i have a begrudging likeness for hitch.
he can argue his points brilliantly but he defends america as if jefferson was just after finishing his draft. his support of the iraq war ,which he has nothing to do with jihad terrorism, stinks of class and intellectual self -righteousness.
yeah, quite a bit of anti semitism everywhere. i havent found hitchens to be anti semitic at all, though. disagreeing with israel is not anti semitic.
I just tuned in at this part, part 7. Most people don't know that Hitchens is Jewish. He has a Jewish mother. Might want to remember that when he tries to convince you this isn't about Israel.

"Despite pre and post war bungles we are now protecting a quasi democratic Iraq from the parties of god. A failure in which the leadership of Iran, China, and Russia would delight."
I disagree with Hitchens about Chris Hedges. Hedges can write and he can argue. He may not be entirely correct on his judgement and general opinion of the war on terror, but he's sure closer to being right on Iraq than Hitchens is.
Nonsense. I watched the Hedges v. Hitchens debate and Hitch tore the floor off Hedges' phoney moral relativism!
The funny thing is Hedges was an enthusiastic supporter of intervention in Bosnia and Kosovo before he became an apologist for terror. God is not Great has far more literary and philosophical merit than Hedges' awful, paranoid and tediously written 'Christian Fascism' book.
The problem is that so-called 'religious liberals' in the mould of Hedges are just as dangerous as the theocrats: it is they who give the religious nutjobs a respectable mask to hide behind, and they who make excuses for the nutjobs embrace of violence and indiscriminate killing of civilians.
You give me the impression that you've never actually read anything Hedges has ever written about Islamofascism. Misscaracterisation and strawman can only take you so far I'm afraid.
The word is 'mischaracterization' actually, a practice you seem to indulge for both Hedges and Hitch.
Once Hedges began supporting suicide bombings and providing excuses for jihad, it was time to turn off. Reading through his tedious 'American fascists' book my decision is proved justified. I have no time for evangelicals, but to suggest that these ludicrous and laughable people are equivalent to the Taliban is either delusional or wilful islamic propaganda on Hedges' part.
«Once Hedges began supporting suicide bombings and providing excuses for jihad, it was time to turn off.»
A-ha, but here's the problem. He's done no such thing, regardless of how eager you are to turn everyone who ports a slightly different opinion into an obstacle.
Watch the Hitch-Hedges debate, or the Harris-Hedges debate, which you quite clearly haven't. You'll find excuses for suicide bombings and terror attacks aplenty, and a good dose of religious apologetic for good measure. Hardly a 'slightly different opinion' to Hitchens by any standard.
Hitch makes more sense on evangelicals in a few minutes in Video 17 on this site than Hedges in the whole rambling edifice of his American Fascists book.
I've seen the debate. For the record, I usually gobble up anything that involves Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris or Hedges as soon as it becomes available. Hedges does survey a different explanation and view, concerning jihadism, but to call any of it «apologetic» requires a good amount of fully intended malice. I suppose, about the same amount needed to say that a Pulitzer prize winner can't write.
Hedges makes so many excuses for Islamic violence that it is only possible to conclude that you watched the debate with the sound turned off. But you are wilfully dissimulating now - his apologies for islamists such as Hamas and Hezbollah have been continuing for years.
Malign is a term that you ought to be applying, if you had any judgement worth the name, to Hedges' poorly written book review, presumably a reflection of sour grapes that he came off so much worse in the debate with Hitch.
'about the same amount needed to say that a Pulitzer prize winner can't write.'
Actually about the same amount to say that a Nobel Peace Prize winner (you know who I mean) was not a man of peace.
As you know, Hedges didn't win the PP outright - he was part of several journalists on the NYT team. And if ever there was a politically motivated award (in the wake of 9/11), this was it.
If I can ignore your histrionics, I'll say that I think Hitchens isn't as good as debating as he is writing - where his true strength lies. He did however out-debate Hedges, which is really no compliment when you consider how much stronger and logically sound his initial atheist and non-religious position is than Hedge's. Now in the Harris Hedges debate - yes - there I saw some serious floor mopping of the moderate religious POV.
He wouldn't be able to do that if he was sober. So what? He writes brilliant and poignant books. What are u? Some obsessed loser on the Internet who has nothing better to do but stalk all of Hitches videos and feebly try to mock him. You're so pathetic. Get a life and stop making an ass of yourself here.
You don't know me. But you have exposed your pathetic self on this site enough for anyone to call you what you are. An obsessed loser. You know it. I know it. Everyone who sends you pity comments knows it. You're pretty fucked up to enjoy getting humilitated on the Internet by people who are smarter and less-obsessed than you are.
"You're pretty fucked up to enjoy getting humilitated on the Internet by people who are smarter and less-obsessed than you are."
Actually, most of the people who interact with me on here are fanboys like yourself who are a lot less smart then they think they are. And my own personal shortcomings, whatever they may be, do not make Hitch correct about the Glorious War.
I'm not a fanboy because I enjoy watching a few Hitch vids. I haven't seen alot but you have been on everyone that I have watched. Anyone who devotes an entire account to one individual is stupid and obsessed. It's that simple dude.
Good argument. You are apparently bankrupt. Get a life and then resume the attack on Hitchens. People will question your motives until you demonstrate that you have any good points against Hitchens. Believe me, I am willing to hear what you have to say.

So this is what it's come to? I always have time for intellectual discussions. Or if I'm in the mood, I love to point and laugh at obsessed losers that cross my path. That is always acceptable when in moderation. I don't do this often but you have come across as such an obsessed loser that I felt compelled to point it out.
