  • Antoine t'es le roi de la guitar!

  • he has nails like a classical guitarist :)

  • Advertisement at 0:49. :/

    But amazing as always.

  • I don't understand why everyone gets caught up on who likes what on this site. What's important is that you like it... Not someone else. There will always be people like that and if you can't get over it, you're going to be frustrated a lot and for what? Great song/artist by the way.

  • I'm not going to make a lame joke. I'm not going to say anything about Justin Bieber.

I will; however, ask what in the flying fuck is wrong with the people that disliked this video?

This is emotion. This is love. This is art.

I guess everyone's entitled to an opinion, but the fact that there's a single dislike dissapoints me.

  • Definitely amazing, but his right hand nails are like witches nails.

  • God hes so FUCKING AMAZING

  • Comment removed

  • He makes that look so easy

  • I can play 3:02 to 3:07 bitches!

  • i really love nail attacks and harmonics

  • i would cut my left hand off to play like him

  • @ssddffgghhjjkkll you couldn't play then ;P

  • i would cut my left had off to play like him

  • the most renound melody to go with such a trance like rythem. A big eye opener for me being a musician on limits as far as progressions and rythems go, thank you Antoine very much

  • I think its ridiculous how the messed up 1 second long video of this song has more views then this functional version. XD

  • It's amazing how many things he can do at once. Especially the last part where he alternates knocking on the top and at the base of the guitar, his hand just happens to pass the strings at the right time to strum... all while his left hand is playing an independent melody. Ridiculous.

  • There are some who can play guitar... and there are others who are 'meant' to play guitar

  • I bet I will get thumbs up for this smart comment....the joy of youtube

  • REALLY digging the wide variety of sonic textures in this piece !

strum, fingerpick, tap, slap, knock, harmonic, wow.

  • This is one of my favorites. he couldn't play it with any more feeling, the guitar would just melt

  • Man.....the music is so true, all the feelings are perfectly right

  • And justin bieber is making a movie... Im disgusted. Antoine could fight depression with his songs

  • Nobody plays like Antoine, his style is truly unique. He's one of my favorite guitarists.

  • Wow, great playing but fantastically recorded. Anyone knows if these are valve mics?

  • @snipperacoustics I think thats was a Mxl V67.

  • it amazes me how someone like this guy can be so real & people don't like him. oh well. too legit fo niggas too fuck wit~

  • Only deaf people could dislike this video.

  • it's upsetting how good his right hand technique is. Seriously.

  • @comeh123 I know right. His hand is so relaxed and articulate, but so precise when hitting the strings

  • @3:00

  • Dude's got a coke nail for the ages..

  • Wow, amazing.. I love the way the percussion sounds like a heart. Beautiful!

  • SoME SAY that the Stig fears Antoine !!!!! :)

  • I have to admit that I don't like that some of dufours songs don't really end they just fade out. It just seems like he couldn't be bothered finishing it

  • I believe this is played much slower than the original....

  • THANK YOU YOUTUBE! I'M GLAD THERE'S A PLACE WHERE I WON'T BE FORCED TO LISTEN TO JUSTIN BEIBER, RIHANA AND OTHER 'POPULAR' MUSIC!

  • now i understand why andy mckee went bald !

  • DAMIT 0:14 to 0:17 that riff thing i was playing a couple days ago an i thought i made up, but i guess i love this song so much it stuck with me from a month ago when i 1st saw this.

  • @ZacVrono Hahaha that happens to me too... The second I figure out something cool that i'm happy with, I realize exactly where i've stolen it from. :D

  • Beautiful, I listen to this tune so often. It inspired me to create my own tune 'Walking On Air', also with some percussion added to it.

  • Amazing!!! Does anybody know were i can get one of those guitar lifters from?

  • @MrCoreyrm its called an ergoplay. google it.

  • Amazing!!! Does anybody know were i can get one of those guitar lifters from?

  • the ending from 3:00 is amazing, sounds like a beating heart :D

  • absolutely this goes into your heart

  • i love all of your song i always but one of your song 2 play and put it so loud that i can do my own shit at the same time ;D

  • when God wants to show that it exists, no way.

  • @felipecei i think you mean when He exists

  • Man.. he can find harmonics anywhere

  • @sk8foodtv There are harmonics everywhere. You just need to know how to play them.

  • @sk8foodtv well he is rumoured to be part robot what with his flawless technique and fancy songs

  • When I was young, I met Rock and Metal, I never regret that, when I met this kind of music and started to play that also, it made my life better and those guys in Candyrat and elsewhere who play these kinda music make me say that I smile that we have a proper musicians. Me like any1 else here agree that they should be famous, but maybe they don't care, maybe they just like to play infront of 500-1000 people, and that makes them happy.

  • @stebbifreakout It might interest you to know Antoine Dufour and Andy Mckee are metal heads too :)

  • @sk8foodtv Because they are everywhere....

  • I wish I had a fraction of his abilities as a musician, Amazing.

And what kind of person dislikes this?

  • I wonder, does antoine find time to do other stuff.... you know, like sleep....

  • Beautiful, especially the last part. it inspired me to compose my own track 'Walking On Air'.

  • my favorite musician other than shane barnard.. dear lord i love this song sooo much

  • Now, this music is into my heart.

  • the end of this song sounds like a heart beating

  • why did the one second video of this get more views than this video!?

  • @ploky123 something happened to it, it used to be a full video.

  • @ploky123 cause the first one is a second long now for some reason

  • All the boys of the candyrat label are genius musicians, but I must say Antoine is exceptionally fucking brilliant..

  • how! how do you come up with this music! please tell me is there any hint to get on a track and make such beutiful music. Or do u just hear it in your head??

  • @MultiSteini jamming, playing and practicing... And suddenly it pops into your head<3

  • He's just too Amazing. God bless him

  • When i first fell in love, i used to listen to this song, Antoine has harnessed the essence of that emotion in his music, and i truly envy him for that skill. This song helps me to remember what i had. Thank you Antoine, keep up the good work, your music is amazing.

  • just amazing!!! the ending is magic!!!

  • I can't stop listening to this song. Straight up masterpiece.

  • 3:02 - 4:36

  • HOW DO YOU DO THAT FINGER RAKE THING?

    It is very knacky.

  • @CardPiranha It's called rasqueado (spelling might be off). Force your four fingers outward, and then upstroke with your index for the 5th hit. It's considered bad technique to flick your fingers out from behind your thumb.

Make sure to start off slow so you get the finger strength to emphasis each hit. You're supposed to hear 5 very distinct hits.

  • what is the tuning on your guitar?

  • @TheUnseenGaze Low to High: D A C F C E. All his tunings on his site, antoinedufourmusic . com under the FAQ section (among other things).

  • The timing is outstanding between the different beats. I love the rythm and style. The accents about 3/4 through the song are beautiful. Thanks for the great music.

  • long ass finger nail O_O

  • Also, another question, ahah. He slaps a high fret at about 0:32 and also 0:35 and he does it agian through that little rift he plays. How does it make it sound so good? How does he do it? because when I do it, it sounds like poo, aha.

  • @JujitzuNinja same here! i it sounds so lame when i do it, like im just making sh-bleahhk on the strings and it's lame.... i wish i knew also haha

  • @JujitzuNinja It is a combination of knowing how to do it (certain frets make that sound, while others sound like poo) and the fact that his guitar has an ungodly sound. a cheap guitar won't sount that good, even if you know what you're doing.

  • how does he make that "tinky" sound? it's like.. not a note but... yeah, how does he do it? does he lightly touch the string?

  • @JujitzuNinja I'm not sure what you're talking about. It seems you could be talking about a harmonic (which uses notes), or the sound the strings makes when they hit the fretboard when he hits them with his thumb. I don't know if you're familiar with harmonics, but if not then the opening notes in Cold Day by Antoine Dufour are harmonic notes.

  • @MrRigRar Yeaaaah! That's it, at the very start of Cold Day, the first 3 sounds or so that he makes.. how does he do that?

  • @JujitzuNinja He lightly touches the string and then plucks, but there's more to it than that. It matters where you touch the string. For example if you touch the string above the 12th fret you will get a harmonic that is the same note as that string is tuned to (but an octave higher), and the 12th fret is the point cuts the string in evenly in half. Google harmonics, there are lots of in-depth articles and how-to's.

  • @JujitzuNinja

    natural harmonic.

  • I officially declare this the coolest (like in -273C), tune of the year. So much feeling, musicality, flawless technique - blew my mind.

  • does somebody know the tuning for this song?

  • I wish Antoine's music would personify itself in the form of a woman so I could marry her. <3

  • @NedMcPhie oh man, she would be perfect

  • My goodness he has such long finger nails O.O I know that's for helping to play fingerstyle and such but I couldn't be bothered to grow mine lol hate long nails xD amazing for himt o keep them that long on his right hand.

  • @DriedGooshies I'm quite sure they're acrylic nails, like you would get at a salon. :)

  • @RatioofTime That's what i was thinking too!! acrylic nails! Tha'ts my guess anyway but some people do grow out their nails on the hand they use to finger pick with.

  • @DriedGooshies

Yeah, I tried doing it one time (growing out my nails) but it ended in a bloody mess. You have to have thick nails or else they break easy and it's painful. Acrylic is amazing.

  • @DriedGooshies He uses acrylic nails.

  • This is my favorite Candyrat song, hands down. It has been for years. I wish he wouldn't have been so conservative around the tension area at 3:00 in this recording...I wanted to hear the emotions explode!

  • now this is why i wake up in the morning and grab my guitar because i aspire to be as good and have as much feeling in music as this guy to have as much skill and dedication to get to this level would be my dream

  • i had a headache and this cured it

  • I love the liberty that goes along with composing a song like this one on the acoustic because it gives you the liberty to write bass and treble parts, but theres also a magic that happens when you get a band together to play. Both are great, in my opinion :)

  • i keep wondering who the hell dislikes this guy.

  • Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great work antoine. So much feeling!! just luv it.

  • so good....

  • the only downfall to playing like this is the edward scissorhands nails -_- albeit necessary still kind of gross. still thumbs up though =)

  • my favorite guitarist.. By far

  • This isn't music... It's more than that

  • Been a fan for years. GO ANTOINE!

  • gah i know how to play the song, but that percussion he does until the end of the song is so difficult! you have to time it perfectly each time

  • @Anim8edDeath

I've been playing for like 30 years now and when I go to play the ending on this song it sounds like I've only picked up a guitar last week : P

  • 2:00 harmonic mistake :D

  • @koulatos You're a mistake, koulatos.

BRAVO, Antoine! Votre musique est tellement fantastique. Mes félicitations et merci beaucoup.

  • yeep true;p :)

  • its not a mistake

  • koulatos, where is your video so we can watch it and then criticize you?

It amazes me how all the critics come out of the woodwork, and they probably can't even play simple cowboy chords!

Quit criticizing, and learn how to play yourself, how do I know that you cannot play?

Because if you were a musician, you would not be criticizing in the first place, you would simply enjoy!

  • is it just me or does this recording sound alot less warm than the youtube version?

  • true master of his craft and instrument

  • this is music

  • @NerraDarreN

    it's good music

  • @NerraDarreN Well said.

  • for me it's a beautiful picture of two heartbeats together

  • I'm a tommy emmanuel fanboy really.

but when i saw antoine dufour playing a year ago, his technique blinded me. It is art.

  • @J0sA1Ac

    omg ur so deep

  • does anyone know what sorta tuning this is played in?

  • low to high DACFCE fucking sick song

  • immense

  • love this track!

  • @lumbanator MANTRACKER!

  • this dude is basically my inspiration for playin guitar.. he influenced my style so much its rediculous KEEP IT UP MY BOY

  • Talk to my friend Ron. He was influenced so much by Antoine that he learned a new style of "guitar." Maybe you should think about that before claiming what is and what is not a valid way to play an instrument. Harumph!

  • Die in a hole

  • I love it at 3:02 when he makes a heart beating effect on the guitar, it's great

  • I want to know what he uses the rag for. Does he use the bandanna tied to his headstock to clean his hands between takes? Perhaps to give him longer lasting strings?

  • capoman1,

The strings behind the nut vibrate from playing the guitar - if you listen closely while you're playing you can actually hear the chiming - the rag dampens that unwanted sound.

  • he says it helps with some of the resonance from the strings... so it actually serves a purpose

  • the harmonics in this song are sick

  • Comment removed

  • he just puts on a new one xD we replace strings.. he replaces strings and nails..

  • @unshutoptic1

he sure does mate, just like every other guitarist that uses them. i always get pissed off when they break

  • Comment removed

  • lol

  • he uses fake acrylic nails lol. he probably wouldn't care.

  • Someday i will play this... im sure of it

    master piece.. just beautifull

  • It's not a very hard song! Just buy the tabs and work at it, you'd be surprised at how quickly you'll get it ;)

  • *****

    Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ♥.♥.♥.♥

  • ?? whats with the rag?

  • the heared "delay" are just his hammer ons

  • It's a Michael Hedges technique. =)

  • Gorgeous! Rhythmically complex and melodic.

  • oh my godd how a music can be so beautiful like thisss perfectttt superbbbb !!!!

  • Not a fan of the delay, music is perfect though

  • My mystake, somethins up at my end. Wierd how its in time with this song, I was about to retract my statement and say it fitted the end of the song.

  • @ANIMVL

    lol wtf haha

and where, exactly, did u hear a delay effect??

  • delay? You mean acoustic guitar regular sound?

  • omg I cant believe that what a amazing song that I ever heard. When I listen this song something goes into my heart...

  • Incredible song, seems more like a conversation.. how comes that you found that amazing end for that song ? im really impressed. Very beautyful

  • Beautiful*

  • What an amazing piece, and BEAUTIFUL-sounding guitar!

  • I have a friend (who doesn't play guitar) who insists that Eric Clapton is the epitome of a guitarist. Not that I don't respect Clapton, but I've never heard him play like Dufour or Hedges. I feel sorry for the musically challenged that can't, or won't, see the amount of skill that goes into playing a piece of music like this.

  • not just play it... but to write a piece like this, that is the real challenge... that is why i respect guys like Dufour, simply amazing. :D

  • It's a different genre. You wouldn't compare van Gogh to Picasso, would you?

  • yeah they both suck. Caravaggio rulez.

  • defietly more skiled then clapton i say that proudly

  • Comment removed

  • @ddcain2003 Eric Clapton is amazing, he has proven to be a great guitarist and great song writer, even his instrumental stuff is pretty darn good. Antoine isn't a blues player but i have no doubt in my mind that he can play the blues just as good or even better than clapton, both show emotion in their music. Antoine is a very highly skilled guitarist who in my opinion is also better than Clapton if compared but remember Clapton never had any teachers he taught himself right from the start.

  • @CoreyTB1 Andy Mckee never had a teacher. Maneli Jamal never had a teacher. They are both more skilled than Clapton (No disrespect to him, I like him a lot, but I'm just telling it how it is). Maneli's peice "Norym" I think is the most expressive peice of music I have ever heard, but the expressivness/emotion of a song is entirely subjective. But Antoine is more skilled definately, as skill can be measured (more easily than emotion anyway)

  • @GarretsShadow@ddcain2003@CoreyTB1

Peoples have to stop making that little competition between artists ''antoine is better than clapton'' etc etc music is a way to express not a ticket to enter in a talent competition. just enjoy . skills dont bring up emotion. its what they can acheive with their skills what brings emotion.

  • @RiouxItsMe Totally agree, what I was trying to say was that some people are very skilled without a teacher and that the quality of the music is down to your personal taste

  • @GarretsShadow What units of measurement do we measure skill in??? jk. Although, I feel that Maneli is the better of the 3. I love Antoine (he got me started), but as a composer, I tend to stray away from strophic music. Antoine=terribly strophic usually. Maneli I feel, has a more through-composed style. This is all subjective though...

  • @CoreyTB1 I meant no disrespect towards Clapton, I love listening to him jam as well as SRV and other Blues greats.

  • @ddcain2003 also they both play 2 very different styles. Clapton will always be my hero and favourite guitarist but Antoine definitely is the most skilled guitarist I've ever seen

  • @ddcain2003 I feel your pain buddy. When you see some guy with a cheap electric guitar playing the intro to "smoke on the water" and everyone nearby is like "WOW OMG" it makes me want to tear my hair out

  • @ddcain2003 I agree with you 110 percent, but some people like it simpler than this. This kind of stuff can be a lot to follow no matter how beautiful it is. I think thats where people like Clapton win - a song like crossroads is very easy to understand musically compared to something like this. No doubt though, technically and from a musical standpoint - this kind of shit does circles around 99 percent of stuff today. He is incredible.

  • @ddcain2003 Neither you or your friend is wrong, they play two completely different styles and in my opinion they are some of the best guitarists at what they do.. I'm rather sick of all the debating over youtube about who is better, I wish people just took music for what it is instead of arguing. We're only on this earth for a short period of time, and when I listen to music time stands still.. lets just all just learn to simply listen and maybe we can agree that it's time to stop arguing.
