@rosieaedo - Went bankrupt in 1991, partly as a result of long-standing debt, the purchase of National Airlines in 1980 (more debt), and a down-turn in passengers following the Lockerbie bomb tragedy...
the operative word here- DL pulled the plug! After agreeing to operate the LAD routes and have Pan Am stay in South America- they lied and never even published a schedule. Both my husband and I were unemployed, uninsured from one day to the next. many flight crew and ground personnel had breakdowns, committed suicide. The irony is that all these years later, the Pan Am family of employess are still so close knit and loyal....we never were the bad guys or the cause of the problem
@CdaCass I am so so sorry to hear about the suicides. Breaks my heart. Glad you all are ok and that the Pan Am family has stayed close. I'm a former passenger and miss you all very much. Pan Am will always be my airline.
@cirvine11 thank you for the nice remarks. We all loolk forward to the ABC show this fall-even though it sounds like a chick-flick, the memories will be great
I'm a collector of 16mm and 35mm films, too and I own Pan Am films as well. Maybe we can exchange some titles ? My email-address is giorgio.di.brema(at)libero.it Please contact me ! Thank you.
@TickleMeSillyXx - After many years of growing debt, they began to sell off assets (planes/routes/terminals) to stay solvent -- until there was virtually nothing left to sell. The debt was too massive and despite a deal to sell the remainder to Delta -they ceased operations forever on December 4th 1991 when Delta pulled the plug. By that stage it was just a shell of the great airline it once was. Very sad.

Wow! This indeed brings back memories. This commercial makes it clear that you had to have money to travel back then. All those shopping bags, the clothes, the places she travelled to...
Ok - I'll take a stab too. According to Pan Am's Clipper Magazine route map May 1971, Miss Fulton's itinerary would have been: 1. Sydney to Bali. 2. Bali to Hong Kong, 3. Hong Kong to Tokyo, 4. Tokyo to Bangkok (via Hong Kong), 5. Bangkok to London via Hong Kong-Tokyo-Los Angeles, 6. London to Rome via Paris.
But from the Panamac computer it clearly shows one of her flights as PA 119, Feb. 17, from Beirut to Rome, so she probably went Bangkok to London via Calcutta/Karachi/Beirut/Rome/Paris!
Yes I did see the Panamac computer. For a second I thought the traffic cop with gloves may have been Istanbul - but you are correct - Beirut. (Although I was not born until 1973, I know my mother - who flew with Pan Am almost 30 years until 1991) must have done some routes like the ones this gal flew. Her favorite was the SP of course with the wide galley. I have showed her your videos and she cries and says you have to let go...until the reunion in Central Park each year or so. Godspeed.
this airline is legend ,
now we have only air france with this 70s special vibes

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we love to fly around the world?
(2) Why do we enjoy to explore the world and fly to different countries?
(3) Why does airline TV commercial make us feel relaxing and happy?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

America throws away its History as well as its plastic bottles and used razor blades. Expendable. Sad but accurate.

ok - I'll take a stab at this - it looks like the following cities:
DPS-Bali
HKG-Hong Kong (with a rickshaw)
BKK-Bangkok (on the river)
HND - Tokyo (looks like Haneda airport)
another flash into Thailand with the dancers and monks
then to London
A very cool commercial!

this video begins in Sydney. From there the traveler goes to Denpasar, a stop on Pan Am's Sydney - Hong Kong route.
