  • Good job!

You guys really capture the feel of those films wonderfully!!

  • @pauldavidwright42 Thanks Paul!

This is what we set out to do :-)

  • WTF lol

  • Good job! Ingenious. I was transported back to 1957!

  • @conewells

THANKS!! Then my work here is done.... [riding off in the B&W sunset!]

  • You'll have to wait until 2025 for the sequel...

  • wow all the good movies are in the 50's

  • @JKennah63

    Glad you likd it!

I'm working on it now! :-)

  • Imagine the buzz of such cicadas. It would REALLY BE killer.

  • It may not exist, but there is a movie about giant grasshoppers by Bert i. Gordon.

  • "Its THEM!! THEM!!... wait, those are bugs, not ants. I'm in the wrong movie."

Is crushed by falling styrofoam meant to look like cinder blocks.

  • Very funny.

  • i know what can be done use really big bug spray

  • you just dont see good movies like this any more

  • This I would watch in Cinema Insomnia.

Also I think the biggest danger they would pose would be the noise..Oh the noise!

  • @Perktube1

you know, that is something I never thought about....you are totally right! That sound they make would be crazy!!! It would shatter windows!

  • @scope235 Yeah that would be their main weapon. And at the end of the film, when they die off, the leading guy would kiss the girl he rescued and say something like,

'We're safe now darling...for another seventeen years." Cue dramatic anxiety raising music over the word,"THE END???"

  • @Perktube1 Brilliant!!

May I use this idea? :-)

  • @scope235 Sure..I'm too poor to afford a copyright =oP

  • @Perktube1

    :-)

  • you can clearly see those bugs are walking on a picture

  • @jaguar4u2

thats the whole point..that is exactley how they did these movies in the 1950's..thus I succeeded!!

    thats for noticing.

  • MOTHERS!!! SAVE YOUR CHILDREN!!!!!

  • what the

  • That was really good! but, try work on your 1950s voice :)

  • its a real movie!

  • @xxkatherine2996xx Not yet it isn't...but it soon will be :-)

  • Haha, this is awesome. I like how you made it like every other 50s movie. :p

  • @MoltoEpicness THANKS!!

  • the effects are too high tech hahaha

  • higurashi just went OVER 9000

  • yahh i know they suck :(

  • young lovers would be atacked anyway,by paig goverment thug assholes, aka cops

  • Well done...Think I'll try making my own B grade movie trailer.

  • this is great

  • This is truly awesome. Great job.

  • @agnernai THANKS!!

  • I'm from Kansas..These things are incredibly NOISY! You could have had a scene with people holding their ears and screaming in agony at the ear-piercing shrill sound they make increased a thousand-fold! Short of that, excellent video! You certainly captured the feel of those 1950's movies! I would watch it if you made a full-length feature!

  • @iamthesun62

I would love to make this a full length picture!!

  • @iamthesun62 good thinking about the people holding their ears.

  • There was a 50s B movie about giant grass hoppers. They ate their way north from cnetral illinois up to Chicago.

  • @DSmith99000 That's:The Beginning Of The End 1957

  • Did You Made It Up?

  • @BosskAndIG88 Yep! I made this up, its based upon the 17-year locusts we get here in the midwest...

  • Is This A Real Movie '-'

  • not yet..but it's in the works!! :-)

  • @BosskAndIG88 its not a real movie for release YET..but soon :-)

  • roflmao

  • How do they become killer?

those insects are powerful than the Bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    can stop or not?

  • no man can stop them!

    Extraterreastial alians made them big!!

  • this looks great... I love these types of movies.. I was wondering how your miniature city was created... I am debating on trying to sell a script in this genera but my teacher said he would love to help... He told me to glue some printed out photos of buildings and put them on boxes and it looks a bit like you did that here also and Idk it would look as good

  • well..thats EXACTLEY what I did! Took high-rez digital photos of various buildings, printed them out on 8 1/2" x 11" photo-paper [in B&W], spray mounted these printouts uncut onto sheets of foamcore [just to make them rigid & to keep them opaque] and rigged them on c-stands in my backyard...same method as those classic films from the 50's :-)

    Glad you liked it!!

When a bug would crawl off the building & into the sky, I cut the shot at that frame...

  • Very nice to see it works... Now if I have trouble selling the script to someone like Full Moon or Troma I guess I know what to do to make it myself hahaha thanks man

  • good luck!

That's exactly what I am planning to do..script in hand [same title as above, registered with the WGA]..but I'd rather produce it myself & have more control!

Especially with something that would be under a quarter Mil..why not have fun and not deal with any whacko producers..I've had my fill of them in the past.

  • Incredible!! Very well done. Congrats!!

  • good job !

  • cool...

    giant Higurashi XD

  • LOL!!! Great job!!!!

  • THANKS!!

  • Your very welcome. You really hit the mark with your parody. Very impressive!

  • lol

  • Spot on, guys! Good job! It's exactly like the monster movies I saw when I was a kid!

  • Thanks Wyatt!!!

Thats what I strived to do.. :-)

  • OK...I wasn't going to plug this, but go to my page and watch "War of the Planets". It is a promo for our local film festival, and although it's a little more serious than "Cicadas", it's a direct riff on "War of the Worlds" and other 1950's movies.

We tackled the material the same way - playing it straight, because the 1950's style is ALREADY melodramatic and unintentionally funny when seen today.

By the way, I always thought cicadas were some SCARY-ASS bugs...

  • Very nice Wyatt! LOVE the death rays that turn men into skeletons! Nice dolly push-ins.

I had the pleasure to shoot sevral times in your St. Louis area..for a couple of Sci-Fi Channel features and I shot the picture APOCALYPSE AND THE BEAUTY QUEEN in your area back in '05..great local crews!

  • The sound they would produce would cause deafness and shatter glass.:) Lol

  • Fantastic! That looked every bit as effective as "The Beginning Of The End"

    Loved it.

    5 stars

  • Thanks TomatoeAssassin!

BEGINING OF THE END was the inspiration for this short!!!

  • "more powerful than a thousand hydrogen bombs!" awesome, great trailer!! I recognize the soundtrack from the "lost skeleton of cadavra"; don't know where it originally came from... anyhow, wouldn't it be great if this could be adapted into a full-length feature film? :)

  • The feature script is written, needs some polishing, but we now need to raise a quarter mill or so....any takers? :-)

PS, thanks for the VERY kind words 'bushidocamp'!!

  • Why do you need a quarter million? You don't need anything these days. I am a news photographer and I can personally say if the actors will work for food you could start shooting today.

  • You have to cook and eat them before they get too BIG!

  • Truly horrific, scared the shit out of me !

How does it end, will the human race prevail?

Will these evil alien overlords enslave us all?

Are we destined to toil underground for 17 years?

We must all unite to rid our planet of this cosmic peril !!!!!

  • Such a realistic look at summer in Tennessee!

(I'm not kidding, "jar flies" as we like to call them are PLENTIFUL down here during summer and they're HUGE. Love the spoof though!)

  • THANKS Titan752!

    You are too kind! :-)

This is exactley what I was striving to do!

Someday I'd love to 'flesh-out' this storyline to feature length...

  • Sheer Perfection! Imaginative, humorous tribute to the 1950's sci-fi thrillers! This could have been an actual sequel to the "Beginning of the End" movie with the giant locusts! This is an incredibly well-done homage to the type of sci-fi I remember watching on Saturday afternoon TV matinees!!! Great Job!!!

  • I love the giant bug movies and this was done to perfection. I haven't be to a theater in years, but if this were a real movie, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Very well done!

  • Hi RATT1959,

    You are too kind! :-)

    Thanks for the great comment!

If I ever get the opportunity to shoot this as a full length feature film, You and Yours will certainly receive free front row tickets from me!

  • Brilliant execution and great performances. The German Scientist rekindles my faith in mankind's ability to save us from all things atomically mutated. Now, if science can protect us from clowns, I'll be able to sleep nights.

  • Thanks Director777, you are too kind!

Of course the scientist had to be German...during the cold war we brought them over...hence my choice here [plus there was a great German scientists on an old Bugs Bunny cartoon!] Mutants are always cool!

  • Someone page Roger Corman!! Spot-on parody! This looks better than anything Hollywood will be giving us this summer!

  • I helped. just placing cicadas, and acted, and supplied a scream. :D But everything else was my uncle, he's the BESTEST~ecd2012 from NomiSiouxzette's.

  • Ooohhh thats awesome. lol and kinda funny in a horrific way. Did u really make this Liz??? its awesome

  • I loved making this. It won first in a film contest, which was obvious it should! -Lizzy
