someone on YouTube who doesn't plow through it or slow the tempo to a ridiculous crawl. From the recording, the mallet choice sounds like it fits the style, but I guess it's just the recording.
I much prefer it at this speed, it loses the tango feel when played too fast. Glad someone else feels the same, most videos everyone moans that it should be faster.
A little slow, but you did a great job playing it. If it were at full tempo there would have been mistakes. This will be quite helpful in learning this piece, knowing what it sounds like at a slower tempo rather than full speed.
You think so? I've pretty much given up on those, they sound and feel very thin to me. But if you like it... haha. They're IP275's and I think a 300 in mallet 4.
if you have a 4.3 it never goes above the C below the top octave. you can move the entire thing up one octave. That's what I had to do when I learned it until we got a 5 octave.
While it's admittedly a little cautious, it's overall quite impressive. Too many people slam through this piece, but you have a really nice sound and, for the most part, maintain the groove necessary to pull this off. Good job! =)
No. He knew he probably wouldn't let me in before I played a note. He told me after the camp that the playing was great but I need to go a little bit lower, to somewhere more highschool friendly. Kinda lame, but it makes sense. I just figured I'd start at the top.

Yeah, I almost prefer it slower, at least in some spots. The groove dies the faster it gets.

I do plan on learning this solo, but don't have access to a 5-octave.
scifidrummergeek 2 years ago
That could prove to be detrimental.

May I ask what mallets you are using? They have a good sound for this solo.
